The Still Aceless Thread

Only just discovered this thread! Love it. Definitely part of this club. I've had an albatross 2 on a par 5 when I was 18/19 (driver-3W with persimmon clubs!), but no hole in one to date.

This is the closest I've had this year. July 11th this year in a league round. 140ish yard par 3.

Still aceless.

I had my closest miss last weekend playing with @GolfSpy_BEN on a 150+ yard par 3.  My iron shot jarred the cup on the fly and ricocheted against the pin, jumping off the green to the left.  The pin or cup left a pretty nasty scuff on the ball too.  What an odd and bittersweet series of emotions:  "That felt good.  Looks good.  Is this happening?  Oh my G...!!!   Wait, what?  Did that just ...?  Aw man.  I'm chipping now?"

Still hoping . . .

I have also had an albatross (driver + 3 wood on a 525 yard par-5), but I’m patiently awaiting my first outdoor ace.

Which is more brutal?

The one that finishes within 6 inches to a foot?

Or

The one that rolls right by the hole but finishes a couple feet away?

I think the second hurts the heart more. Sends your stomach to your toes! I've seen someone lip out an ace and I swear I could hear his heart breaking.

Having recently done both having the ball stop within a foot or so is more brutal. I bounced one off the stick and it dropped to the green and sat about 4 inches from the hole. I have done that a few times over the years.

I am still waiting on the one that actually drops in the hole.

I've had an albatross, never an ace. My son has had an ace, he's only been playing a couple years. I almost had an ace, playing on a cold October day. I think I've told this story before here. Anyway, the cup had ice up to the top of it so there was no hole. It was even with the green with the pin sticking out. I hit my shot and it rolled right to the pin, bounced off the pin just to the edge of the cup. If the cup had been empty or even had water instead of ice in it, the ball would have dropped. My buddies called it an ace, I did not, therefore no ace.

I could play golf every day and learn something new each time.

Well after over 50 years of playing this game I am now finally out of this club. Got my 1st on a regulation course 5-21-24. Our 11th hole at 137 yards over water. Hit an antique Macgregor 8 iron. I actually had given up after so many close calls over the years. I have had a bunch on Par3 courses but never one on a regulation course. Did it with 3 witnesses in my 4 some in a tournament plus a bud of mine walking his dog saw it too and one of the maintenance guys saw it too. I always figured it would come while I was by myself playing one of my vintage rounds. LOL it paid good too. Hit the Members Pool plus the league pool, It was also a closest to the pin hole for the event that day and of course I hit the birdie pool on that hole for the day. So see it can happen

Congrats Stu.
