I appreciate that! My wife got the Pfizer and felt lethargic afterward and I just don't want that or getting fever or chills. Hopefully the last couple of hours of work will work any soreness out.

I’ll be going next week for dose 1 of Moderna. Also hoping for minimal effects.

My wife however, is preparing for “Severe Man-Cold” symptoms.

Looking at possibly trying a new driver.

Tried out a couple for the first time today.  First up was the Sim 2 and Epic Speed.  Asked the clerk for the Epic Max LS, but he grabbed the wrong club (thanks Golf Galaxy).  Tried it anyways, Sim 2 was not for me at all, while I do like the look, I was not finding the center well and spin was way too high.

Epic Speed was better, but spin was still a bit higher than what I'd be looking for if I made a switch.  Will try to hit more during the next week as I do want to hit the Titleist drivers and maybe Cobra.

As much as I've tried to love the Ping drivers, I just don't garner confidence from them.

I really like the Epic Max LS, I want to do a deeper dive with one. That said, you’d be doing yourself a disservice to not at least swing a cobra driver.

also thanks for posting and making me think about drivers again... it’s been a few days. Haha

  3. Add me to the Modus 125 Wedge club.  It was the best performing and feeling for me in a fitting.  I'm also using Modus 120x in my irons.

As you mentioned Cleveland does have the shafts available and I know Cobra does as well as a no charge option.  But if you're set on Edison I think it's worth it to do.  All depends on what your budget is.

Part of the enjoyment of these threads is learning more about golf. Faxon talked about golf forefathers not wanting people to
    Putt that way.

Some research indicates that during the 20s and 30s many players anchored the putter to their leg including Bobby jones. Didn’t feel like search the USGA archives for the video

    http://www.myusualgame.com/tag/rule-14-1b/

There was a method called DIEGELING where a conventional length putter was pressed into the belly. This method was used in the 20s by hall of fame golfer leo Deigel.

Croquet style was not outlawed because of its effectiveness but because of appearance.

In the 80s Johnny Miller used an “arm lock” putter.

    Short people problem:

I look like I am Deigeling every time they hand me the “adult” putter for mini golf.

well at least I could anchor it to my belly and not even look half as bent over as he did. 😂

  5. Just a swing in the yard, but this was not immediately after a workout and I’ve never had a path pattern like this.  I’m excited to get to the range/course and see some video hitting balls.

Pretty sure this would have been a big ol slice since it looks like my face is open... but that usually get cleaned up when I actually have the ball to focus on.

    Not easy!

I guessed on about half of them.
Interesting to see the way some courses are laid out vs others as well as the amount of homes built up around them and the roads.

I tried to remember holes or features of some of the options.  17 as sawgrass, there was one with Hazeltine which didn't have church pew bunkers anywhere... the highway running through the middle of Oakmont, etc.  Some I had seen the aerial views before like Seminole since it was shown so frequently when the event was played there last year.

Some of those last ones though.... pure speculation based on the name and look of the place.

So far I am happy with the SIM2.  3 wood has been a tough one for me to figure out with my swing.  I played last week with this exclusively off the tee and I found that a lot of my issues were confidence more than technique.  I kept overthinking and over engineering myself when I should have just swung the club.  The Ventus is new yesterday from People's golf and I hope to take that out next week when the snow melts lol.  Yes, when the snow melts.

The gap is a little wider than I would prefer but I have a tough time convincing myself to buy one club to fit a gap I may only hit once or twice a round.  If it means laying up or choking down on the 3 wood I can live with that.

I put a couple swings on the current driver when I was being fit for the 3 wood and to be honest, my numbers were exactly where I had hoped they'd be.  Ball Speed was high 160's, spin was low 2's and dispersion was snug.  I am less data and more feel and that LM session was more validation than anything.  Maybe next year we'll explore a driver swap.

I love the ventus blue in my 5-wood.  It's stable, but still smooth for me and gives me a great launch with it.  I'm very happy with that one.  Hopefully you enjoy yours!  It looks like we have similar taste in shafts (I've liked evenflow black, and Modus 120).

  8. Not that anyone really needs any new opinions here..

Since the end of the shaft is free, I don't agree that it is anchoring.  Do I think those that use it feel it gives them an advantage?  Of course, or they wouldn't do it.

But that's the same reason I look for a pistol grip with a big axe handle at the top.  For me, I fell like it "locks in" my hands and wrist.  It gives me great control over the face of the putter.

Maybe we need to ban all non-round standard size grips while we're at it?

  9. Got outside while my lunch was cooking and did my second day of the SuperSpeed C beginning protocol.  I was happy to see within the first set I got up to the 131 mark again.  It still feels a little awkward but I felt like I got some more powerful swings in.  My numbers were much more consistent today and I topped out at 133 on dominant swings and 127 on non-dominant swings.  Both new bests with Superspeed sticks.

It's starting to rain here, so maybe doing some of the short game Planemate work later on inside, or maybe some putting practice tonight, we'll see!

Right elbow, right pocket.... (POCKET, not hip...you start going towards the hip and you're in doo-doo <speaking from experience>)

This has really helped me mitigate the over-the-top/throw-the-club-out move.

Good stuff here from Rory and Martin...

Thanks for sharing that.  I've always been a fan of Rory's swing, and I like that thought for a feel.

Also it's not fair how much better pro's clubs sound when they hit them... it's just not fair!

Those Adirondack Chairs are pretty good. We’ve got the same ones that stay outside all year and they don’t bake out, crack or discolor in FL sun. We’ve had considerably more expensive furniture last only 5 years.

Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy

Yeah, I've had some family and friends that own similar ones that have help up really well.  I actually sort of think they can be more comfortable than a lot of the more expensive ones too.  And I won't feel as bad when the boys destroy them with whatever tools, weapons,  or body parts that are use to check how strong they are.

Right now they can't resolve the issue. I've checked the sensors, placed it in my front left pocket with the screen facing out, and cleaned the microphone.

I think they have issues with Android, but I've never had this bad of a problem before. They've been really helpful, but I'm just not seeing progress. The next time I play I'm going to video the entire process and seems it in to them. My thoughts are it might have something to do with the latest system update Android put out, it's been mostly happening since then, but I don't know.

Sounds like an iPhone will fix the problem!

I kid I kid! I hope they get it resolved for you. Just a thought. Did you check the apps permissions since the update to make sure it has access to the microphone to hear the shots? Maybe some settings for changes with the OS update.

You have to watch out for conclusions from horizontal spread. I've reviewed shots and "yards from center" does not always detect the center of fairway. It also doesn't allow you to factor in if you were aiming away from trouble for a shot 30 yards right of center just barely in the rough which is a lot better if there is sand or water left.

Instead of 13 vs 19 yards of dispersion, I would look at total spread and pick a number of poor shots to eliminate. If you remove 1 widest miss from the charts above, you have a dispersion of 60 yards with your 5W and 100+ yards with your driver (rounding to nearest 10 yards). These numbers are about 15 and 40-50 yards wider than ideal for that distance based on what Scott Fawcett talks about in DECADE for dispersion patterns. Getting 10% more distance with a 60% bigger dispersion spread is likely costing you strokes unless the courses you play are wide open with minimal hazards and trees.

It would be easy for 10 balls on the right side of the driver graph to be lost, go OB, or require punch outs unless you strictly aim up the left side of fairway and even into the rough. You need this info the figure out strokes gained (or lost). But all of this data is influenced by the factor in BOLD above.

25 yards less off the tee is 0.2-0.3 strokes lost per drive. 1 tee ball OB is 2 strokes lost, so roughly 7-10 shots with driver vs 5w. In Shot Scope, there are scoring breakdowns by tee club and my 2H (220-250 club) vs driver (250-270) were basically equal. I did learn that my driving iron "safety club" was my worst performing tee club, even worse than clubbing wayyyy down to 6 iron. The takeaway is you and me both need to get better at driver, but in the meantime you can't blindly follow the gospel of pull driver when there is no hazard/OB. 😉

Scott Fawcett will occasionally throw out the disclaimer that if you're awful with driver and good with the next club down, the driver strategy may not apply but then always follows it up with "that means you need to work on driver". I've taken the driver advice to heart and look to hit it where possible because you will always hit more greens with your wedges than an 8 iron no matter your level of iron play.

As you mentioned, having the awareness to drop back from driver on a day you are not hitting it well is important. Especially on holes with OB/penalty areas as the dispersion increases risk. It is impossible to quantify the effect that confidence will have on the outcome if you feel shaky with driver in the hand.

    Good and interesting feedback, thanks.

I can say with 110% certainty the far left ball on the driver was a dead pull, and ricocheted off a tree and went clear into the middle of the next fairway over. 🤪

So that’s an outlier for sure.

Also agree that the centerline isn’t great either. One course in Maine I play has a fairway that never really ends. (The two green balls well right of center).

driver i typically aim to play up the left side and cut back to the center. With the 5 wood I actually feel comfortable working a draw or fade in.

ill have to check out the DECADE stuff. Also put me in the “driver swing needs work” camp! Haha

  14. Today was some indoor planemate work.  Basically worked each "day" as 5-6 reps to keep feeling the positions.  Really trying to focus on that follow through and not letting the band cross under.  I probably did 30 of those at various speeds.  When I take full swings it wants to go under.  I'm not moving the handle low and left nearly as much as I do with the short game shots.

Then I got the Superspeed C stick in the mail from @edingc and had to throw all form thoughts out the window and go for speed speed speed!

For not doing a Superspeed workout in a few weeks I was happy that I bested both my dominant and non-dominant side max speeds with the green stick.  Now I know I'm SUPPOSED to be faster with the counterbalanced stick... but the first few felt weird and its been a while!

    4BDDE6DE-0E69-4850-AFA5-C29324AD0008.jpeg.01e40448e5c9d777a59d0e6be41c539c.jpeg

It's always nice to see 131 on the radar though.  a full 1 MPG faster than my max green stick.  Not quite at @Chip Strokes's actual driver speeds yet, but I'll have to take it for now.

  15. Generally I take Driver.  But there are a few considerations.  To start, I use a 5-wood so there is definitely a distance gap.  Arccos shows my driver as 261 and my 5-wood as 237, a 24 yard gap.  However the range is much greater as I can hit my driver further if I figure a few things out consistently.  Arccos has the top end range for my driver as 281 vs 253 for the 5 wood, a 28 yard gap,  That is the difference between a 8 iron or PW on an approach.  For me with those two clubs I hit the green 22% more of the the time with the PW.  That's a sort of shocking difference actually.  Note to self: Time to clean up the iron play.

Here is my off the tee performance for both:

    Driver.JPG.18b47ce6afb0ddcdbc861b448fa57541.JPG

    2061328682_5wood.JPG.9d05e12238261bca40449285ca043f0d.JPG

First thing to note is that I have about half as many tee shots with the 5-wood, but still a good sample.  There are two things that stick out to me immediately:

    • I do have tighter dispersion with the 5-wood being 6 yards tighter.

I'm not really sure in the long run this alone would lead to lower scores as we've already discussed the 24-28 yard distance gap I would be leaving myself on average.

    • Dispersion pattern is more left with the 5-wood than driver

This is where I can and do use my patterns if I choose to not hit driver.  I've played a few holes where I run a higher risk of running out of room on the right or the hole is shaped/sloped in a way that a shot moving from left to right ends up in a significantly less favorable spot than 20-30 yards back in the fairway.  But they're aren't many.

I'm pretty sure that if it weren't for a lot of the challenges built into #CCC4 that it would even be close to a 2 to 1 ratio.  Now, If I'm leaving everything well right or not swinging the driver great... I have a ton of confidence in the 5-wood to be consistent.  If that happens I'll use it off the tee, because I know the distance gap between them isn't 24-28 yards if I'm not hitting driver well.  But unless there's an obvious reason not too like forced layups or severe left to right slopes and doglegs, the big stick is coming out of the bag most of the time.

If you're still in the hunt for a hybrid without the draw bias, I'd look at the TS3.  It has come down in price with the TSi hybrids, has no draw bias, and adjustable to really dial in loft and lie...highly recommend.

Of course, you could always spring for the newer release from Titleist that has the same properties, just different weight system and heftier price tag.

100% will try the Titleist hybrids.  I even had the old 818h1 that I liked a lot before getting the Speedzone.  I know the H2 was even more fade biased... but I prefer the rounded shape of the H1 in them.  With the flip-able weight and hosel adjustments that was enough to keep me from overcooking them.

The only thing I'll have reservations about is I'm kind of a big believer in Cobra's rails on the sole now.  My contact with the fairway and hybrid were unusually crisp last year.  Just need to keep the hybrid from overturning.  OR you know... maybe I need to get a lesson.  That could be it too! haha
