Jnoble89
I recently received a pair of the latest FootJoy Hyperflex BOA as a warranty replacement for the prior iteration of the Hyperflex. I will be posting my thoughts on them in an unofficial review using this thread. More photos and initial thoughts to come later this evening! Ben Joest
I’ve been using the previous seasons version of the hyper flex boa this season Overall, I like them but I have one quibble. I have a medium width foot and it is a medium width shoe. The shoe has broken in over the course and shoe feels a little loose even with the boa tightened as far as it will go. Beyond that, I’ve walked 18 in them a couple of times and they stay fairly comfortable the entire round. I hope you enjoy your pair and look forward to your coming insights! The biggest knock I had on my previous generation lace up hypers was the lack of lateral foot support on awkward lies. It felt like my foot wanted to slide off the insole. Looks wise, it seems they’ve addressed this with some reinforcing on the new model. They will get a good test starting Thursday. 62 holes of golf in three days! LOVE that colorway, btw! Jnoble89
Alright, a little later than expected on my start of the review for the FJ Hyperflex BOA, but I was cleaning my clubs and getting packed for my trip last night First Impressions: Looks: There is no denying that the look of the FJ Hyperflex BOA is unique. Two large straps wrap the foot via the BOA system, which according to FootJoy "ensures a dialed-in, precision fit with a reduction in pressure on the top of the foot. It enables the shoe to move with you, wrapping your foot for complete security, and providing powerful support through the swing." My biggest gripe with the prior generation Hypers were that I felt they lacked medial and lateral stability on uneven lies. This looks to be improved with this year's version, featuring more lateral support through the middle of the shoe, with an added thermoplastic outsole wing. The FTF+ outsole is also stated to provide "stiffer perimeter support and stability," which I am hoping to find true as it would be a big upgrade over the prior model. I loved the knit, sock like design of the shoe, but I felt as if I was going to slide over the outsole on awkward lies. They also have gotten to feeling loose throughout the shoe over time, which I attribute to the full knit shoe design. I was having to really crank the laces down, which make the top of the shoe somewhat uncomfortable. The toe area of the shoe has also been revamped. It is still a knit material to be sure, but seems to have been covered with a synthetic material to help what I would assume is the waterproofing. I am hoping this does not sacrifice some breathability that made the previous Hypers so attractive to me. Time will tell as I wear the shoe. Comfort: I played 4 holes in these shoes yesterday before getting called back to work, and in typical FJ fashion, comfort is next level. The BOA system paired with a sock like upper around the ankle makes this shoe incredibly simple to put on, just slide your foot in, a few clicks of the wheel to your preferred fit, and you're ready to go. I also realized just how much support and cushioning I have lost with my prior pair when putting these on. The Ortholite® Impressions FitBed® insole is no joke, and the Stratofoam midsole adds another layer of cushion. All day comfort will be put to the test on Friday this week, as I will be playing 18 in the morning and a 17 hole short course in the evening. More to come as I play through the weekend! Shinnman
I have the Footjoy Hyperflex Carbon. Most comfortable golf shoe I have ever worn out of the box. I’m on 40+ rounds in them and they are still by far the most comfortable shoe I have ever worn. They are 100% waterproof and stable. I have replaced the spikes once. Would highly recommend this shoe to everyone. Shinnman
I play 6:45-7:30am rounds as well. Absolutely need that waterproofing. Would think new model is better at it than the old. Jnoble89
After putting 36 holes on the new Hyperflexes this past weekend, I've got a few takeaways. 1. Breathability of the shoe is not lost, even with the new design that encases the knit portion of the toe area. This was one of my biggest concerns, so really happy with that. Feet were not excessively hot or more sweaty than normal. 2. Comfort is king, and FootJoy is just so good with making a comfortable shoe. Zero break in time required. One thing I did notice, though, was that the feel with the BOA style straps is certainly different compared to a lace up shoe. Stayed snug throughout the round, which was great, but you can almost feel a slight pressure point where the shoe creases at the lateral strap. Not uncomfortable, but I did notice it when compared to a traditional lace-up shoe. 3. They were super stable on uneven lies and in bunkers. Big win here as my foot didn't feel like it was "sliding" around which is a feel I would get on those types of lies with the prior generation. 4. Ease of the on/off process with BOA rocks. I was in my shoes and ready to go while my playing partners were still lacing up. Huge deal? Not necessarily, but I liked that aspect. If you're scrambling to a tee time after getting stuck at the office, it definitely saves you some time. 5. We had some dew on our Friday tee time, and as expected since they are brand new, waterproofing was excellent. It beaded up and I would have been able to just wipe dry with a towel. I will continue to comment on comfort over time as well as durability, but so far so good. mywong23
I have older version of Hyperflex - maybe a '2' ??? I still like them a LOT. Few years ago, I had developed a slight bunion on side of right foot big toe. Had played 4 out of 5 days wearing DryJoys. Had to buy the Hyperflex in the wide width for fit. no complaints at all. ------------------ Recently bought a pair of Tour Joys (wide width). They seem to be ok. Think the Hyperflexes are more comfortable (but the Tour Joys aren't fully broken in yet). Wish the bunion would recede... Was thinking of trying the Squairz, but they weren't offered in wide widths.... Happy golfing to all.... Owengeorge13
I like to go on Zappos/Amazon and find previous season styles for 1/3 the price. I’m wearing 2020 tour x boa I bought this April for $68. Vegan_Golfer_PNW and Jnoble89
Jnoble89
Just adding in a little update on the BOA Hypers. Played 9 last week Friday, got out yesterday evening and again today later this evening. branpalm25
I recently got a pair of the hyperflex carbons and they might be the best golf shoe I have tried. They are super comfortable and keep you feeling grounded and connected throughout your swing. The only draw back in the white ones is that the material of the tongue and ankle are hard to keep clean. Other than that I would definitely buy again. I've had a few pairs of white shoes and they look SO GOOD when clean, but like you said so hard to keep clean! The gray/red combo has worked really well for me, but I'll always be a sucker for a pair of fresh white kicks!
