High Launch/ Low Spin

A friend of mine asked me if I knew of any high/mid launch low/lower spin shafts... I am going to do some research, but wanted to ask the community as well. His swing speed is around 113. Any suggestions to research and/or try out?

Graphite Design Tour AD-DI comes to mind very quickly.

A true high launch, low spin shaft if very hard to come by.  More of a mid launch, low spin but also the Kiyoshi Purple.

I'm sure some other will pop in with additional recommendations.

I played the Purple for 2 seasons after being fit for it back in the R11 days. Great shaft and felt very stable. Low spin and a mid to mid/high launch.

Ended up moving away from it to something lower launch and spin.

All Obans are low-mid launch IMO even the Kiyoshi white.

Tell him to spend the money and get properly fit. His shaft might be fine, may just need to tweak the loft on his head a bit.

I had a fitting with a guy the other day who said he didn't really want to buy anything new- got him 25 yards.

High launch and low spin are not really two quantities that make for a happy pairing - especially for someone with a 113mph swing.

Instead, the best option is to seek a comprise between "acceptable" launch versus spin. High enough to hold greens with enough residual spin to compliment the drop and stop the player is looking for, but at the same time, not so much spin to balloon approach shots and rob you of distance.

A tough ask perhaps - but also why a lot of modern hybrids have adjustable loft - a much more reliable way of controlling launch and/or spin.

Be that as it may, I would look into a stable mid launch shaft and take it from there with loft adjustment first, before deciding which way to go. If you like a slightly heavier shaft for more feedback (who wouldn't in their hybrid with a strong swing lol?) then don't overlook steel as an option - the KBS hybrid works well IMO.

I am using a Matrix Ozik White tie (new one); listed as high launch low spin! I believe it too....I am killing it in my tour issue M1.

High launch, low spin are unicorns in shafts. Meaning it doesn't exist. Some high launch shafts will spin a little less but you're not getting high launch and low spin in any package. I'd recommend going and being properly fitted

Have a ton of back-ups in all categories, but there are always 14 clubs in the bag that differ depending on the course and set-up. Bomb and gouge. Yes, I'm a club gigolo.

I think it's important to remember that "low spin" and "high launch" are relative terms.  By this I mean they are in proportion to something else.  In most cases manufactures compare their shaft characteristics to their own product line.  In a perfect world we would have a scale that dictated high, low, mid.  But there are far too many factors that come in to play for this to be a viable option.

  • 2 months later...

... Of course much of this is swing dependent, but one of the highest launching shafts while still producing low spin that I have played is the Rogue Black. More of a mid/highish launch for me but still gives me a good angle of descent and plenty of roll after excellent carry. Similar to the Kai'li with a little better feel imo.

... I have tried a few other "high launch/low spin" shafts like the White Tie and B. Asha but they produce too much spin and while they provide great carry in non windy conditions, roll is very limited. Fyi my ss is only in the 100-103 range with a smooth transition.
