It was awesome!  Can't wait to meet up with some more!

I have spent the last few sessions focusing on width, shallowing and compression. Ensuring a wide takeaway with a closed club face, getting shallow approaching impact and compressing the ball as much as possible.

My wedges and short irons feel as good as ever - really enjoying my practice recently.

The Mizuno ST-G's are also doing their thing!

Haven’t had much time to practice recently, but have been making a few strokes with the putter every time I walk by it.

Was able to spend a bit of time with the Pressure Putt trainer this evening and felt good with the putter!

Now that I have more play time with the Vice irons under my belt, I decided to start checking my carry distance, swing speed, spin rates and such. Not that I didn’t know but rather fine tune the data and ingrain it into my memory bank.
I used the Mevo and the Callaway Chrome Soft Rapsodo balls in the sim bay. Took 20 swings with a club and threw out any weird ones.
Only got through a few clubs today. 60*, 56*, 50* and PW. Plenty of swings were made.
House work got in the way of doing more and I didn’t want to over do it. I’m playing tomorrow morning. I vacuumed, winterized, and covered the pool for the season, fixed a leaning fence post, and went food shopping.

I hope to get a few more clubs done after golf tomorrow. I got a big tournament toward the end of the month. Got to fine tune those skills.

Day 269 (12 Oct 24) - Opted to sneak in a quick nine on my way home at a course near where the band I’m in rehearses (it’s a Sat morning rehearsal so the afternoon is open).  Decided to focus on the mid-irons on all shots except tee and greenside wedge play.  Was a good challenge as I knew that I would be giving up, for the most part, GIR.  It was a great exercise on staying in the pre-shot routine, having a specific target point and trusting the club chosen.   Green side wedge play was amazing as I had 5 pitches where I was than 10’ for par (over a year in play and I’m still getting solid bite from the Indi wedges).  Managed a solid 41 (4 pars, 5 bogies and no sixes).

I only had time for some backyard wedge practice today.  I was also pretty stiff from working so i only did 1/2 swing 45 yard shots.  I did about 60 of them and had an ok % hit the green.  It wasnt my best practice batch of shots but by then end i had loosened up and felt like i had some control.

Golf is on the agenda for tomorrow!

It has been a month or two since I’ve actually practiced due to my golf clubs ranged being renovated, but I went to a range across town and worked on some things. It was so good to just have a large bucket and relax. I was able to work on ball position and alignment which have really suffered lately. I also worked on a better release, I was really hitting the ball solid. It was good tournament prep for one I having coming up in a couple weeks. I’m hoping to get a few more in before it happens.

Took the Rapsodo out to the driveway to hit some balls for a bit today.  Hit the ball ok for the most part, struggled with the U505 today…

Took advantage the day off (after completing the tasks SWMBO had for me) and spent some time with the Rapsodo.

Swing was not working today…struggled across the board.  Inconsistent contact, shape and distance.

Also spent a good amount of time putting.

I've been putting with one arm lately at home; right, then left. Practicing this on my putting mat at one foot intervals up to six feet. The right arm is more consistent than the left; I am right handed and right eye dominant, so that makes sense. After doing this routine I then go back to using both arms and my percentage of putts made has increased.

Day 271 (14 Oct 24) - Worked with the 58 today (the least used wedge in bag) in making those tight little pitches from 5 - 10 yards out to 25 or so. Started with a putter swing (no flexing of wrists) to give that easy up and down pitch.  Moved to longer shots with minimal wrist action.  Solid session.

Went to the simulator last night at my local PGA Tour Superstore to get a final tune-up on the swing before my big golf trip this week. We’re headed down to the Pinehurst area on Thursday, so I thought it was only fitting to play No. 2 on the sim.

I realized when picking the course that the only option for the tees were the US Open ones 😅 so I played from nearly 7600 yards. Lots of driver-3w combos on Par 4s. Had pins on medium difficulty and putts on auto-pro level.

Ended up shooting 85 (+15) which I would take every day of the week and twice on Sunday. Was striking the ball nicely and had some good ups and downs from tricky spots. Hopefully the good ball striking can continue this weekend!

Long story or maybe boring, I had back surgery in June. The First time I hit balls a few weeks ago wasn't all that great and didn't feel right. the club felt like it weighed 10 lbs. Today was SOOOO much better and felt waaaaayyyyy better. The one of many things I noticed was my swing speed is quit a bit slower which I expected. My 7 iron was always mid 90's 94-97 MPH. Today it was high 80's,  87-89 mph. BUT the cool thing I was only loosing 10 yards of distance. Maybe that's the correct math, I don't know. So now I am thinking if I can keep this speed which felt in control, comfortable and I could feel the club better.

My question, If I get re-fit for at least shafts would or could I gain that distance back? I'm thinking better contact and in control.

Am I over thinking this or is this ongoing battle with golf?

I’d say this the is ongoing battle with golf you haven’t lost much speed so my guess as recovery continues you will gain it back.   Shafts could help you get some distance but probably not.

I think you are overthinking.

Practiced putting:  going through some of the drills that Phil Kenyon did in his 5 day challenge.   I feel like my putting skills are improving.   When I played this past weekend I hit a bunch of straight 8 footers on the practice green and everything was rolling dead center so face at impact is solid.  Been implementing the read approach described in the Golf Science Lab video with the Tour Read creator and it seems to,have helped my reads.   Need to match up read and speed to,help with the breaking 6-10’ putts.  Also need to get better on speed with the over 20’ breaking putts.

Short game:  this aspect of my game has been on a positive trend after working on the Dan Grieve system.  Since my daughter’s room is empty I hit some foam balls across the room.  Hit a bunch of shots that would have less than 10 yard landing spots.  Have a tendency to thin these and hit them too far.

Example, as i sit here typing this, the area behind my armpits feel like someone is squeezing there.

Got some 60 yard to a few feet practice in today.  Working on Dan Grieve 3 releases again.  It pretty magical around the green. Like I’ve mentioned, I’ve been doing this type of thing since before I found Dan, but I thought I was doing it all wrong… WRONG.

I do have like a 2.5 release that I really like to use that isn’t quite a flop but stops dead like one. Highly recommend giving him a follow on the gram.

Nice. I've been doing Phil Kenyon's drills in the garage the past few days. Didn't have time on Sunday morning to do any putting practice drills before playing, but did a little afterwards. Hoping to test the changes tomorrow if I manage to get on a course.

The daughter's room comment made me laugh as it triggered a childhood memory. I used to practice chipping and delicate flop shots in my bedroom. No foam balls though. I learned to be very adept with those delicate flop shots over my bed into a towel-lined bin!lol. Funnily enough as a teen I had a fantastic short game that saved many rounds. Not sure my wife would be happy with me trying to reignite that practice method! Foam balls in the garage will have to suffice...
