My wife and I were heading to the course Sunday when the conversation turned to her wanting a tablet she can take outside and draw on. My hobby is golf, hers is drawing and she's really, really good. So she brought up she'd like to get an iPad. Of course I jumped all over that for completely altruistic reasons without any ulterior motives *cough* launch monitor *cough*.

I've been thinking about both the Mevo and the Rapid and it just so happens they only run on Apple. Not that I'd do something like that. 😜

I see nothing wrong with this line of thinking... Seems totally legit.  but you know... tablets can be expensive with all the accessories.  If you play your cards right a used SkyTrak might be on the table. 🤔

  2. Working my way through the advanced protocols and I'm really enjoying the the work on the backswing and transition to impact.  That umbrella thought really is simple and easy to adopt.

My hands still want to release through and the band sneaks under if I try a full swing, but my 3/4 and chip pitch shots have been feeling good.  I must be stalling out somewhere with the full swings.  Might set up the video to see if I can capture it.

I'd like to hit another bucket or two with those partial shots (maybe actually off grass) before getting to the course, but the feel dynamite during practice swings.

  3. Preface:  I'm a financial Analyst by day, over-analyzer by night.

First off, the golf side of things!

I love the data and insight offered by Arccos and other tracking systems.  I've learned a lot about my game that you might miss if you look at your scorecard or FW/GIR/Putts in a round.  But on course, my decisions are much more tactical... Where's the Pin, where should I hit to (usually towards the center), where do I want to avoid.  After that it's what club fits that shot.  Outside of that I'll put a guess on wind/elevation and use my feel and experience (as @cnosil put so well) to go from there.  All of this takes very little time, and I don't waste much time over the ball which my friends can attest to.  I do my best to just commit to the shot and go.  I forget which article it was, but it talked about Pro's taking less than 8 seconds to hit the ball once they finished their set up and I noticed better shots from my own game when I started to do that as it prevented thinking over the ball.

    Secondly, off the course.

I 100% can suffer from analysis paralysis.  Thanks @StrokerAce for sharing that article.. it was actually very insightful for me.  A lot of those things mentioned are hard for me to do.  I'm going to be more mindful of them and try to break that filthy habit.

Honestly I just decided where and what I was going to order for lunch in less than 2 minutes and I already feel better.  But that could just be my stomach glad to know a BBQ chicken calzone is on the way. 🤤

  4. Thanks @edingc for linking all our reviews.

I got 52, 56, and 60 in the MIM black and would add a 48 if I could in the classic grind.  I did get all 3 grinds as well and feel they each perform well.  My favorite is the 52* classic grind... it's awesome for me around the green.  The finish is holding up very well after I was initially concerned with it.

I continue to be impressed by them and think they compare very well to the Vokey SM7's I was using prior.  I'm not sure I can say anything more positive about them than that.  Add in the no charge custom shaft options Cobra has and you'd be silly to not at least try them out.

I haven't hit the snakebite wedges, or even seen them in person, but I'm less fond of the full face look on the higher lofted ones.

Overall, I think they deserve to be in the conversation with the best wedges, and because of the custom options they represent a great value too.

  5. Chilly range session today.

It was barely 50* and breezy, but nice to hit a bucket anyway.

Had two 5 woods register 126 and 129 which were obviously not correct. But I have them so I can post over on WRX now anyway. 🤫

Highlight for me came on my final drive of the day. I was aiming for a hoop that sits at the back of the range (300-310 to the tree line) and it started left and cut right back and would have rolled through it if it was long enough. The ball goes up a small hill and disappears over the crest so I’m not sure exactly where it ended up. But I was pumped anyway.

Hit a good spot on the face too!

  6. Kind of a unique situation for me. When I went to the office I would go down on lunch and hit balls on the simulator in the gym. So I probably got more full swing practice in before. But since being home I’ve been able to work on putting inside and partial shots around the yard.

Also, I golfed a lot more last year by going out once a week in the AM before logging in.

So more of a change in play/practice opportunities for me.

  7. Thinking of building a synthetic putting green in the backyard on the cheap.
Anyone done this and have any tips? Seems pretty straightforward...

*Not* looking for anything fancy at all. Have about 75ish yards in the back and thinking of a small green (6x8?) with a single cup that I can chip onto and just putt around on for fun.

Steps to Installing a Putting Green

    • Mark out the location, size, and shape.
    • Remove old sod.
    • Compact the ground with a plate compactor.
    • Lay down weed barrier.
    • Add edging.
    • Lay down a base like crushed stone, and smooth it out.
    • Compact the base.
    • Add infill and turf.

No advice... but let me know when you’re done I’ll come over and you can steal all my money with putting/chipping contests. Haha

Any reason to not do 2 or 3 cups that you can putt between?

I think it would be interesting to hear the two of you talking golf and taking jabs at each other. Over the last month or so, I've become addicted to the Chasing Scratch podcast and you two would be right up my alley.

It’ll be the most Wicked Pissah Golf Podcast!  A mix of mediocre golf shots, bad dad jokes, contemplating life without Tom Brady in NE, and constantly reminding Mark that he stinks at golf.

    #shotsfired 😉

  9. Got to the driving range today on lunch. I did my planemate work earlier in the morning so I was just focused on actually hitting the golf ball. 😂

mats only and there was a decline behind me so no camera work to look at the swing unfortunately. Hit them decently well. I was pumped to get to hit the Modus 120x in my irons for real.  They feel so good to me. I was hitting a lot of high and tight draws with my short and mid irons.

moving into the long game I was super happy to see both the radar up around 110 and this strike pattern:

Some asshat next to me had something like 125 mph on a 3-wood *cough* @Lacassem *cough* but at least he let me take a swing with his new driver. Needless to say the loft difference of 3.5ish degrees lower was no good for me... but I did pop the Motore X into my Speedzone for some swings. Overall it felt VERY similar to the Ventus I have.

Oh! The highlight of my practice today was how crisp and nice my pitch shots felt using the technique from the first week of Planemate. If nothing else it’s going to be excellent for my short game!

lastly, Mark and I usually end with some closest to the pin challenges but there weren’t that many out so we worked in shaping around things (fade long irons, low ropey draw fairways, etc). He may have had the longest drives and highest swing speed, but I dominated the flop shot contest. 😎

there’s nothing quite like laying your 60* wedge wide open on a mat and swinging as hard as you can and watching the ball pop straight up and travel less than 20 yards down range.

haha wow!! i think i would’ve gotten more support if i said i was considering putting side saddle.

@tony@CIC @B.Boston @MattF @Lacassem @Tom the Golf Nut i’ve got someone coming by tomorrow to fix the hole i put in the ceiling. the new wallpaper plan is to ask him how much he’d charge to paper the one wall in question.

I was just going to drop a link to a 2021 interior design blog that says accent walls are on their way out in 2021....

but then they said that "Granny chic" style was on the rise so I decided against it.

Lots of youtube videos on best practices. It'd been years since I've done it - I just remember it was a pain, the new prepasted wallpaper is probably a lot easier. .

I've got some bad memories of "working" with my dad as a teen that included spraying walls and scrubbing paste off so he could come in and paint them.  Actually... I can kind of still smell it now.  Gross.
