What is your go to grip - irons / woods / hybrids?

Lamkin UTX. The best grip I've used. My last set lasted nearly 3 years and were still tacky. I have since installed a set of Align grips to test. The jury is still out on them.

Incredible recovery shots are set up by an equally incredible miss.

The GripMaster, The Master, on all clubs. Tremendous tack and durability!  I have had these grips on my two sets of clubs for 2 plus years and no visible wear yet. Wipe down after a few rounds and they are ready to go again, just like new. Initially, they are expensive but more than recover their cost(s) over the years. I have sampled their other lines as well (Signature, Roo, Kidd, & Swinger) and all are excellent. I settled on the Master as it felt a bit more firm than the others mentioned.

Tour velvet is the one I keep coming back to. I’ve tried cords and mcc and others but never go outside the box for too long. Tour velvet is just too good.

For years I would only play the crossline cords, then my hookup for them retired and I wasnt paying the hefty price.  Now I play the Golf Pride MCCs on all woods and irons, wedges.  Just regripped and ready for the season to officially start up here in the Chicagoland.

I prefer the GP Z-grip+2 grips with 1 additional wrap on the lower hand. Play them on all full swing clubs. Used to be MCC+4 but the lower hand was never quite right with them.

I am currently in the process of swapping grips. I started out with Lamkin Crossline grips -- they were standard on the set of irons I purchased, and I really like the feel of them. I decided to keep my grips uniform throughout the bag as I filled in my set, so I went Crossline all the way. However, after purchasing a set of ShotScope sensors, I decided to switch, and it's for a (possibly) silly reason: The butt of the grips. The Crosslines have a rounded butt, so the sensors do not sit flush when screwed in. So, I went to my local golf shop, took a look at the grip offerings and decided that Golf Pride MCC Plus4 grips felt nearly the same as the Crosslines, and more importantly, they have a flat butt, so the sensors sit flush with the end of the club.

Golf pride reverse tour wrap. I play about 60 rounds a year and practice about the same amount.  I've had them for 20 years and after a wash with a mild abrasive(comet)they feel brand new and tacky.  They don't wear down or out. They last longer then some of my clubs.

I typically go with the Golf Pride tour velvet Plus4 Midsize. I like a less tapered grip, they are comfortable and best of all not too expensive.

I did also like the Winn dri-tac LT midsize and had them on my wedges and driver for a bit, but I was called an old man and shamed into getting rid of them 😆

I've played GP Tour Wrap mid-size on all for years. SS Tour 3.0 on my putter. As a 40+ year Sarasota, FL resident these grips feel good and have a good 'tack' to them that hold up well in the Summer heat/humidity, and have good durability. I play 2x a week... these grips last for a couple of years.

I have CP2 Midsize grips throughout my entire bag. I find the grip really nice to hold and fits well in my large hands. Also, I find on almost all my clubs, it removes the necessity to wear a glove which I prefer from my 7 iron to my wedges.

Winn mid size Dri-Tac Wraps help me with choking up/down hand placement. They offer comfort for my arthritic hands. Excels are a bit softer, but not as durable. Plus, Butch Harmon endorses Winn, so there's that ...

I switched to Golf Pride CP2 Pro midsize three years ago. I like the solid feel and tackiness.

I like Winn for the ‘padding,’ but found a SS that’s similar and cheaper. I’ve had SS 3.0 putter grip forever!

What are your go to grips for your clubs (non putter)?  Are they the same through the bag or different for woods / irons / hybrids / wedges?  Is your choice driven by color, feel, size, price or longevity?  Or is it whatever the guy at the shop decided to put on for you?

I make sure that I have the same grips throughout the various sections of the set (i.e., same grips for irons 4i-PW, but they can be different than the grips on the wedges which are themselves identical).

I like everything that is corded and dark in color. It usually gets very warm with high humidity indices in my area so having a corded grip helps a little bit in that aspect. The darker colors help in maintaining the grip looking clean/relatively new IMO.

My go-to grips are Golf Pride Z-Grip Cord and Golf Pride MCC+4. I have the stock Lamkin Genesis Cord on my wedges and they're perfectly fine.

I will likely swap out the grips on my irons this year for Golf Pride MCC+4s (Caley 01CB that I got to test last summer. I simply didn't want to scrap brand new grips when I first got the clubs but now they're pretty worned out).

For me, I have tested so many different grips (i.e. Iomic, Golf Pride, Lamkin, Jumbo Max, & Winn), but the one I keep coming back to is SuperStroke. Specifically the Traxion Tour for swing grips and the Zenergy 3.0 for putter. I love the no-taper and I have just always felt they are the best for tackiness and comfort. No matter how many time I change the grip I always seem to come back to Superstroke.

My go to grip for all my clubs is JumboMax 3/8" over size, which I have been successfully using for the past 10 years. JumboMax offers a full line of grips in sizes that will fit just about any size hand.

For many years, my go-to choice for golf grips has always been Golf Pride. However, last year I decided to switch things up and try out the Lamkin UTX cord grips. I have to say, the difference between the two is like night and day. The quality and feel of the UTX grip are simply out of this world. It's like having a new connection between my hands and the club, allowing for a much more comfortable and confident grip. The cord texture of the UTX grip also provides excellent traction, even in wet or humid conditions, which has improved my overall performance on the course. Overall, I couldn't be happier with my decision to switch to the Lamkin UTX cord grips, and I highly recommend them to any golfer looking for an exceptional grip. Also blue is my favorite color so can't go wrong with that from Lamkin UTX Cord grips.

Because I’m a geek I did a Trackman session with two similar wedges, the only difference being the grips. As a 12 handicap, I’m certainly not expecting leaps and bounds better shots with one grip vs another and the numbers backed that up or did they? Pretty much everything was equal but I did have a better angle of attack (and low point) with the UTx grips. But why? Based on my use of the grips on and off the course, in my opinion, the UTx gave me a better feel and thereby greater confidence. So can a grip help you play better? In my experience and opinion, yes.

Good question @Shapotomous!

My go to grip is the Golf Pride Tour Wrap 2G - Jumbo.
However, due to the weight of the jumbo grip, I've had to find lighter grips and really struggling to get the feel & keep the club weight in the right weight range.  I like the feel & durability of the Tour Wrap 2G is much better.
I'm currently trying out the Golf Pride CP2 Medium Grips & building them up close to the jumbo size.  Unfortunately, it doesn't have the same feel & durability.

Currently I mostly have GP Tour Velvet with a Tour Wrap mixed in on one of my wedges; mainly because I've bought them all used. I'm wanting to replace my grips this season and leaning towards the GP Tour Wrap as well. I like the tackiness to them and they feel a little softer than the Tour Velvet.

I'll start....i use standard size GP tour wrap.  They are on all clubs except the 3w which was a used club i bought with a good enough tour velvet.  When it gets a little more wear i will swap in a GP tour wrap there also.   They are the boring black, no bright colors.  I install them myself with the white lettered logo up.

I have used a wide variety over  decades of play - corded, MCC, winn, lamkin, tour velvet, chamois, CP2, & going way back victory and tacki mac.  I come back to the tour wrap grips because i really like the firmness - not too soft or too hard - and the grips last multiple seasons for me.

So, what is the go to grip for the MGS forum community?

I would not use anything but the the Winn oversized Dri Tec wrap grips.  My hands are to big for gloves, I wear a size 20 ring.

That said any kind of cord grips are out.  I need a grip that is soft to the hands.  The Winn Dri Tec wrap grips are amazing.  They are soft to the touch and the wrap grooves give them some extra versatilities.  I know that I can drop my hands down one wrap groove down and take 7 yards off the a shot.  I notice if I am gripping the club to tightly.  They are amazing.  The only draw back is they wear hot spots after about 40 rounds.  I change most of them 2 times a year and my driver & lob wedge 3, my hybrids and fairway woods just once a year.  These grips are also great for older arthritic hands.

I would recommend them to anyone!  In your own size.

After 40 plus years playing golf I have only played a few makers (GP, Avon, Royal, Winn, & Lamkin) and the quality of the grips today are comfortable, tacky, and last quite long.  I remember as a kid having to clean them weekly with soap, water, brush and towel but today it is just wipe off and keep playing.  I used to replace the grips at minimum of once a season, now I have used the same driver grip for 2+ years with no need to replace.  They cost more but last so much longer with good feel.

It sounds as though you’ve never had to change out your grips.

Skip this part if this is nothing new:

For me, it just depends on how old the grips are, compared to how well I’ve kept them clean and how often I’ve used them. If, after cleaning them, your grips still feel the same as when you first bought them, then I suppose it’s fine to keep them.

Are your clubs stored someplace cold in the winter time? Do they feel hard?  Are you gripping your clubs tightly? If so, you might want to check out new grips at the golf store and see how they feel compared to what you currently have.

As for is it worth it to try grips models other than what is currently on your clubs, I guess that depends. I think the baseline is Golf Pride Tour Velvet or Lamkin Crossline. They are usually what you’ll find on stock clubs. I think they’re great. IMO, there’s really no reason to change to something else unless there’s something that’s not working for you that you can trace back to the grip. For example, are your hands often sweaty or dry? Is the weather wet or dry or both? Does your hand or handgrip feel stable during your swing? Answering those kinds of questions might lead you trying a different grip.

It might be a philosophy that might lead you to a grip change. There’s a JumboMax Grip User Group that discusses their reason changing over and their results.

Hope this helps. Sometimes I’m chatty. Well, more than sometimes.

Right now I have JumboMax (JMX) STR8 UltraLite on my Dr, 3w, 5w & 4hy. Graves Golf Single Plane midsize grips on my irons 5i-AW. Golf pride tour velvet standard on my 54* & 58*.

To answer @Goober_golfer’s question, I think it’s all personal preference. I decided to give JMX grips a try because I was having an issue with overdrawing the Dr. It did help, but the bigger help has been that I’m not using as much grip pressure so my swing is more loose, which helps with distance and dispersion.
The Graves Golf grips I decided to put on because my old grips were very slippery and I was making the change to the single plane swing. The wedges I keep in standard grips because I like how it feels like I have more control of the club head.
TL;DR: Basically, it’s all an experiment! 😆

Come check out the JumboMax thread @berkeleybob posted, if you’re interested!

Callaway standard grip on all clubs. I don't wear a glove and while I sweat a lot, my hands don't sweat. We don't have occasion to play in the rain much here in Az. Additionally, buy my grips from Callaway pre-owned cheap. There is a $9.95 shipping charge whether you buy 1 or say 40. So I buy 40. This means I can swap one out at anytime because I have plenty on hand.

I have tried many other grips including Golf Pride but just like the Callaways better.

Driver: Callaway Epic 9 degree, stiff (set at 10 degrees with the movable weight in the center}

FW: Callaway Epic 3,5, heaven wood w/ regular shaft (driver shaft in 3 wood, 3 wood shaft in 5 wood, 5 wood shaft in heaven wood, all three set at neutral plus 1 degree)

Hybrids: Callaway BB19 4,6,7 (4 set at neutral plus 1 degree and 6 and 7 set at neutral minus 1 degree for gapping purposes)

Irons: Callaway Rogue ST Max 8, 9, PW

Wedges: Titleist Vokey SM6 50,54,58

Ball: Titleist Pro V1, 1X, Vice Pro Plus or anything I find that day and try out for the fun of it (I haven't bought balls with my own money in at least 10 years)
