Seven wood anyone?

HAC

Recommended Posts

Add me to the list of believers. G425 7 wood with Tensei orange 75 gram stiff shaft. Versatile and lands soft. 3 of the par 3's at home course are between 175-200. Bought it just for them but now use it more frequently than I thought. Can't hold a long iron like I can this club. Would highly recommend giving one a try.

My 7 wood is the only club I haven't switched out of my bag in the last few years.  I've played with an Adams Blue 7 wood for many years now and it's the perfect 190-200 club for me.  Hits straighter than my 5 iron.  We have a 200 yard Par 3 on our local course and this is the perfect club to land it on the green and stay there!

Yep. I have a 21 Degree Adams Blue 7 I built that is so easy to hit and lands so softly. I really enjoy hitting the 7 wood. Has such a rewarding trajectory.

I also play a 19 degree hybrid and a 25 degree hybrid and this covers the 180-220 very well but as you all know, the 7 wood isnt very good into wind which is when the low launch/spin hybrid get selected. bluuu.jpg.dcac9ed89e22806c01c114b330f90c8f.jpg

I LOVE my Callaway X 7 wood, it is money!  The rest of the story though is that I used to use a TM Burner and IT was my favorite money club BUT when I finally got my wife to start playing, I noticed she had trouble with certain shots so I said....Hey, try my 7 wood, well she loved it and hit it pretty so I gave it to her and started looking for the same club online.....no luck so I tried Hireko and found a 7 wood from them.  I didn't care for how dead the club felt when I hit the ball, so gave it away.  One day looking at the used club barrel at my local Roger Dunn store , found a used Callaway X 7 wood for $65 in great shape.  This club is money as well!  The only thing I had to get used to was the pinggggg sound it made when I hit the ball.  I also use a TM Burner Rescue 5 hybrid that I just love!  I don't hit my irons very well so these two clubs fill in nicely.

Thinking of adding a 7wood instead of a new 3 or 4 hybrid.  I plan on seeing a fitter, but have the Ping g430, Wilson, and TM Stealth HD in mind.  Does anyone have experience with those so far?

I game a TM 7 ( not the Stealth) and love it. Great off the tee on tight holes or  off the deck. Just as long or longer than a M2 five wood. Ventus blue shaft

Not a question for this group, of course try it.  I will always have a 7 w in my bag.

My #1 favorite spot for using my seven wood is on two holes (one a par 5 and the other the longest par 4 on the course) when I need a longer club and have a downhill lie and need to get the ball to carry over water.  I find the 7 wood so much more reliable for getting the ball up in the air on a downhill lie than I did my 21 degree hybrid or do my 5 wood.  Love the club.

Been in a similar situation as OP towards the end of last season, 21* and 24* hybrid and while I loved 24*, the 21* was inconsistent on good days and terrible on bad ones.

Now I have 21,5* 7 wood in that spot and it's night and day. Carries around 10 yards further than the 21* hybrid, way easier to elevate consistently and gaps really well off my 24* hybrid.

I added or made a tweener club. I missed my older F7 3 wood and wanted to get it back in the bag. Seeings as the spot between my 3 wood and longest iron is an ever revolving door I decided to give the f7 3 wood a try again, but with the weight in the back and lofted up all the way with a 7 wood shaft.

Results so far... maybe one of the most fun clubs I have ever hit.

I have a Callaway Heaven Wood that I can’t seem to find space in my bag for. I hit it pretty well, but I can’t seem to take either my 5 wood or a hybrid out of my bag. I might be able to take my three wood out. I don’t use it off the tee, and I can’t reach the par 5s in two with it.

I also picked up a Cally Heavenwood with a L shaft.  Only hit it a few times on course and mostly sits in garage bag.  Should be able to get to range and give it a good run after the Birds leave.  Most Birds OK but sometimes you’re taking your life in your hands with the constant shanks.

Had a 7 wood fitting today.  Walked in leaning towards Wilson Dynapower, Stealth HD, or Cobra Aerojet, and walked out with a Ping G430.  They were all great clubs, but that Ping had just the right launch and angle of decent.  I tried the 5 wood for fun too and that was surprisingly long.  Cobra was right behind it in length.

If, and that is VERY BIG IF, I somehow win the Cobra challenge then I going to request a 7 wood. I have never gotten along with fairway woods (I have tried multiple 3Ws, two 4Ws and a 5W to no avail) but the 7W could be just the ticket. Higher loft, shorter shaft -- could be my knight in shining....mid launch graphite?

I test hit the ping 9 wood too, and it was TOO long, basically stepping on my 7 wood. The Paradym 9 slots in as a perfect replacement for my 5 iron. Towering height, steep descent angle, and around 4500 rpm’s. This thing will stop on a dime. A perfect blend with my epic max fairway woods. If I was to get a Ping, I would have to replace them all. That would be nice,if I had endless money…

I was always against 5W and 7W for some reason, just always hit 2 or 3 iron, but a few weeks ago picked up a 5w for giggles and it has become my favorite club in the bag! Now I’m toying with the idea of a 7w, then I see this thread… it must mean I have to go get a 7w lol

When I hot them the 425 VS the 430 Ping FW the 425 was a little shorter but actually seemed more forgiving and accurate to ME.  Maybe the 425 would be a perfect fit distance wise and be accurate  along with saving 100 bucks

Now that the season is starting in earnest, reviving this thread...

giving serious consideration to swapping out my 4 iron (24*) with a 7 or 9 wood. I hit my 4 fine but the trajectory is a little low and I'd like to get the ball to stop a little quicker on approach shots.

In perusing the thread seems like Ping is a very popular model. I have a g400 hybrid I picked up cheap over the winter and it's been pretty good; this is probably closer to the 7 wood.

Anyone have one they're absolutely in love with? Anyone using a 9 wood?
