Cleaning Golf Grips

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone.

I tried looking through past threads, and wasn't able to find anything.

I want to get any trade secrets on grip cleaning. Wondering if anyone has ever used any of the following:

Simple Green

Oxiclean

Windex

I really want to remove the oil, and I want to stay away from Lanolin products.

I appreciate the help.

Lamkin makes a grip cleaning wipe that works really well. If you wanted to do it at home i think just simple soap and water on a paper towel would do the trick

I've seen those, they look good. That might be my direction. Thanks

Dawn dish soap and water, stiff toothbrush.

If its stubborn and doesn't want to come off, a tire cleaner followed by Dawn soap. Wesley's Bleech White or Purple Power wheel and tire cleaner. They're degreasers. Make sure to follow them with a quality dish soap and rinse. You want that stuff off there before using them as you don't want the chemicals on your hands (it won't hurt you through absorption, but if you forget and get a dip or smoke a cigarette or eat something, it could be ingested in a tiny amount. I don't think it'd hurt you but rather be safe than sorry).

I like the wheel and tire cleaners because they're formulated for rubber and won't break the grips down.

Another cleaner I found recently that works well cleaning grips, club heads and everything else is LA's Totally Awesome. It's cheap too. I buy the big bottle of concentrate and mix it 75/25 water to solution. It'll clean anything. I couldn't imagine how well it'd do mixed stronger.

If you're using leather grips, naptha will clean them and bring the tacky back.

In The Bag
Driver: TaylorMade M2 (2017) w/ Project X T1100 HZRDUS Handcrafted 65x
Strong 3 wood: Taylormade M1 15* w/ ProjectX T1100 HZRDUS handcrafted 75x
3 Hybrid: Adams PRO 18* w/ KBS Tour Hybrid S flex tipped 1/2"
4 Hybrid: Adams PRO 20* (bent to 21*) w/ KBS Tour Hybrid S flex tipped 1/2"
4-AW: TaylorMade P770 w/ Dynamic Gold Tour Issue Black Onyx S400

SW: 56* Scratch Tour Dept(CC grooves) w/ Dynamic Gold Spinner
LW: 60* Scratch Tour Department (CC grooves) w/ Dynamic Gold Spinner
XW: 64* Cally XForged Vintage w/ DG X100 8 iron tiger stepped
Putter: Nike Method Prototype 006 at 34"

Have a ton of back-ups in all categories, but there are always 14 clubs in the bag that differ depending on the course and set-up. Bomb and gouge. Yes, I'm a club gigolo.

Great thank you. I like your idea of tire cleaner.

Dawn dish soap and water, stiff toothbrush.

This is what I use since we use Dawn for dishes, pots and pans.

I have used Simple Green in the past - it does a very good job of bringing the tackiness back. I don't use it anymore, as we don't use it around the house and I never think to get any when I'm at the store. :-)

I use a product called Mean Green. If you have Dollar General stores in your area they sell it. The big spray bottles are about $2 and the refill gallon is usually $5 even though I caught the gallons on sale the other day for $3 and I bought the last 3 they had at that store. I use it around my shop in general It cleans grips and clubs good

This.

Any tire cleaner with bleche white is formulated for rubber and is gonna work great. In Canada, the only tire cleaner with bleche white is Simoniz.

Here's a post from a Canadian golf forum with grip cleaning instructions:
