Ok gang, I crammed the last 3 holes in. So dark on 18 Arccos stopped working so I had to manually track my shots. Went Bogey, Bogey, Par and just set a new career low. Gotta have an asterisk cause it was a couple days apart but still….your boy just shot a 91. I didn’t have anyone to witness with me tonight so I understand if there’s doubt, but I am an honest dude. Scorecard screenshot incoming from Arccos.

Had to make an edit, Arccos missed one of my wedges on 17 due to darkness I’m assuming lol so it was a 91. I thought one was missing

Posting in two photos as I can’t get all 18 in one pic on my phone screen in the app. 42 on the back 9 which is a MASSIVE career low. Insane that it was with woods and wedges. I tried swinging with a more smooth tempo on drives tonight with these three holes and hit GOOD tee shots on every hole. 230-240, but not in the trees and very playable. On 18, sank a 15’ putt for par, too dark to read the green so I guessed and it worked . Still amazed that I was able to card that low on the back 9. Again, put an asterisk on it because it wasn’t 18 consecutive, but for what it’s worth, I was playing well on the back 9 Tuesday. Real time test will be 18 consecutive this weekend. Still pretty proud of myself.

Handicap is currently at 26.1, so this is either an outlier or a score I maybe am capable of playing at which will bring my handicap down considerably if I can keep it up. Which is what I want!

Those of you posting great scores while excluding irons, does that change anything for you when you go back to using a full bag?

Not going to lie, it’s making me seriously consider taking a lay up approach on par 4s if I hit a short tee shot. I’m very confident I can 2 putt or better on every hole unless I have to cover the entire length of the green. As I am taking the break 90 approach, I can afford an extra stroke on non par 5s. I’ve never hit long irons well, so when I have the full bag in play I will most likely be doing some experimenting. 

I had never SNIFFED 90 until this last combined round***, so it’s definitely got me thinking about things differently.

... This is called "Burying The Lede".   But here are my thoughts about this most awesome Cobra challenge:

1. I am playing the best golf I have played in years and the challenge is playing a big role in this recent run.

2. Pushed a tee shot with a slight fade into another fairway but had a clear shot through the trees to get it back in play. Then did it again on the back 9 and had a clear shot to the green. 2 worst drives both ended up with birdies. I hit every other fairway and a few really long drives for me. The Aerojet can be seriously long. 

3. I can't hit a fairway wood off the fairway and better than these Aerojets. TM Sim2 is longer off the tee by a little but from the fairway I have never hit the ball as well as I have with these Cobra's. 486yd par 5 uphill and on in two with my 5 wood. 

4. I still don't like the wedges.   Thankfully I seem to be in the minority as most everyone else loves theirs. Whew! 

... So now the lead: I tied my career best round with a 66 today. Ya know how we say "I left a few shots out there or the score could be lower?" I didn't do that. I had a 25' eagle putt on 17 and a 15 foot birdie putt on 18 that just missed on the high side and curled around the hole, but I would not call either of those "should have made puts". Had I made either I would have shot a 65 and my career low round. Other than that, I hit most everything about as well as I can. But there is the catch. I played the forward tees or the Senior tees and although I am 70 they are about 600yds shorter than the tees I normally play. But oh my what fun it was from 5759 yards!!! One of my pards today asked "You hit it farther than I do, so why are you playing the senior tees?" and my reply was "You should see where CFredo   plays from!" 

... After shooting two 70's I was excited to enter my 66 in the VT ... but after course calculations with my 1.3 handicap the course rating is -4 ... so for the purpose of this challenge using the VT scoring ... I shot another 70!

Love it! It's awesome that going out and playing a bit unorthodox a time or two already has you on the verge of breaking 90. I like the layup approach and should probably adopt it myself on certain holes, especially when the Shia LaBeouf "JUST DO IT" mentality kicks in and gets me in trouble

... Great question! I think I already said hitting partial swings with my hybrid forced me to relax and made me realize how much I was needlessly tense protecting my back. Interesting to just flight down a 19* hy from 185 when I would normally be hitting a high trajectory 5 iron. The other thing is it has really improved my full wedge play. At 70 I usually still play around 6500-6700 yd courses and I don't have a ton of full wedge shots. My winter course is only 6403 but quite a few long and uphill par 4's and again not a lot of full wedges, so this challenge has been a real blessing in disguise.

If I am lucky maybe get 9 in today, but more likely I'll have to pass on this week

I saw @chisag’s post for this competition earlier in the week, but I have not yet seen the others … I challenge @Tom the Golf Nut for this week’s competition. Let’s go kid!  

Walked Charleston National and played a tee forward at the gold tees, my typical course handicap from the white/member tees is 17, and The Grint had me at 12 from the gold. 

Started on the 10th … out for 43 and in for 37, at 80 total … net 68. Longest drive was 278. And it’s frustrating to think that I should’ve been lower, yes, I said that, LOL, it should’ve been lower. Had an incredibly stupid 3 putt, missed 3 separate putts that were inside 4ft and my bunker wedge game had the yips for two consecutive holes. But man how I miss these competitions and formats … had a great time today. 

 

My overall game has been singing as of late … checked my handicap index this morning and it dropped from 14.4 last night, to 13.6 this morning.

Quick write-up on round:

Overall, great day on my local executive course (par 61).  I know, I know...a woods challenge on a short course?  Crazy right?  On the longer par 3s, my strategy was to simply lay-up my 48° and lean on my short game / putting (vs trying to manufacture a half / choked up hybrid shot).  

Equipment write-up coming later this week, but I'm in love with the Aerojet woods...they are just too easy to hit stupid far.  Case in point, my longest "drive" was actually a 3W on the par 4 2nd, where I drove the ball ~240 yards to rest right off the green.  

Also including shot of signed scorecard with my playing partner (Victor) and a short vid of me teeing off the 3W to draw off a tee on the number 11.  

 

 

Finally found the post that @chisag was getting all heated about … and @CFreddie, this comes from a good place, but, *silent pause for dramatics* … come on man!  

But hey, you play to win the game … hello!

Seeing the great scores from @chisag @CFreddie @Jnoble89 and @sirchunksalot has me thinking that Cobra really did a hell of a job on their clubs for their 50th anniversary.  These clubs might actually be magical.

It looks like the heat from @chisag's early stellar performance has cooled off significantly as more of our #Cobra50MemberSpecial competitors have started posting scores.
