Shapotomous
What are your go to grips for your clubs (non putter)? Are they the same through the bag or different for woods / irons / hybrids / wedges? Is your choice driven by color, feel, size, price or longevity? Or is it whatever the guy at the shop decided to put on for you? I'll start....i use standard size GP tour wrap. They are on all clubs except the 3w which was a used club i bought with a good enough tour velvet. When it gets a little more wear i will swap in a GP tour wrap there also. They are the boring black, no bright colors. I install them myself with the white lettered logo up. I have used a wide variety over decades of play - corded, MCC, winn, lamkin, tour velvet, chamois, CP2, & going way back victory and tacki mac. I come back to the tour wrap grips because i really like the firmness - not too soft or too hard - and the grips last multiple seasons for me. So, what is the go to grip for the MGS forum community? brogies, MIGregB, BallsLeon and 4 others 7 Quote Modern Bag: G410 LST 10.5*, Hzrdus Smoke RDX 6.5 Flex; 915F 3w, Diamana S+ 70 S flex; Snake Eyes 18* 2h, 23* 4h & 27* 5h; JPX 900 Forged 6 - PW, PX LZ 6.0; Edison 2.0 49*, 53*, 57* KBS Tour 120 S; Heppler Fetch; Ball - MTB-X; Bag - Jones MyGolfSpy Edition! Golf2Much
I have a variety of grips on my clubs right now. On my Ping G430 Max HL driver had the stock Lamkin UTx Lite grip. My fairway woods have a midsized GP MCC+4 and a GP CP2 Pro grips. My previous Ping irons had the CP2 Pro grips because they went better with the red graphite shaft graphics. When I got fit for the Paradym X irons for MGS, I went with the GP CP2 wrap grips as the looked better with the blue graphics on the Aldila Ascend graphite shaft. My Edison wedges came with the GP MCC+4 grips which I continued. The only change is for the team-based colors of blue and red to coincide with the Buffalo Bills colors. TSauer
In my irons I've got Tour Velvet Plus4. I am probably going to try some Iomics in my wedges. I've never used them, but have heard great things... plus, they're the only grip that will match my new ferrules. RoverRick
I have used Best Grip Micro-perforated leather grips since 2013. Just think about the steering wheel in your car. A leather wrapped steering wheel makes the entire car feel more premium. This is true of golf grips. Plus the Best Grips Micro-Perfs have a chemical (Pro-Tac) that makes them tackier or stickier as they get wet. People are amazed when I sick it in water and say, “Now feel this”. This makes them ideal for sweat or rain. Plus they last for years. I blow them on with an air compressor and if I get rid of a club, I’ll take them off and put a cheap rubber grip on and move it to the next club. I don’t even have to wear a glove, which means ultimately they save me money. Sadly, just tonight I ordered new grips. JumboMax JMX Ultralight XS Blackouts. I had a couple of these in different sizes to test out. I noticed that part of my swing speed loss was because I didn’t have the strength in my left hand to hold on to the club with a full swing. I put them on my driver, 3w and hybrid last week, and it made huge difference. Today, I couldn’t even close my fingers enough on the mid-size grip, so I bought the JumboMax. This was not a change I wanted to make, but my swing was greatly improved with my “test grip”. Granted, the fingers have never been this bad, but the comfort and speed gains were significant. I’m still a fan of Best Grips but …. It’s time for me to make a change. brogies
I have Golf Pride MCC's on all my clubs except the new s159 wedges that I bought off the rack bc I knew what I needed already. Those have Ping's wedge grips on them and I kinda like the visual aids on them. But when they need replaced, I'll putt MCC's on them. The biggest problem I have with MCC's is my right (lower) hand thumb wears the rubber out very, very quickly. I grip too tightly (former baseball player with popeye forearms) and go through maybe two new grips per season on my driver. Are there any similar stiff grips that are really good with moisture control but would be slightly more durable that I should be trying out? I've wondered if I should just go with Tour Velvet Cord or Z-Cord. I actually like the grip of the top of the MCC grips way more than the rubber on the bottom. AndySP
I’ll chime in as a corded grip user, (except my driver which has a GP tour velvet align), I put Zgrip aligns on all the rest. I used to use MCCs but I liked the top more than the bottom, so when it was time to switch I went looking for something more consistent. I like a firmer and more abrasive grip for some reason. I find the softer grips like Star, iomic and pure to feel great, but “twisty” on full swings. I don’t have a good reason for the different grip on the driver… Shapotomous and brogies 2 Quote g430 lst TS2 20* hybrid, New Level PF-2: P-7; 902: 6-5 hi-toe 51* and 57* M Craft IV
