KBS iron shaft in hybrid?

Recommended Posts

I have Bobby Jones 4h with graphite shaft, however, I want to try steel shaft in it.

From my research, it seems that the Bobby Jones hybrid has .350 bore diameter.

Wondering if someone out there can help me out with couple of questions:

1) Would it be possible to use KBS hybrid steel shaft, which as .370 tip diameter into .350?

2) I could save about $12 or so by using KBS Tour black iron shaft with .355 tapered tip?

I like to do the option 2, cause 1) it is cheaper; 2) black shaft would look awesome.

In the past, I made sure tip and bore diameter matched up, however, this is first time considering this option.

Thanks

You can't shim that .370 into it but you could bore the hosel out by hand. If you don't want to do that, I'd give the good folks at KBS a call and see which iron shaft they'd recommend using for the hybrid based on loft. And you'd still have to open the hosel diameter up a hair unless Jesse Ortiz and the gang at BJ left a little slop in the hosel where there would be room for a .355

I bored my Titleist 909H 19 and 21 out to put in KBS Hybrid .370 in them. I love this combination and it was not terribly difficult. Just got some drill bits and went at it.

I am a big believer of having a hybrid at a 0.370 bore hosel, I agree with RB7 and RR that boring them out is a great option. There are some companies that only sell hybrid designed shafts in a 0.370 tip, it would open your options up a lot when shopping for shafts to be fit into. I would be assuming that you are wanting to put the KBS Hybrid shaft into the heads and not really a "iron" shaft? http://kbsgolfshafts.com/shafts/kbs-hybrid

As a side note True Temper does make steel "wood" shafts that are in 0.335 (can be shimmed into a 0.350) and in the 0.350 tip, I am not sure if there is another company actually still making steel "wood" shafts because the standard anymore is graphite. But here is a link if you wanted to buy one and give it a try

This is the True temper trimming instructions for all their shafts you would have to find the steel wood shaft in there for trimming instructions

I might try to increase the bore size to .370" and put the KBS shaft in it...might be the best option.

Thanks all for your inputs.

Just make sure you get a hand reamer and do not put it in a power tool.
