Reviews From A Regular Guy: 2022 Sqairz Speed

Dated I know, but here's my thoughts on the Sqairz Speed if you're interested.

New for 2022

Sqairz Speed White & Navy

If you’ve been around golf for the last couple of years it would have been hard to miss the buzz surrounding Sqairz, the odd square toed shoe that says it can make you swing faster, as well as the testimonials of those who claim it works and those that don’t. But there is another aspect of these shoes that goes overlooked in my opinion, and that is stability. As a “seasoned veteran” of this grand old game that aspect of the shoes is what I was most interested in. And wow, do they deliver. If you want to know about swinging faster, read on…

The Speed model has been on the shelves for a few months now, but this new release brings a higher level of contrast than the other options in the lineup with clean navy blue lines, a little gray accent, and a touch of red with the spikes on the bottom. The shoe laces are Sta-Put laces (a Sqairz invention) that have silicone squares the length of the lace to ensure that they don’t slip while you’re bombing drives. The insole of the shoe is comfortable and has a nice heel cup to keep you centered in the shoe, however they are removable and can be replaced by orthotic insoles if needed. Straight out of the box it’s apparent this is a very nice shoe.

Comfort and Stability

My preference is to walk the course and to that end I had been wearing a cross-trainer style golf shoe that was very light and easy to walk in, but wasn’t the most stable. I couldn’t come to a full finish with my weight on the left foot and my right foot on it’s toe without becoming so unstable I’d have to take a step to regain balance. Holding my finish like that, forget it. Sidehill and downhill lies are never fun to begin with but couple that with balance instability and good shots become much more difficult in an already difficult game. So I was very curious to see if these shoes lived up to the title of “most stable shoe in golf”.

Warming up on the range the shoes were indeed very stable. All the way through the swing I had no problem maintaining balance and completing the through swing to a full finish and holding it there. I was very surprised at this since I hadn’t been able to do that for the last two years.

I put in a full 18 holes in the afternoon heat that day just to give them a real run-through, and once again they did not disappoint. They weren’t like walking on a cloud, so if that’s what you’re after these probably aren’t for you. Despite them being a little heavier and firmer in the outsole I didn’t notice it fatiguing me any more than normal, and there were no aching feet after the round as is usually the case (to some extent) with my old golf shoes. All in all an A+ as far as I’m concerned.

But Did They Make You Swing Faster?

Well, you’ve stuck with me for this long so I’ll give you the answer: YES!

I gained 5mph clubhead speed on the driver, and I do think it was the shoes. These shoes are so stable that they allow me to go after the driver a little harder and still maintain control. However, I don’t think that will be the same for everyone. If you don’t suffer from balance issues you may not see any increase in speed at all. Which is why I believe there are varied results as to the effectiveness of the shoes at increasing swing speed. But if you’re in the market for new kicks for the course give the Sqairz Speed some consideration. I’m certainly glad I did.

These are the Squairz shoes that I currently wear -- https://thegolfwire.com/sqairz-country-sole-golf-shoe/

I wore these Squairz shoes for 5 of my 7 rounds in and on the way to Myrtle Beach over the last nine days, and had worn them for two rounds of golf prior to that trip.  It took a few rounds for them to get broken-in enough that they were no longer stiff and somewhat uncomfortable, but once they got broken-in, they were not only very comfortable for sure!  I absolutely agree that these shoes provide the greatest stability of any golf shoes that I have worn in my 38 years of playing golf.  I don't know about greater swing/clubhead speed, but I did hit three 295+ yard drives while wearing them in my last two rounds on the Myrtle Beach trip (these drives were all somewhat to greatly wind-aided).  I also shot 84 and 80 those two rounds, which is pretty good for an "old fart" with a 15.5 handicap index.

EDIT: Following those two scores, my handicap is down to an even 15.0

I love those, they're the pair I wanted, but they didn't have them in my size.😎
