If you ever win the lottery

If you were to win the lottery what golf related purchases would you make or how would it change how you golf now?

I’ve always (since finding out I love this game) wanted to own a golf course, so that’s where I would start. I’ve not put enough thought into where I would put this golf course but I would definitely like one of these halfway houses I keep seeing on social media and a par 3 course for the poor folks like me that can’t hit a driver.

If money suddenly fell in your lap and you could blow money on anything what would you get?

I have a cobra rad speed driver, cobra fly z 3 and 5 wood, taylormade m1 irons (5-PW), Top Flite Gamer wedges (52,56,60), and odyssey white ice putter. When I’m playing to keep score I typically play the Maxfli Tour X. When just getting a round in with friends or scrambling I play whatever I might find on the course or might find at the bottom of my bag.

I’d build a golf course.  It would be extremely private.  Only one member.  Faux Links.  Have it all designed in my head.

I’d probably let a few people on.  But there would be a strict no A Hole rule.  Pace of play would be set at around 2:45… any violations would result in a permanent ban.  I’d let music slide only if I couldn’t hear it.  But if you play slow… the price is wrong.

The first thing for me would be a new house with a dedicated simulator room fully equipped with a GC Quad. I also would go in for a driver fitting and new wedges. I'm pretty happy with my irons and hybrids.

It would also be nice to have a putting green and chipping area in the backyard.

This one is tough for me because it has multiple things.

1. Fix my home course.  It's such a great track but needs major help.  Back in the day it was an amazing course.

2. Build a full sim room out

3. Finish my backyard green and chipping area.  Entire yard would be built out.  Grass doesn't grow and it would be a great addition to the house.

1) Memberships at some clubs. Dont need many, just a few which I can parlay into some reciprocals.  Have to do some research, but geographically spread out.

2)  Golf trip to Australia- going to happen lottery or not

3) Dedicated SiM building adjacent to the new house

Going to need to be a good sized Powerball…  if it’s just a scratcher a new hitting mat.

I wouldn’t want to own a course or have an outdoor golf area at my house; too costly to maintain.

Like @sirchunksalot, I’d have a new house with a simulator for bad weather and night play.     I would also join a nearby club that has a great short game practice area and where I could play lots of golf.

I would buy a few memberships and a plane to transit between them.  Plus find a PGA tour level coach to try to get to scratch.  Probably won’t happen happen, but at least it will be fun practicing. 😂

How did I forget a full sim room?! I’d want a simulator “shed” attached or not doesn’t matter too much to me just would make sure that the noise of me hitting golf balls doesn’t bother the family if I’m up after bedtimes.

I mean if you are winning truly high millions then taking 100k and being able to bring 60 or so members for a dream trip to Scotland or something like that would be amazing for everyone involved.

This community has provided all of us with so much that I think anyone would do the same who is involved. Not sure how my wife would feel about it, but if I made sure to include a fun disney trip with the kids I think I would get the thumbs up lol

I would build my own driving range with ideal conditions for short game. I would buy a complete collection of vintage clubs, including an original set of Hogan Edge. My whole house would be filled with such things. In principle, I now receive casino bonuses on https://gamblizard.ca/ and from time to time I buy myself something collectible. Of course, it is not that expensive, but at least I somehow spoil myself with it. I would not refuse to win the lottery, like everyone else.

I would definitely invest in creating a unique golf course, the type of classic courses and innovative solutions for a more dynamic game. And of course, I would improve my life and golf skills by hiring the best coaches.

Would you bring in a course architect or do it yourself? I have 0 experience so I might would bring in an architect on the 1st one and maybe do another course after I learned what goes into building a unique design

Honestly, maybe a membership at a course or something personally, but my bigger goal would be to help seed the growth of the game.

So that means donating to all the local golf organizations, First Tee, Girls Who Golf, PGA Hope, etc. Maybe setting aside cash to sponsor lower tour players from the area or help some people aspiring to get to that level.

Lastly, and maybe selfishly, opening a few large indoor practice facility/Top Golf style venues for New York, maybe one in WNY (or investing in Oncore's project), one in CNY, one in the Southern Tier. Keeps cash flow stable and gives all of us snowbirds more options for winter practice.

Well, this will depend on exactly how much I'd win. But I'll assume a lot. I'll also assume I'd retire and all that.

1a. Move out to NV (this will happen eventually anyway) and build a modest home (it is just me after all) on a bit of property. I would then build an exterior building that would be my sim club. Multiple bays, small snack bar area, some couches/chairs, GC Quad or Trackman, etc. Ensure it would be large enough for a gathering of folks to play tournaments or sim leagues with all those forum members in the area or just others I'd meet out there. Also ensuring the projectors were hooked up to an external source to display ball games and stuff. So one bay can be in use and the other playing games or the current golf tournament.

1b. Do a small home sim building in the back with a single bay and small snack area, then put the larger setup in the golf shop in item 2 below.

2. Open a golf shop, that matches the dream scenario I've written up in a file on my desktop.

3. Invest in an eco-friendly, highly sustainable executive 18 hole course where the dress code would be a bit more relaxed (within reason) and the costs would be far more reasonable. No carts, only walking to help keep costs down and remove gas engine output and noise from the course. Plenty of water stations for those hotter days. It would have a great driving range, short game area, and putting green that would be open to the public even if they're not playing golf.

Spend the rest of my days playing golf, helping others play the game to their best, helping get people into quality equipment without paying a fortune, and just enjoying the game and those who love it too.

I think that different ages or stages of life may impact some of the ideas of those responding to this thread may be.

Myself, at this stage, I would be more inclined to follow the ideas of @sirchunksalot, and @cnosil in regard to a new house with a full indoor area for practice, etc.

Unsure if I would join a club, there are enough diverse layout affordable courses here that would make that decision a difficult one at this time.

Although @Berg Ryman and @Shrek74 ideas are also great, they would be a more long-term commitments to maintain to ensure on-going success.

Oh to dream about winning the lottery 😄 Unlike some of you, I have 0 desire to own a golf course.

1. New house with room for a top of the line sim. Maybe a putting/chipping area in the yard. If I'm a millionaire I'm paying someone to maintain it.

2. Making sure public courses stay open. There are plenty of clubs on the east side of Cleveland, but more and more public non-gov't owned courses are shutting down. I don't need to own them, but donations to make sure they can do what they need to stay open.

3. Club memberships. See previous comment about a bunch of clubs near me.

4. Golf trips with friends (and some Spies). I would find those cool courses in another thread and have some fun.

Golf related spend:

1. Membership to a couple of the better courses in the area. Then just play any and all good public courses I want to.

2. IF we were to stay in Indiana (very big IF), I'd probably get a few holiday homes (or timeshare type deal) in areas known to be golfing heaven. One back in my homeland (UK) minimum, one in a warmer US state near premium/ PGA tour level courses for Indy winters, maybe one in mainland Europe on the Mediterranean coast.

3. Home updates. Knock down garage and replace with something more barn-like. Wider and longer, with space allocated for a full sim setup. Insulated and heated/ cooled. Attic fully finished to be a home office with indoor putting green (one of the adjustable ones). Well organized golf store room with racks for all the clubs I'm gonna end up buying. LMAO

- 3a. Kit out garage with tour truck level club building setup.

4. Lessons, lessons and more lessons and work to get to scratch. Lessons and golf camps for my kids, if they're still interested. Lessons for my wife too, to see if she wants to learn to play or just continue to ride along and have a drink. 🙂

5. Back to college part-time to do some post-grad advanced materials engineering  learnin', trade school to relearn some manufacturing/ fabrication skills and build a little machine shop to play with making own clubs.

If the winning lottery jackpot were sufficient, I would buy a place in East Lothian or on the Ayrshire coast of Scotland and spend part of the year over there, playing golf and enjoying the hospitality and spirit of the local population.  Since Scotland is the home country of my ancestors (father’s side of the family), I have a special affinity for the country and great affection for the Scottish people.

Lots of short game practice has made this a strength; now the driver is causing problems!

I think we all have golf plans in our head should we become suddenly wealthy.

1. Outbuilding with top of the line simulator, indoor putting green, gym, and of course - a bar.

2. Outside would have an outdoor driving range with launch monitors, real putting green, practice green with varying rough and bunkers. As much as I'd want to add a short par 3 course - I wouldn't want to deal with the upkeep, regardless of wealth.

3. I think I'd only pay for a high-end club membership if it had great reciprocals at other exclusive courses, or was a bucket-list course like Augusta.

4. A whole bag fitting at Club Champion or similar independent fitter.

5. ProV1s on Subscribe and Save...lol

That's all my personal stuff - obviously, there would be stuff for friends, donations to orgs that grow the game, etc.
