Cheapest Durable ball for simulator league

TG8

Recommended Posts

I am going to have some league nights in my garage this winter and dont want to let all my prov1 balls get scuffed and used up quick.  Also less chance of tearing screen.

can anyone tell me a decently cheap and durable ball they can use during league nigbts?

also will recommend them using their own game ball.

Has anyone tried using quality ping pong balls? I watched a video sometime back that said they were heavy enough to generate speed and flight trajectory matching a golf ball on the launch monitor software, but wouldn't damage the screen as much.

Just a thought... I have not tried it myself.

My first inclination was actually the Maxfli Tour line since they'll "perform" similarly to ProV1s, but this recommendation made me wonder: would there be a significant simulator difference in urethane vs ionomer? I have seen the videos that show where an ionomer ball launches a lot higher, especially with wedges, but I'm not sure how that would affect the screen itself, if at all. Maybe the lower spin rates would be helpful for screen longevity?

Could always use the pro v's you find on the course but don't want to game.

Like Greg mentioned the Maxfli tour's are a great ball at a good price.

You could also go Costco balls if you just want a cheap urethane ball.

Last option would be to stick with your gamer ball, but buy some 5A mint condition when you can find a deal.  Just make sure you stick with recycled and stay far far away from refinished or refurbished.

The issue with used balls is the smallest scuff can rub/spin on the screen and wear through it quick.

Just an fyi

Any markings or dirt on a ball will transfer to your screen. These are hard to clean off. Obviously any scuffs will also damage the screen. Kind of acts like sandpaper.
I would recommend only using new balls. Pick up some cheaper 2 piece balls. Since it’s your garage you can have everyone use the same balls. This eliminates stains and damage to your screen.

I walked into a simulator area at a club. This guy almost got the crap beat out of him. Evidently he went into a bay and put nice fresh black lines on his balls. Then proceeded to hit them into the screen. Moments later the screen had black lines all over it. The shouting match was getting pretty heated and I decided the outside range would be a more calming area to practice.

If you want something with a urethane cover that is cheap enough to cycle out often, the Kirkland Performance+ ball is likely your best bet (they are on the higher side of the spin spectrum, but I’d take these any day over a 2-piece ionomer offering).

Im leaning towards some 2 piece wilson chaos balls. Come in 2 dozens boxes and actually feel pretty good off the face.

I would love to try the Maxfli Tour line (can only find online) to compare to the PRov1 and TP5's I normally use.  I did try go with a budget ball previously, but they were missing 2000 backspin on approach shots as compared to prov1 and tp5.

I have a tray that will hold like 30 balls, and I rotate them during a round (will hit till tray is empty then refill).  I've had some balls last months this way.  And really don't notice the price, as I don't lose them in the bush like outside, lol.

Before every round I inspect every ball, even the smallest scratch or mark, I turf it.  Will make your screen last longer.  If you cheap on balls or use them too long it will wear out your screen super fast.  I think its cheaper to replace balls more often, than your screen.
