Arccos Subscription Info

Recommended Posts

Hope I'm posting in the correct area.  If not, admins please feel free to move.

This information is from the Arccos FAQ section.  If I'm reading it correctly, it says that the subscription will only be for the sensors coming out in early 2020.  I've seen a lot about subscriptions on here but didn't see anything about one when I received my free sensors a few days ago.

Looks like the right spot, and this is a good explanation of the change.  I also appreciate that they are not soaking older users that invested in Arccos 360/Arccos Caddie sensors without an expectation of a subscription.  I do wonder what'll happen once the batteries in old sensors start dying, and people replace old sensors with the new 2020 models.

Lowering the price from $250 to $180 and throwing in the first year of the subscription takes the sting out of things a little, but it sounds like Arccos is going a little farther up-market, leaving an opportunity for Shot Scope to undercut them at $119 and no subscription.  Should make for an interesting dynamic.

Will be interesting to watch.  For me a subscription based service is a definite no go.   I

It's certainly a tickmark in the Cons column.  If Arccos really does improve their product each year, then perhaps they can justify a $99 annual subscription.  Otherwise, they open themselves up for an annual purchasing decision.  And with Shot Scope positioning their entire TCO at just slightly more than a year's worth of Arccos, that's a tough decision.

think I'll be grandfathered since I had the 360 sensors before the Cobra smart grips, but who knows?

Honestly, I wonder how tough it would be to come up with a homebrew solution with passive RFID tags, an NFC enabled phone, and an app that will read the tags and collect the tag ID and geolocation and then publish it to some data storage location where it could be analyzed.  This would be a fun project to open source, if I were still a coder.

Arccos has already committed to product support for the life cycle of pre-2020 sensor (I’m guessing about 5 years based on stated battery life).

I think we’ll see them make adjustments to the subscription model as time moves on. $99/yr does seem a bit too much and I think they’ll move closer to $50/yr. That’s just my personal opinion though and I don’t have any insider knowledge about it. I just know I’ve seen plenty of complaints about the subscription requirement for all products.
