What do you use as a Ball Mark and why?

I will start it off. I use a 1993 $10 nuevo peso coin that I found in Mexico. I feel like it brings me good luck on the greens.

marker.jpg

Why do I feel like it gives me luck? Well, I found it on a sandy beach in Mexico while on my honeymoon. I've been married for 16 years and still going strong.

BTW - sorry for putting this in the wrong forum. I've contacted the mods to move it.

First....why is this in the Japanese section?

Secondly....I use several things: US coins, foreign coins, even the plastic ones that peg into the ground. I'm not picky.

Yeah, sorry about the location. I wasn't paying attention to what forum I was in. I contacted the mods and added a note to the post.

I've got some foreign coins that are two colored like that one, and I like to use them since they're easy to see and most people don't have them.

Also, I like to use these coins I ordered just for golf. They are from the Isle of Man, and were most likely only made for people like me to buy but never use. There are two versions:

The second one looks like these cuff links, but they are coins:

this thread got me thinking about an old coin my grandfather got for my when I was a kid... he died about 10 years ago, but I still have the coin... that would make a great ball maker, I just need to find it...

Maybe it fits in the superstition thread, but I like to mark the ball with something that makes me happy to see. Positive mindset for the putt.

The Cammeron markers and alignment tools are cool, but before every putt I would think "How much did this cost? Damn!"

Find that coin. It sounds perfect.

Been moved to The Gadgets!

Tim

By the way I use the year I was born as it would be a great score as well. 1963 Dime and Quarter for the guys that can't see the dime!! LOL . Plus it's pure Silver, the next to last year for our coins to use mostly silver unless penny or nickel. and .50 pieces would just be too big.

I just use wooden ones that are free at some golf courses. I don't know why, but I really hate touching small metal things.

sounds like one of those OCD things. I think everyone has something like that.....either being a neat freak or things have to be a certain order you know?

Found it... a 1990 Jamaican Dollar Coin...

I also found an old buffalo head nickel that I will probably use instead... its not as thick, and it looks really cool since it is so worn down... You can't even see the date, but they stopped making them in 1938, so it's pretty old...

It's just a weird little thing I have. I don't like tin foil, or the feeling of small metal things. It's a completely irrational dislike, I know, but I can't let it go.

I like the idea of marking with something that makes you happy. Happy putting is good putting.

I feel the same way about ALL expensive ball markers. Some of them are beyond cool looking, but I can't imagine how I'd feel when I left it on the green or it fell out of my pocket.

That's a sweet coin. I like the "National Hero" below the picture. Do you know who that is?

I'm a huge John Wayne fan and I picked up a commemorative coin from the Washington, DC Mint. But, how big is too big for a marker? Its larger than a quarter... probably about the size of a half dollar and a little bit thinner.

Do you guys think that would be OK? What's proper etiquette when it comes to markers?

I personally don't like large markers because IF there were ever a time that someone's marker is in your line, you want it as small and unobtrusive as possible, so I think of that when I choose mine...

Use it. I have a big Chinese dragon coin that I break out sometimes (son born in year of the dragon). If it is on a line for someone, just mark it 1 grip length left or right. Same thing you would do with a smaller coin.

The Duke marker would be cool. Free license to mimic voice.

Under the rules you could mark your ball with a house if you wanted, but it would be hard to move if it was in the way. So as long as you could move it out of the way for someone, it seems fine to me.

I just picked up a really cool looking poker chip that I'm gonna use some. Yeah..it's big, but I can either move it to the side or in a pinch use something else if it's too distracting to some Persnickity Pete.

Many courses are even offering these as souvenirs at the counter. I have a nice one for US Open 2010. Big and coin like.

Remember also, if you are away, no one will ask you to move your marker.

Yeah, I've seen those. I guess if people are starting to use those monsters then I'm good to go with the Duke. I also picked up a Spur bag tag at a course outside of Phoenix when I lived there so I could go for the whole western theme at some point.

I have learned to putt well because I can't chip well. GIR is what a small lion says.

I'm the same way... last year my goal was to work on putting, and I got a lot better, but I would much rather start 20 feet from the pin than 50
