I've tried the Jumbo Max but didn't see any difference. I guess I must be missing something. Does it help with elbow issues?

I don't know that it necessarily helps elbow issues, but less tension in the hands should in turn create less tension in the arms all together during a swing.

I wonder if the grips can be blown on with an air compressor? I've tried them and was MEH, but I wonder if I didn't give them enough time?

I could play golf every day and learn something new each time.

I'm sure we will get some answers this evening.

My biggest question is on the wedges and still having the touch/feel that I currently do with them.  It's one of the strongest parts of my game and I love having the creativity and ability to put the ball close around the green.  Don't want to lose that with larger grips.

Wedges are my strong point as well. I have been horrible this year on approach but my wedges usually end up saving my arse. My approach issues are mostly just missing the green and long over the green. I have started to try missing short because of it.

@Josh Parker I think what I am going to do is buy some oversized grips and blow them on with my compressor to see if I notice a difference over my mid-sized grips. I was just on the Star Grip website and they don't carry oversized as far as I could tell. I think the lamkins will blow on pretty easily as I have used them in the past with the compressor, just not oversized. JumboMax has me in an extra small so maybe I'll be able to see a difference trying $7 dollar grips over the $16 dollar ones that I've tried in the past.

I could play golf every day and learn something new each time.

There are a ton of different ones that come in jumbo.  I have a jumbo currently on my GT3 and have liked the results so far.

Question for those that have used these for a while.

What is your typical shot shape?

Did it change the shot shape after using them?

I have really been considering making a switch to these as I have some hand issues as well as elbow issues at times.  I also, for years, was a more palm grip than fingertip so the thought of the larger grip would fall into line with that.  I did the online fitting and depending on the answers, fall into a XS or S.

Here are my conerns:

1.  My natural shot shape is typically a fade, will this produce a larger fade/slice?

2.  Weight issues.... depending on the type of grip, the XS or even S are heavier than my current grips by 10g or if I go with the lightweight, is 15g or more less.  I am a feel player and having the ability to feel the head in the swing is a must.

I currently have a jumbo on my driver and have liked the results so far for shot shape.

Thoughts from you pros?

I switched from midsized grips to the Zen lite XS. My normal shot shape is pretty straight and can vary from a draw to a fade with a fade being what I do when swinging my best. I will point out my fade is more of a start online and fall right and not a pull fade. I didn't really know a difference in direction, still some days of both. Also still able to work the ball both ways the same as before. Now I can't do that part as consistently as I once could but no difference with the grip change. I do think my distances have gone up some but I am not certain I can say it's the grips as I have been working my swing some and since I have only been getting back into golf the last 2 years it could just be me getting stronger again since I am actually practicing.

A main reason I started thinking about these grips was since getting back into golf I would get occasional pain especially after longer practice sessions or when doing so multiple days in a row. Since making the switch this a pretty much gone away. I also notice less fatigue in the hands as well as spots that I would get worn from the grip in those longer sessions has gone away as well.

Yes they can, for the Zen lite or ultra lite with the foam core I had to do some experimenting and found the cloth athletic tape works well as it provides enough friction to the foam. The initial start of getting it on is harder but once enough is on for the air to expand the grip it goes on just fine. On the tour they work about the same as others as they are rubber on the inside. They just take a little more PSI to expand the grip since thicker.

Everyone is different but I have had zero negative effect on my short game. While I am not super sensitive to swing weight but I consider myself a feel player in this aspect especially as I don't use any conscious length of swing but more tempo and grip pressure. If anything the bigger grip makes gripping lighter easier and more natural and helps but again would not say I have had a noticeable improvement in performance but certainly not any negatives from it.

@Erin B & @Josh Parker

Regarding air install, I used masking tape and air with my STR8 Ultralite grips. Worked ok, but after about 5 simulator sessions and 10 rounds, they started to warp and slip off slightly. I think it would be a more than adequate way to test the grips!

Regarding shot shape, my shot shape before JMX grips was a slight draw and is still a slight draw, but I have more shots that are straight.

Regarding pain issues, I have not had any since getting the grips, but I definitely notice less grip pressure required. I went from a 8 out of 10 to a 5 to 6 out of 10 grip pressure.

I have not put these grips on my irons or wedges YET. I will once my existing grips get worn a little bit. From the consensus on this thread, putting them on wedges has been a win for people!

Good luck and let us know how it goes for you!

Thank you! This is great information. In my swing analysis my hands are fast. I’m wondering if bigger grips might help that. I’m gonna get some oversized and start checking this out, I especially fast in the scoring irons.

I've been waiting to give them a try on wedges too. My short game is pretty trash right now, so I don't think there's any real risk of giving them a try. Ha ha.

I've not tried compressed air installation, but want to give it a try soon. I'd love to see someone using it on JMX grips.

I have STR8 wrap and tour on my woods and hybrid. Med wraps on driver and 3W. XS wrap and Tour on 7W & hybrid.

I have a couple of XS STR8 Tour grips waiting for install on an iron and wedge. When the P770s turn up, I'm going to put them on an old P790 iron and a spare 56* wedge and see how they work for me.

Thanks!  I have been eyeballing these for a while and reading thru a bunch and watching some videos.  I have a natural fade and I don't want to make it worse but have also seen that that's not necessarily the case with the oversized grips.  Hearing from several that it hasn't changed is great news.

Thank you! This is great information. In my swing analysis my hands are fast. I’m wondering if bigger grips might help that. I’m gonna get some oversized and start checking this out, I especially fast in the scoring irons.

If you are a typical draw guy, I don't think you will have an issue with the bigger grips at all.  Jumbo/oversized

I've been waiting to give them a try on wedges too. My short game is pretty trash right now, so I don't think there's any real risk of giving them a try. Ha ha.

I've not tried compressed air installation, but want to give it a try soon. I'd love to see someone using it on JMX grips.

I bought an extra 58 sm9 because they were on sale and our sand traps are ugly.  I have been rotating them in the bag and figure its a good one to test them out on.

I got the JMX so I'll let you know how it goes.

I have had an easier learning curve with JumboMax STR8's on my full swing/power clubs.

On partial/short game shots, the learning curve is not as easy for me because of all the choke-down variations and other creativity factors.  Like before, I know that I must spend much more practice time getting used to performing short game shots with STR8's.

I am also working on another idea - I reduced the clubs in my bag to 7.

Driver, 7 wood, #6 hybrid, Irons #8, P and 54* and Putter.  For my above comments on partial/short game shots, I will primarily use my 54* Wedge and an occasional Pitching Wedge.

Except for the putter, I have JMX STR8's on the other 6 clubs.  Not only is it easier to get clubs in and out of the bag, but it will require less mastery time on the practice tee.  I was using only 12 clubs before, but going down to 7 has some advantages,

If I can manage to shoot the same scores as I did with 12 clubs, I will be pleased. I got this idea after playing in a 3 Clubs and a Putter event.

After retiring from the PGA of America, I did some demo days and club fitting for various OEMs.

Very interesting!  I don't know that I could do it...  I use just about every club in the bag during my round.  I think the only club I don't necessarily use is my hybrid and I only have it in there for hitting longer shots out of the rough or if I have to put a ball up in the air quickly.

I couldn't wait another 3 or 4 days for the two grips to show up and found a place an hour away that had the lites. I put one on my driver and one on the 58*

Just finished my round and must say..... I'm impressed. My driver was high, straight and long!  I didn't have to grip and rip. Smooth swing and I was seeing 15yds or more added distance.

For the 58* I was pleasantly surprised that the feel was still there and I was able to finesse my shots like I normally do. I mag be making a switch with the rest of the irons very soon. Have 2 more rounds planned this week to really test out.

I used their sizing chart and tried to order the Str8 but it was back ordered. Ended up going with the ultralight (Medium). Do I need to be concerned about the swing weight?

New update.  I received my 2 Zenlite grips today and put one on my 5w and one on my PW.  I got size small on these and I have to say, I really like them.  I did use air to put them on but picked 2 clubs that I use alot to really dig in and see what I think.

The 5w was as easy as the driver to hit and I really feel like I don't even have to swing really.  It has taken the feeling of over gripping out of the equation.  I also noticed this on the PW.  My PW was on fire today and had some great shots.  Nice high baby draws and also the ability to hit a small fade.

I think I will be ordering for the rest of the set.

@Coulter - You had mentioned wanting to try these in our PXG thread but didn't want to flood that one with grip things.

Thank you sir! I thought the same thing. I’m guessing this adds control for most is that right?

I have a cobra rad speed driver, cobra fly z 3 and 5 wood, taylormade m1 irons (5-PW), Top Flite Gamer wedges (52,56,60), and odyssey white ice putter. When I’m playing to keep score I typically play the Maxfli Tour X. When just getting a round in with friends or scrambling I play whatever I might find on the course or might find at the bottom of my bag.

Some good reading on the thread.  I feel like in the couple rounds I have played in, I have gained control but also distance because I am not so tense in the swing.   I am seeing about 10-20 yards on driver.  I hit one today 315 and haven't done that in forever.  Some of it was roll out obviously but it was a solid shot that had the height I have been searching for.

Ok ok you’ve sold me. Driver will go straight and 300+ where do I sign up? 😂

Some of the PGASS have them.  I got the last 2 on Amazon and then found the first 2 at a local shop.

Jumbomax Amazon store is a bit hit and miss but definitely worth checking. I've bought direct from JMX website too, but then you pay shipping.

STR8 grips are a little harder to come by, so I've had to buy from both the above at different times.

I still haven't committed to a full set yet, but I'll test out wedges and irons soon.

So, I just ordered the remaining ones for my clubs from their website and found a 15% off.  Anything over $49 is free shipping as well.

Not the cheapest but not just a ton more than some grips out there.

With the P770s to test, I can now put a JMX grip on one of my P790s and a spare 56* wedge and give them a go at the range and sim. I'll game the 56* wedge to try the grip out. Once the P-series test is complete, I'll look at fitting all JMX STR8 grips on the irons and wedges to complete the set.
