After standing around for 1 1/2 hours due to a fog delay we finally got off at 10:30. The course was packed with guys waiting from 7:30 on. I played reasonably well on the front carded a 43 but folded like a cheap suit on the back with a 50. I don't particularly like this back 9 and we generally only play it on Fridays.  But because it was so backed up they were releasing the guys on all 3 of the 9's today.  Will see what happens on Friday - I've got to get this Falcon course gremlin out of my head.

If I could do something wrong today, I did.  Drives everywhere, chips sculled across the green.  But it was great weather, 57* - 82*.

Lots of wind and rain last night definitely softened up the course today BUT, I couldn't have asked for better weather. High about 70* and almost no wind. Played from the tips to bump up the difficulty a bit with the wind gone and man was it fun today. I was playing around with some irons at Golf Galaxy during lunch and I think once I find something I can spin up a little better or at least get to fall a little softer on the greens (really looking hard at some T100 or T200), I'm going to be killing it.

I just need to knock off 1 more stroke to hit my score goal for the year! I can feel it, I'm close.

Long drive today was a little inhibited by no wind and less dry conditions. Plus, I can't cut the corner on #5 from the back in order to get that big rollout down the hill. Nevertheless, I ripped one on 11 that just wouldn't quite turn over. If I could have got it just a bit more right, I'd be putting for eagle. Almost chipped it in but was a couple feet short. Still saved the birdie though so I'm not too upset.

I'm hoping to put in a handful of rounds this week. Spring is here - for now at least and it should be great golf weather.

Plus, when I was 5 the first ball I ever hit on a golf course went in the hole, so I have that going for me.

Dilemma: this is off season so all competitions are non qualifiers I.e don’t get recorded as WHS scores. Back home we have a competition where we informally play off an adjusted handicap. At the moment with a slope rating of 106 that is 5. I’m now on holiday and played yesterday at Golf del Sur, SR = 130 which off my official WHS h/c gives me 9. Feel a bit of a fraud claiming 5 back home and jumping to 9 yesterday. I’ll leave to @Golfspy_TCBto decide the solution.

The combination of being sick and visitors, I only have gotten out once this week.  I had a strange 85.

image.png.c54f70dc7b26654379f5cd7758c72aa3.png

Strange in that it was 86/39.  Strange in that I had my first three putt of 2023 on the front nine, then my second on the back!  Finally, strange in that on the back, my pitch and chipping shots were on fire.  I had seven one putt greens all due to great chips.

Still struggling with the draw settings on the replacement G425 SFT driver.  I'm doing my best to correct my tendency to draw the driver too much.   Still about 2 or 3 less fairways hit during a round.  Good news is that mid-next week I'm off to America (driving up the Keys to the mainland) to be fitted for a replacement G430!

If anyone watched the API yesterday morning you'd be able to understand our weather a bit better. We played in 25-31 mph winds. And it seemed like it was a headwind on every hole. At one point I went up 3 clubs on my approach shots and they still ended up short. Don't even talk about putting - I never imagined the wind would have that kind of affect on putts.

Oh well - weather is better today and hopefully so will the score.

Another consecutive round with a fair front and great back nine.  I shot 44/38 with six net birdies (five of which on the back nine).  We were the first off this morning and I had no time to warm up.  My putting showed it.  I had another three putt which is surprising for me.  image.png.bf8bfcddca41d151eafe51fc21f7dc6a.png

I hit double the number of greens in regulation today that I normally hit in a round.   I drove the better today as I've learned how to correct for the G425 SFT.  Again, most misses are left (for this right hander).   Next Wednesday I'm fitted for a G430 and I can't wait.

Hopefully next week I can put together a better front with the one of my last back nines.

Well the wind was supposed to die off early afternoon - I don't think they told the weather Gods that. Not sure of the exact range but they were definitely blowing mid 20's and in our face a good portion of the front 9. My drive on #1 was only 170+, it dropped out of the sky like a lead balloon but I still got to make a birdie on that hole. Keeping the drives low was a struggle but overall it was a good day for driving and putting.

Weather was cold for my taste, grounds were still playing like February but I gave myself very little in terms of winter rules. I made the turn at +7 which is good for me, with a penalty on a drive on #7 that needed 2 more yards to clear a creek and be on the front apron with an uphill eagle putt. The back 9 was unkind and I started pulling my driver left on hole 13 leaving tree adventures for my 2nd shots. I hit my best drive of the day on 18, so I took that away as a positive that I fixed whatever that was before I was finished.

Rained early, I went out twighlight at 1pm as the only reservation. Waterlogged in parts of the course and using a new putter for the first time (43 putts! 43!) I felt I played better than I scored.

A great start followed by a poor back 9. 4 better than handicap after 5 holes (2 under par) then reality kicked in.

Triple and double on the 2 par 3's on the back 9 really hurt.

Beautiful day, 69* - 86*. Driver was bombing today. FIR: 12/14 86% GIR: 9/18 50% and 39 putts. Driver on #1 Hcp hole #8 was a draw. I thought it was going OB but we found it had bounced then rolled down the cart path….246 yard drive! I had 80 yards to the pin so I hit my 53* wedge within 8 ft to make the putt and birdie.

Wish I could have posted today's score.  Mixed couples 18 hole scramble - gross score only.  Our 4some took 2nd place in our flight with a 65,  1 off the leaders. It was an interesting tournament since men and women had to play off the same tees. Forward tees for par 5's, next back for par 4's and 2 back for par 3's. We each had to play at least one of the tee boxes = par 3,4,&5's. Being on the 3 forward tees really messed with the guys (me) and course management and the ladies got a look at what we face as well. FYI my wife and I are on the right in the pic.

Not great, but closer to normal.  However, the new swing mechanics seems to be working out.  No new great advance on distance yet, but much more consistent strikes and closer to target line.  More towards draws vs. fades or pulls.  A few great drives and only cursed using my driver a few times this day out.  4 wood was clicking nicely and closing the gap as one would hope.  A greatly reduced number of mishits for me, and it showed in strokes gained.

Putting was terrible, and easily demonstrated on the SG graph above.  The holes were placed in their toughest locations possible and the greens were much faster than usual.  Took a while to get used to the speed and unexpected breaks for this course.  Also, was over caffeinated and under fed going into the round leading to quite a bit of yips.  Near missed chips lead to near missed U/D putts, which lead to continuing the cycle.

Fun shot on #9.  This was a result of my second stroke, this with the 4 wood.  Should have been within range for GIR, but...

Windy today but was able to get a full 18 in. Tried to go for another crazy long drive on 5 again since I had the wind behind me but got burned. Caught it off the toe and left it a bit open. It looked great if I was actually aiming down the fairway instead of across the corner. Anyways, was still able to recover that hole but definitely wasn't getting on in 2 for a look at eagle today. Let's be honest though, I don't think I've ever had an eagle on that hole - never close enough on that first putt.

On a better note, 18 was by far my best hole. Longest drive, had a chance at actually making eagle but just misread the putt by about an inch, still walked off with a birdie.

Sorry that I was slow to see this post Alf.

That is a dilemma for sure.  Since we are an honor based group here, and in absence of an up-to-date WHS index for the reasons you mentioned above, I would suggest estimating your current index for use in the off season.  Now, obviously, a 130 is much more difficult than a 106 slope, so I would expect some increase in course handicap to compensate for that.  Having said that, if you feel 9 is too high for Del Sur, adjusting it by a couple of strokes to better reflect your current play (especially adversely) would be reasonable.

Now... ALL that said... you scored a great round, and even if you were to manually shave your index by a couple of stroke, you would still be at -3 for the week and sitting on top of our leaderboard... so I'm comfortable with crowning your round as this week's winner (however, if you feel an even lower course handicap should be used based on your recent scoring, and the net score should be adjusted to -2 or higher, I will make the changes in the weekly results.

Thanks for the question Alf, and again sorry for my slow response.

Tim.

I have two holes on my course with similar "opportunities" when the wind blows.  I hate wasting them by putting a "big" swing and missing the sweetspot.  Why don't I just take my normal swing and let the wind work with me??  of course... I'm usually hoping to roll out to 270... so nothing that you would consider "big" haha.

MYGOLFSPY FORUM MEMBER WEEKLY VIRTUAL CHAMPIONSHIP TOUR

==================================================

WEEK 23 FINAL RESULTS

Good morning All!!  The results for this week's Virtual Tour are in and looks like some really solid rounds were posted this week.  Lots of great scores, net birdies and long drives recorded.

Week 22 Winners:

Low Net Score

image.png

image.png

This week we had 5 rounds posted below net par with the leader at 5 under (-5).

@Alf. S led the way with his score of gross 76/net 67 for -5 net score to par at Golf Del Sur.  Great playing Alf!!  Closely behind at net 2 under were @Golf2Much and @tony@CIC, with @snicerz and @Peaksy68ties for 3rd with net -1 scores.

Most Net Birdies or Better

image.png  image.png

LOTS of birdies this week.

Two tied at 8 net birdies or better this week:  @fozcycle and @PeterHenric both carded 8 birdie points.  While @Alf. S, @Mr. Mushball, @Golf2Much, and @Peaksy68all posted 6 birdies or better.

319, 307, 305, 305... I blame the new ball technology 🤣.. just kidding, our resident big hitters were on display again this week.  @snicerzbombed this week's winner at 317 yards.  @PeterHenric, and @daviddvm were just behind in the "over 300" club.

Great playing everyone, see you in Week 24!!

The handicap convienor back home says my informal winter handicap is 6 dead which would give me 7 at Golf del Sur so if you can alter my score I think that would be best.
