  1. As @RoverRick updated earlier we had a good time playing Gillis Invitational at his home course in Sulpher Springs. The course is beautiful and very well maintained. Format was 2-man best ball.

We redeemed ourselves in today's round after posting a rather unimpressive score yesterday. Rick's iron play wasn't as bad as he stated, just not up to his usual standard. My putting on the other hand was a display to forget. Rick can definitely roll the pill and demonstrated it numerous times through the weekend but the most notable stroke was on #9 from well over 40 feet. It was beautiful!

My swing was better today, and the clubs fitted with TPT shafts performed admirably. Results continue to impress me with added length and tighter dispersion.

I had a great weekend and I look forward to playing more golf with Rick aa our schedules permit.

Got out again today! Experimenting with video editing too.

I’m new to it as you can tell. Let me know what you think. @Northern Monkey I played with the clubs in the configuration you suggested and it worked pretty well. I hurt my hip so I need to rest it. The wife also goes in for surgery and we’ll be in Denver all week. Drs want her to stay down there for the week. I am taking the clubs because she told me to, but I doubt I’ll play. I’m also taking medicated patches for my hip just in case.

Sorry to hear about the hip injury. Hope it heals up quickly!

Positive thoughts and prayers for your wife's surgery next week.

    My Titleist Vokey Fitting Experience

Okay MGS nation as the heading suggests, this post is all about sharing my fitting experience from yesterday (5/16) for the SM10 Vokey wedges. As I mentioned in a previous post LINK there are 3 different ways to get fitted. For this test, I was contacted by a regional fitting specialist from Titleist named Josh. He travels around to different golf clubs in our area providing his expertise in fitting players into the best equipment for their swing.

TLDR - The Titleist fitting with Josh was awesome. After a brief warm up I began making some swings. The Trackman was recording as I was using different degree/bounce/lofted wedges based on the recommendations from Josh and the special Vokey software was using. I made full swings, pitch, flop, and bunker shots and each result provided more feedback to ultimately get me in the right set. Josh used his expertise in fitting as we went and explained every part of the process along the way, and after 45 minutes I walked away excited about the new Vokeys destined for my bag. I highly recommend this fitting experience if you get the opportunity.

For those interested in knowing more details read on!

I arrived at The Country Club of the North (love the name) about 15 minutes prior to my appointment. My fitter, Josh, was waiting underneath his tent surrounded by an amazing array of equipment.

This was my first fitting experience with a fitter of any type so I was glad to be there to soak it all in! After some introductory conversation Josh asked me to get warm with my PW and watched my swing and turf interaction. I was feeling good and my ball striking was pretty solid.

Titleist provides a Trackman system to its fitters and couples that with custom Vokey wedge fitting software that analyzes the player’s swing arc and impact tendencies. To get started, Josh had me hit a full 52 degree with an 08 bounce. After 1 shot the system beeped and Josh took that club out of my hand and handed me another with more bounce. After another couple shots, he asked me some questions about the feel and the tendencies I have. We then moved into a 56 degree and took some more full swings. Eventually Josh was swapping that out as well and he invited me to take a look at what he was seeing.

    IMG_5848.JPEG.691d7f908a9330ddbb289842e0de4129.JPEG

We then went to the 60 degree with a bounce and grind that was recommended by the software. This is where it started to get really interesting and tailored specifically to me. I made full, pitch, and flops shots as instructed and those results then shifted the recommendations for the 56 and 52 degree options I hit previously. Now here is where the human element shines. I was potentially matching up with a D grind or an M grind both in slightly different bounces. To narrow things down Josh recommended we step away from the tech and hit a few out of the rough under his watchful eye. We then continued by going to the bunker and around the green shots in the adjacent practice area.

I love my lob wedge. I use it often. In fact, I haven’t had a sand wedge in my bag for months b/c sadly it was lost and never returned. So I have a gap between 60 and the PW. Josh, knowing that the spot in my bag was empty, asked me to make several shots with PW again. This time he paid close attention to my carry, spin, and landing angles. He put a 48 degree, 10 bounce, F grind in my hand and asked me to make a couple shots. I easily flew 10-15 yds further and boy did the strike feel good off the face. After the 2nd shot I said “That was perfect” and immediately Josh smiled and said “That’s what I love to hear.”

Based on this revelation we tweaked the recommendations to better match the gapping and we confidently chose the following:

    • 48.10 F - this effectively replaces my stock PW b/c it flies further with more spin and the bounce is better for my swing.
    • 54.10 S - this bridges the gap and will become an all around utility club from approx 100 yards and in. I aim to use this one around the green, out of bunkers, and on longer greenside pitches
    • 60.08 M - the grind on this one is Bob Vokey’s favorite and the most versatile. It performed well on flop and high sand trap shots during the fitting. Full shots will net me about 75-80 yards carry.

I had a great time with this fitting. Josh was awesome! His years of skills and knowledge were evident and his explanations and demonstrations were easy to understand. The Titleist equipment on display was impressive and he was so gracious to let me stick around after the fitting to ask more questions and hit some more balls. Had a blast!

Kudos to Titleist for hiring great fitters like Josh to usher golfers through their impressive Vokey fitting process. It was more than I anticipated and shows why the Titelist name carries so much weight in golf equipment.

The next step is the ordering process!

Nice recap of your fitting! Did they use range or premium balls during the fitting?

Day 121 (17 May 24) - Plans fell thru for a good friend and I to play a nearby course…called my son and we played Minnesott.  We followed  the men’s group out and had a very fun and relaxed round.  One of those rare days where ball striking was super consistent, distances predictable, and putts going in….shot 39 on the front (including a triple bogie 8 on the par 5 6th (lost ball in the ditch off the tee)).  Head stayed in the game as I went par-birdie-par to finish the front.  Kept pace with a 37 on the back with a birdie on 10 and dbl bogie on 16 bookending five consecutive pars. Finished the back with two more pars.  A personal best 76!
Just wanted to add that those DCI 962 irons were the bees knees in the irons dept….

    Congratulations on the personal best!

Good Evening spies!  Long day at work, and there was no end in sight for the peacemakers into the night shift either.  My only saving grace was knowing I have the weekend off!

The dealership also called and apparently they ordered the wrong bumper. It was the correct bumper, but not the right trim colors (mine had chrome, the replacement didn't)  so it may be another week.  I told them just install it and it will be fine.  They told me that if they do that then any sensor or connection failures will not be covered under warranty.   So now I wait another week possibly.   😔

Maybe they should provide a loaner vehicle for the remainder of time in shop since it is due to their error?

So let’s look at what I was using for comparison to the Shot Scope watch with the gps overview on the Shot Scope app.
My laser died so I before I purchased something I was picked for the Shot Scope testing .

I started using the USGA gps system and here is the comparison on hole number one. IMG_2634.png.55f23e10531fa036d0701ae43ebffe38.pngIMG_2633.png.39f7599340f066fe2f728c8a15da1ca1.png

So open question, which one would the spy’s prefer. First photo Shot Scope, second USGA.

Personally, I prefer the SS view, but do wonder about the difference in yardage between the two applications?

I've entered into some sort of alternate dimension where par seems to be in play.   Not complaining, but I'm half wondering if I may be dreaming.   😄

Played the little exec I learned to play on.   A little Par 33 that's a lot of fun and a reasonable challenge.   Made par through the first 3 and left a putt for birdie in the Jaws (if it was a freshly cut hole it would have dropped).   Made bogey on the long Par 3 5th which I'm happy with because I had to hit a hooded chip from next to a tree trunk to get on the green.   Chipped in for Birdie on 6, made another on 7.  At this point I was -1 and I got greedy.  Tried to stuff the tee shot on 8 in close to the pin and short sided myself to walk with bogey then did the same with my second shot on 9 to finish +1.  I know this run won't last forever, but man it's been fun.

Great round! Ride the wave and let it soak in... You can make it last longer than you think!

    Houston we have a problem!

I took today off to use the watch, I was really interested in checking out the data. Had the watch connected to the course I was playing and had my phone hooked up with the app as another overview of each hole.
Firstly the shot scope app on the phone had different distances than on the watch. I played the yardages from the watch and that was accurate.
Weird surely the watch and its phone should read the same. As I was standing right next to both items and 10 yards is a big difference.

Following this one for sure. I have not used both watch and phone app at same time but will give it a try this weekend and see what I get.
