Title basically says it all... what is the biggest one (let's exclude rollback for now)

Spiked or Spikeless Shoes?

Shafts do or don't matter?

14 way vs other bag tops?

Walking vs Riding?

Strong lofts are bad?

Blades make you better or shouldn't be used by higher handicaps?

What do you think? I know I am missing a good hundred plus more!

New Equipment is needed every 3-5 years...?

 

I love seeing tests of older equipment up against the newest (typically drivers). How much more you're paying for minimal gains in some cases.  Or none at all

"Newer is always better" While I think in most cases that is true, for certain people buying the latest and greatest every time it rolls into the pro shop is probably hurting their game as they try and adapt and get used to the new stuff

Bifurcation or not.  The idea that the 99.9% of the hacks on the course need the ball rolled back is ridiculous, but the USGA wants nothing to do with bifurcation.

Most equipment debates come down to people holding onto notions, concepts, etc that have been debunked by data. They end up holding onto old things because there haven’t read up on the new information, stick to their favorite sources for reading and so on.

Similar to things like fittings and their usefulness. Usually comes down to unrealistic expectations, misunderstanding of what fittings are, etc.

The biggest equipment debate is that pros are playing something different than what is at retail and that bifurcation already exists because of this and the course setups also are so different that it’s also bifurcation

As an outsider with zero knowledge of the industry, the biggest equipment debates in my head are, has golf equipment become overly dependent on technology? Have major golf OEMs entered a sort of unhealthy, unsustainable “arms race”? Will DTCs make a sizable impact on the market that’ll affect the prices of Callaway, TaylorMade, Ping and others?
