Best at home indoor putting solution ?

Looking into what could be the best option for an indoor putting solution for practise over the U.K winter months. I have seen the MGS putting matt review (sadly Birdie Ball are not stocked anywhere I can find in the U.K) and wondering in any of the at home systems that now measure some data are worthwhile and any good. Blast Motion is one I have seen being pushed recently receiving ad's while online for this with Putt Out package, have also seen EXPUTT RG but not seen anything much about this so interested if any users here and what people can recommend as good options. Length wise I can get away with 16foot max i'm going to say

I guess it depends on what you want to work on.   For distance control,  I'd 100% say ExPutt.  The original ExPutt was the reviewed by the forum in 2020 and in my opinion the features in the RG are a great upgrade.   I still use mine and think it is fabulous and it provides some of the same information that a Blast motion type device provides.  If you want to work on your stroke,  you can buy tools like blast motion or you can just use things like gates or obstacles to work on correcting flaws.

First question you need to answer is how long and how wide.

length like I said got 16ft to work with minimum id say would be 12ft. Width minimum 3ft can probably go up to 6ft but 4 would be great.

thanks for that info. With the ExPutt do the balls have to hit the back bumper to register as being such a small Matt if you wanted to work on something with a high break I’d imagine you’d be hitting the ball off the Matt at the side or is it just limited to say a 4ft break putt max at certain distance so it has to hit the bumper.

No, they don't have to hit the back padding;  the camera reads the putter path and the ball launch prior to it hitting the padding.   I don't know exactly how it works on the new model,  but you aren't going to need to hit it off the mat to do any putt even breaking putts.

Great thanks for the clarification, definitely one for me to look more into then!

You haven’t seen some of the pin locations on the courses by me, putting almost 90degree to the hole at times to allow for the break but it probably wasn’t designed for something with a break quite like that.

While the ball may break 4 feet, you are still essentially putting on a straight line with your alignment being 90 degrees left or right of the hole.     

Which is why I asked in my first post what skills you wanted to work on.  If it is reading huge breaking putts,  you probably can't do that indoors.  ExPutt is really great for leaning speed control and the new version does allow you to practice uphill, downhill, and breaking putts.

I think I get it now. 

You putt straight and change the line using the software/screen to allow for the breaks etc. 

Will jump on YouTube and see if I can find some good reviews of the new version etc.

Big fan of da Big Moss putting green. Mine's 6x10, but they make them in a bunch of sizes.

You should email them and ask if they’d ship to the UK.  Small family owned business that’s very responsive.  Might be cost prohibitive, but if you offered to pay for shipping, you never know what might happen. Nothing to lose by asking. Since they are direct to consumer they ship everything themselves anyway.

I had a 13’ WellPutt, and I was very happy with it. I used it for several months and it helped my alignment and pace a lot. I sold it only because it served its purpose and I didn’t need it anymore.

I’m a big believer in there’s no substitute for putting outdoors on grass as putting is at least three skills, indoor mats only test one or two - and constantly varying lengths, breaks, grain are essential to practice putting for me. Even when I practice outdoors, I often use 1 ball, never more than 2 balls - since you only get one chance in play. Dropping 3 or more balls in one location and putting is pointless for me. YMMV

Sadly the U.K has such low allowances when it comes to customs that when all is said and done a $350 item direct from the U.S will be around $550+

It used to be feasible but since our currency has s*** the bed its more or less £1=$1 now where back in the day it was £1=$2.

Having a look at reviews and videos definitely have been tempted and going to pull the trigger on the EXPUTT RG but could probably do with a matt as well so going to look not the Big Moss as have already researched the well putt and putout matts so seeing if anything trumps them that I can get my hands on.
