mpatrickriley
We're still multiple weeks away from opening day here in the Upper Peninsula, but I have established my putter hierarchy going into the season: Projected putter depth chart: Starter: Odyssey 2Ball Ten, double bend, 34", stock SuperStroke grip Backup: Edel EAS 4.0, 34", Garsen G-Pro Edge grip Break glass in emergency: Evnroll ER11v MidLock, 40" But that raised the question in my mind: what does you putter setup look like normally? It seems to me there are three possibilities: Monogamy: you have a single putter to which you are committed. I would include in this category serial monogamy: you have a single putter at a time, retain it for multiple seasons, only changing if you (for instance) get fitted for a new putter. Hierarchy: you have a main putter, but there is another (or a couple others) on standby if that one goes awry. Rotation: you have a bunch of putters, and you choose one for the day based on course conditions, weather, color scheme, reading tea leaves, etc. So throwing the question to you all: what's the state of your putter(s)? skraeling
With the price of clubs now… monogamy. That said it’s been a fruitful relationship. I did have a very old odyssey white hot that I referred to as white hot crap. Pretty sure it’s the worst insert putter I’ve ever owned. cnosil
I like to try putters, any putter can be replaced at any given time. I don’t regularly rotate as described but I also don’t have a specific hierarchy. A putter could go in the bag just because I want to hit it again, because the current one isn’t performing well, or because I saw something I liked and purchased. I don’t really get too attached to any putter so it could be sold off to purchase something different. For example, I want to play/experiment with putter shafts. Is it easier to replace the shaft or the whole putter. If the shaft provides no benefit, probably easier to flip the entire putter. Kenny B
I only have one putter that I use; fitted by Ping. I have no reason to change, and really no desire to try any other putter; sure I look at them in stores, maybe even rolling a few balls but they all fee strange to me. If I get fitted for a new putter, it will be because something happened to mine and can't be repaired or I made a life-altering decision and changed to Kuchar's right arm lock technique. GolfSpy_BEN
I tend to pick a putter and stick with it. I played a Scotty Cameron California Monterrey from 2009 until December of last year. Before that, it was a used Scotty Newport from 2004-2009 and a Odyssey rossie that I inherited as a teenager and played from 1995 until I bought that first Scotty. This past winter I tried out an Evnroll ER7v and I liked it, so that is currently in the bag. Having played blades the past 20 years, there has been a little bit of a learning curve thus far, but I am pleased with its overall performance. While I tend to be fairly monogamous about my putters, I did sign up for the LAB golf test, as their putters are so radically different from what I am used to, I would welcome the opportunity to compare and contrast how they might affect my game. jbern, GolfSpy SAM, Chad Parmer and 2 others 5 Quote WITB: D: GT-2 10° w/ GD Tour AD-UB 6s 3W: GT-3 15 Tensei Black 75 X 3h: G430 18° Tour 2.0/Stiff 7W: 21° Rogue ST Max LinQ 7X 4i: Pro 225 with Project X io 6.0 6i-PW: Pro 225 with Recoil 110 f4 50,54° & 58°: SM-10 P: Link.1 Ball: Pro Plus Drip Bag: Ghost MGS Anyday 14 way "And so, we beat on, boats against the current, borne ceaselessly into the past." - Fitzgerald ” The woods are lovely, dark and deep, But I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep, And miles to go before I sleep.” - Frost "That you are here—that life exists and identity, That the powerful play goes on, and you may contribute a verse." - Whitman
TSauer
I have a decent collection of putters, I would say I'm somewhere between hierarchy and monogamy. My primary/current gamer is a Newport 2 with a P2 grip, but its' spot is heavily contended for by an Evnroll ER2. I am usually switching back and forth between the two, the gravity grip on the Evnroll is such a great combo which makes it hard to beat. Heck, sometimes I'll even throw my 2019 Spider just because I miss putting with it. I may have a problem.. richk9holes
Hierarchy but I'm flirting with the rotation concept. I've always been this way. Starter set had a simple blade with no targeting and I used it plenty, but always also gamed my dad's hand me down Titleist dead center. Got a Ping sigma g anser for Christmas one year and liked it but not the grip, so I spent 2 years going back to the dead center. It's now traded away along with a 64° vokey for a sm8 vokey. Got a stroke lab one and played it 2 seasons, but also picked up a center shaft CG Huntington beach soft #11 to try CS. Both were traded for my current Sik DW 2.0. Where I sit now 1)Sik DW 2.0 2)Hogan Sovereign I got for $25 to mess with 3)Ping iN Wack E that sits on a mount by the putting mat in case I don't want to go in my car trunk. Any of these could come out with me any given day. Chad Parmer
7 hours ago, GolfSpy MPR said: We're still multiple weeks away from opening day here in the Upper Peninsula, but I have established my putter hierarchy going into the season: Projected putter depth chart: Starter: Odyssey 2Ball Ten, double bend, 34", stock SuperStroke grip Backup: Edel EAS 4.0, 34", Garsen G-Pro Edge grip Break glass in emergency: Evnroll ER11v MidLock, 40" But that raised the question in my mind: what does you putter setup look like normally? It seems to me there are three possibilities: Monogamy: you have a single putter to which you are committed. I would include in this category serial monogamy: you have a single putter at a time, retain it for multiple seasons, only changing if you (for instance) get fitted for a new putter. Hierarchy: you have a main putter, but there is another (or a couple others) on standby if that one goes awry. Rotation: you have a bunch of putters, and you choose one for the day based on course conditions, weather, color scheme, reading tea leaves, etc. So throwing the question to you all: what's the state of your putter(s)? I have a main squeeze putter. 34” Cleveland Huntington Beach Soft #4 blade. But I have a mistress putter as well. Sometimes if my #1 ain’t rolling right, I will bust out the old school Maltby Blade. Great putter as well, just noisy as heck I will try other putters, but always a blade. Haven’t been sold on a mallet yet. See a lot of pros using them, just looks bulky standing over it. IMO. Whatever works for YOU!! Lol. Keep em straight!️ Edited April 24, 2023 by Chad Parmer IndyBonzo and GolfSpy SAM 2 Quote 28 years coaching. From 1st graders to college athletes! Clemo
Going to be running the Scotty Cameron Phantom X7 for the foreseeable future. There is something about my old beaten up Studio design that keeps calling me back however , its meant to be not forgiving and I shouldn't be able to putt well with it but in my time of need and I pull it off the shelf its works wonders! Caddie1966
I’m momgamous with putters.I’ve owned 4 putters in 50+ years of playing. All are still in the family. Ping Anser which I bought new in 1968 for $20. I still have and it is still usable with the original ping man grip. Odyssey Rosie 2. 1st mallet purchased in 1998. Used for 11 years. Grandson uses it now with a kid size shaft. Ping Anser from 2010. Strong arc blade. Used for 5 years and it stays in my office for me to practice my stroke indoors. Odyssey 7 first 34 inch purchased 2015 and still use it. It needs to have a new grip or get a grip wrap soon.
