... Oh, it will never be completely over. 😉  I loved a visor in my ignorant youth while I had a thick head of hair to protect me from the sun that wasn't all that strong in Chicago anyway. But the Phoenix sun is very intense in comparison and a sun hat with a wide brim is a necessity. So no visors for me, but:

Just wanted to pop in here again and say how awesome the AJ is!

I've only played one or two rounds since receiving it, but I have a tournament Friday so I went out earlier for a little bit to just hit a few and I still can't get over how great it is.

So yeah.. that's it, that is all. Might be my favorite driver I've ever owned.

... Awesome to hear! 🤩 I gave mine to my 81 yr old playing pard and I installed a 45gm NVS sr flex shaft. He has added 10 yds compared to his Ping G Driver. Those 10 yds means he can reach the longer par 4's in 2 again!

I'm glad to hear it's working out great for you! Cobra makes an awesome and what I would consider an underrated driver. I honestly think people should add them to their list when getting fitted for a new one.

... I do think most members on golf forums know Cobra has been making awesome drivers for years now. But completely agree with you, the general golfing public still seems to be pretty ignorant of this fact. Many golf stores not featuring Cobra doesn't help. When I went to a PGA SS to get some numbers so I could order the right Aerojet driver head, the sales guy was kinda excited because I was the first person he fit for a Cobra driver! 🙄

This is the big one. I think a lot of people get caught up in the marketing buzz around brands like TaylorMade and Callaway and just go with what they see on TV. It's tough to try and convince the general public to try out the "lesser" brands, even if they have some decent knowledge of equipment. I could also say I don't know how many times I've basically face palmed myself talking to people at work about needing to be properly fit.

I can say getting fit for this challenge made a huge difference to my game.

I could also say I don't know how many times I've basically face palmed myself talking to people at work about needing to be properly fit.

I can say getting fit for this challenge made a huge difference to my game.

... My fitting was an eye opener for me when I was playing a Cobra driver back In Chicago and would hit some bombs but also drives that just didn't carry far enough. The Cobra Xtreme was spinning about 1900 so teeing it high and catching it just perfect resulted in those bombs, but anything less than perfect and the lack of spin was causing the ball to drop out off the sky. He tried several drivers and the Taylor Made was spinning around 2500 and on average I gained about 15 yards. 😳

... The irony was I had switched from thee SLDR that spun less than the Xtreme but didn't realize TM's newer drivers were the direct result of the unforgiving low spin SLDR. And I was very knowledgable going to the PGA Show every year but at that time "High Launch, Low Spin" that every OEM claimed produced the best results.

... Thanks  to my last fittings with Callaway, Titleist and Taylor Made last spring I am in just about a perfect fit for my swing. I would have never looked at the Stealth2 HD with a $350 Ventus Red Velocore but my fitting showed it to be a clear winner. I have so much confidence in my driving right now it's a little scary. I really don't know why anyone that is even semi serious about their game would not get fit, especially with so many OEMs offering free demo days OR most golf stores offering a free fitting on their indoor launch monitors.

  • 2 weeks later...

... I played my home course's par 3 today. (Or a @CFreddie full length course) Never played it before. Only brought my Cobra King Tour irons and MG3 wedges. We played the back of every tee box so all hoes are about 10yds longer than he scorecard. I missed 5 greens in 27 holes. The Cobra irons were as good as it gets with 1 bogie and 7 birdies. I normally don't like par 3's on regulation courses so I need to change my attitude and embrace them. I just can't imagine better irons than these Cobra's. Equal? Sure but the King Tours should be on every demo list of anyone looking for some Players Irons.

... My 81 yr old pard held his own as well and other than a few serious miss hits, he was striking the ball well. $13 and you can play it as many times as you like. First 9 went smooth with a little waiting, second 9 had a lot of waiting and the 3rd 9 had none. I might have to do this more often.

Awesome that you have a par 3 course - always a blast to take a smaller bag in a more relaxed setting. Great score @chisag!

... Thanks Freddie. I have never really liked par 3's and obviously that isn't the best attitude. I have to admit I really enjoyed playing it when every hole is a par 3. I hope to carry my new attitude to the course and start thinking "Oh Boy. A Par 3!" when I play them in the future.

Great scoring for both you and your pard, Sam! I find par 3's to be the hardest holes to score well on and you made it look pretty easy.

We used to have a par 3 course around here about 25 years ago and I played it once. It was a goat track and basically a course someone mowed into their field. The greens were horrible, but it was fun. I don't know if it's still around, but I can't find it on Google and don't remember how to get there.

  • 3 weeks later...

I just wanted to update on this thread as I was finally able to get out and play for the first time since the end of July and haven't practiced in a couple of months.

The Aerojet Max driver is so forgiving and easy to hit. While I wasn't driving the ball as long as I did earlier in the season on the front it was still putting me in playable positions off the tee. I did just completely yank one left off the sixth and that was more on me than the driver. Once I freed myself up to actually go at the ball on the back, I was seeing more distance and actually playing better. I don't think I hit a bad drive at all on the back as I'm going through the shots in my head.

The fairway woods were the stars of the show yesterday. Again, I wasn't hitting anything too well on the front, but once I got to the back I hit some very good shots. The ones that stand out most in my mind was the 3 wood I hit on the 15th that almost hit the green on a longer par 4 that I've never hit the green on. I hit a 5 wood on my second shot on the par 5 18th that left me 96 out for my third. The ball just sailed and had a nice little fade that poor me in prime position.

The hybrids are still some of my favorite clubs in the bag. I can't say I hit them perfectly as I was having problems with ground contact and rushing from the top leading to some pulls and tops. I blame a lack of practice.

I had some more contact issues with the longer irons, but the 9-GW were money. I think I was rushing from the top again and with a little reminder that speed should peak after contact, it'll all be good. The Forged Tec X are so forgiving for players distance irons.

The SnakeBite wedges flat out shined yesterday. I expected to have problems with distance control but they put me in good positions on the green. I wasn't knocking down pins, but was giving myself some good looks to 2 putt.

The Agera was probably the best I have seen since putting it in the bag. I didn't make any long putts, but didn't miss many short ones. It wasn't perfect, but neither was I. The greens were slick and I did run a couple a good bit past the hole.

So good to hear that you were able to get back out on the course, Jason! I am hoping to get one final round in this coming week Thursday before the course closes for the season on Sunday. Planning on doing a season wrap up on club performance once outdoor season is finished!

Congrats on getting back out again! That’s always great to hear! Even sounds like you were able to get a full bag test in during the round. I played 18 on Friday and didn’t use my 5W, 7i, 8i or 58*.

Now that you mention it, I think the only club I didn't use was my 8 iron. I didn't get the 3 wood or 58° much but I did use them.

Wanted to throw in a little end of 2023 post regarding my bag with the Cobra Challenge in the rearview. First off, as I've said multiple times, it was just a blast to participate in this challenge and an honor to join the cobra alumni from challenges past. I can't thank the Mod Staff enough, particularly @GolfSpy BOS, for all the work he did on this thing to make it an awesome test to be a part of. I currently stand with Cobra clubs dominating most slots in my bag, as both fairway woods, the hybrid, irons and wedges have all stuck and have spots secured going into 2024. Driver, for the time being, I have gone back to my TSi3. It's not to say the Aerojet Max didn't perform well because it absolutely did, especially towards the end of my golf season. It'll still mix into the bag for sure in 2024. The putter, however, is out of the running as the Scotty is just too good. The 3D Supernova wasn't a bad putter by any means, I just never found consistency with it. The head weight was too light for my liking.

I do not see the 3 wood or 7 wood AJ Max leaving my bag any time soon. I genuinely love hitting both clubs and the performance has been awesome. I can hit a nice draw with each club, and when I am swinging well it is almost on demand with the 7 wood. It has made one of my least favorite tee shots on my home course much less daunting. The 3 wood is a rocket launcher, as has been stated throughout this thread, and I can get nearly 250 yards of total distance with it off the tee on well struck shots. Off the deck on a good strike is in the 230s.

The hybrid is also a fantastic club that is easy to launch and easy to turn into a nice little draw. I struggle a bit with consistency with it, but when it is clicking, it is fantastic.

The Aerojet irons fit where my game is currently at so well in terms of forgiveness. I do not always find the center with irons, and slight mishits still fly very, very well. I can hold greens on approach with every iron including the 6, and that has been awesome in terms of my scoring. I will eventually move to a players distance type iron, but I am very happy with these right now. Feel is great, sound is great, and really glad I have them in the bag.

The snakebite wedges took some time to get warmed up to, but once I did, performance rocked. In short, I love these clubs. They look great, I like the feel on well struck shots, and love what the 60* wedge has done for my confidence in bunker saves. I still get too cute with it time to time around the green because the idea of hitting a sweet flop shot is too tempting lol. I have executed some great shots with it, though, that I would not have been able to hit without it. Looking forward to continuing dialing in my feel with them in 2024!

Great wrap up Jason @Jnoble89. I was going to work on mine as well. But since you put the pressure on here goes:

Shout out to the Forum Staff and Cobra for getting this all together. I got stretched a little thin toward the end with work, travel, and tournament season trying to get rounds in, but I would do it all over again. It was a blast.

Driver: This did not perform as well as my TSI 1.  I keep on giving it a round once a month or so, but the TSI 1 is just more consistent. I'll give it another round or two over the winter and you just might see it up for Re-Test in the spring.

3, wood, 5, wood, 7 wood: They are staying in the bag. At first the 3 wood was just ok but the 5 and 7 were stellar. But I got the 3-wood figured out over the last month. But it really wasn't an issue since I hit my driver well even on tight holes and don't get in trouble, so all I needed was the 5- wood. But the 3-wood has put me on some par 5's in two lately. The 5 and 7 just flat out go straight where I want it. Good height and good trajectory. Keepers

5 Hybrid: I never got along with hybrids until now. The King Tech has made me a believer. This clubs gets a workout and even gave me an eagle on a par 4 last week. Keeper for sure.

Irons: King Tours were playing well for me especially the scoring clubs. (Gap, PW and 9 irons) I have been having minor issues with the 8, 7, & 6 lately. I seem to lose some distance and my ball striking is just a little toward the toe (thus distance loss). I put my Sub 70 699 Pro's in play for the 8, 7 & 6 and the problem goes away. Not sure if it is due to the smaller lighter head and graphite in the Tours or what. I think I will put graphite in the 699's and see what happens.  They are currently steel, stiff and +1/4" where the Tours are graphite, regular, +1/2. I tried some lead tape, but it didn't have much effect. I think I would have been more suited for a mixed set. Getting a little more forgiveness toward the upper end would be good. But I'm open to experimenting over the winter.

5 Hybrid: I never got along with hybrids until now. The King Tech has made me a believer. Staying in the bag. I even had an eagle on a par 4 last week with this club from 165 yard out, slight uphill. One bounce and up on the green and rolled in the cup.

Wedges, Snake Bite 54 and 60: Right out of the box these performed great. Probably my favorite wedges and I've had a bunch. Surprising that I had no issues adjusting to the look of a full groove face on the 60*. It allows you to open it up and you know you're going to get spin even on a slight miss hit. Both work great out of the sand and off the fairway. Even in a tight lie the sole works well.

Putter: I thought it would take a lot to remove my Odyssey Marksman Fang from play, but the Agera did a great job of proving me wrong. I have more confidence in the 10 to 15' range. Frankly making more of these. Not sure if it's the balance or the SIK Face technology. But it's working and staying in the bag. Just wish the head cover was magnetic closure.

Bag: Let's not forget the bag. I got the cart bag as I walk with an electric cart most rounds. It's just a darn good bag with all the pockets in the right location, magnetic closure range finder pocket and a 14-way top (my preference). Just wish they were full length dividers. But I have had it in play from the start and it's staying in play.

Well, that's the story. A little lengthy but I wanted to give you all the nitty gritty.
