  1. I had a similar opportunity which happened to fall on my twins birthday. I spoke to my wife and the twins as a family and went on the golf trip. They were 8 at the time. Still married, twins still love me and we make other memories together. That being said I felt like crap every day when we were done playing because I wasn’t home. If I had it to do all over again I’d still go on the golf trip.

  2. While I am intent on fitting my on lie angle specs, the following quote is from MGS T. Covey in comments section that I find interesting regarding the F9's.
"How does this relate to lie angles? The answer lies in shaft deflection and droop. The faster you swing a club, the more the toe drops down. As a result, to achieve repeatable dynamic lie angles at impact, static lie angles need to be different (because, as it turns out, head speeds aren’t the same). I should point out that this concept isn’t unique to ONE Length. Wedge manufacturers (like Vokey for example) have moved to lie angles flatter than the standard progression would call for. Why? Less force with the wedge swing creates less relative droop. Going flatter helps normalize impact lie. (source: T.Covey -- https://mygolfspy.com/2019-cobra-f9-speedback-irons/)"
Sure if someone reached out to Cobra customer service they may can gather more information. Makes me want to get get some numbers/test with various One Length models. Thanks for pointing this out and posting.

And Wishon would argue that the droop on a 7 iron doesn’t justify such large lie angle gaps. As someone who has a set of Edels and cobra F9 ones lengths I agree with Wishon. Same lie angle is the way to go to hit it straight most consistently:

  3. I've used them quite a bit and have nothing but good things to say about them. They have a store front in Wichita, KS like any other golf retailer but they also have a strong internet presence. As mentioned before if you order stock clubs from them they usually have them in stock and ship the same day. If you enter custom specs as mentioned they place the order with the manufacturer and the manufacturer builds them to spec and ships directly to you. My experience has been always use the manufacturer to build your clubs unless you have a really good builder you trust.

I love ordering from these guys because their custom options seem so much more robust than other sites.  When I order custom specs from my local places it has been 50/50 on if they screw it up or not. Not with these guys. Highly recommend them.

  4. Wow, that’s pretty sweet. I remember one of those being at a restaurant we went too as a kid. But by the time I was old enough to get it that place closed.

It’s a blast. You should check it out. Arcade1Up makes it along with a bunch of other arcade classics. On sale thru Walmart for $299 when I got it and it is like the full on arcade version just a hair smaller. Like 15” screen instead of 17”.

  5. Have the fairways returned to being green yet? I played there in Sept and there wasn't green grass to be found on any fairway. Quite sad to see that course in that condition.

They are about halfway there. Pissed a lot of members off as it should and lead to a ton of guys leaving mid year. I enjoyed the 80 yards of roll I was getting off the tees but if they don’t get it back to where it should be it will be a real disappointment.

  6. As a SkyTrak owner I’ve developed an indoor SkyTrak swing and then I have my normal outdoor golf swing because what works indoors doesn’t seem to translate on a real golf course. The one benefit I have seen is SkyTrak has really helped me with a better swing path because I feel left/right spin numbers are accurate enough to tell me if I’m slicing or hooking a shot. This has translated to the course.

  7. According to the NORAD Santa tracker he has deliver 3,700,000,000 gifts as of 5:25 EST on Christmas Eve and Santa’s route is extremely inefficient. Yet the USPS cannot get me a package from roughly 2 hours away to my home is 19 days. Point is they need to get with Santa and figure things out.

We got that package... do you think a LTE hotspot would power it?

We are getting out of my area of expertise but I don't see why not. I don't think you need a ton of speed for the game improvement courses. When you pay for the next level I think you need a gaming PC and lightning fast internet. I'd try it for you but I hate to break my connection because it took me about a week to get it up and running when I got it.

  9. Played another 18 today with the same ball. Still holding up well for durability. Glad I haven't lost it yet! It was overcast and in the lower forty's when I played this morning. So far out of all the play and testing, today was my negative day. With the cold temperature the Top Flight Gamer felt like the old top rocks!  It felt hard and sounded hard. Distance was shorter with every club today. So in order to qualify this I had fo test it against the Pro V1, Pro V1x and a TaylorMade TP5.  These balls maintained their normal distance for me. So on hole 11 I teed up the four balls. The results were that the V1 and TP5 was about 15 yards longer. The Pro V1x was about 20 yards longer. On hole 18 I tried to rip one with the Gamer.  By putting my all into it I got back to the compression feel and sound of when it was warmer out but still was about 10 yards shorter than where I normaly play my approach shot from.  It was cold air and three layers of clothing. I don't normally play under 45 degrees but it wasnt just me. I also had 145 yards into hole # 13. This is inbetween a 9 iron and an 8 iron for me. I hit the PV1 first and was center of the green with the 8 iron. Then hit the Gamer and was just short of the green by about a foot. Comparing the balls made me feel more comfortable in giving a negative for playing this ball in cold conditions.
It will be in the upper 50's on Wednesday and I'll see if performance goes back to normal.

I noticed a loss in distance in cold weather with the Gamer as well. I switched to the Top Flite Hammer Control and got it all back. Is it bad when your summer and winter balls are both Top Flites?

  10. We just got the last piece for the SkyTrak at work... super stoked.
just have to figure out how to get WiFi in the building we are setting it up in... does it even need WiFi?

You looking to get this 3bays thing?

SkyTrak only needs WiFi if you purchase the game improvement package for a hundred bucks. Without WiFi you only get the range. With game improvement you get courses to play which makes it a lot more fu. In my opinion.

Testing is well underway for the Zelos 7 and so far they are seeming to be what they are billed out to be. Below is a little screenshot comparing 6 irons of the Zelos 7 and the Modus 120. The Zelos 7 data is on top and the Modus 120 data is on the bottom. I intend to get between 50 and 100 useable shots for each club and track the data listed in the image below.

So far there have been no drop off in spin at all and due to the increased height landing angles have been increasing substantially so there have been no issues stopping the ball. All of my clubs (4-AW) have between 15 and 20 data points so far so if anyone is interested in a particular club fire away which one you would like to see.

To me that seems like a big leap to go from 120 gram to the Zelos so I'm curious how that transition has been? I have the Zelos 7's in some irons and I tend to lose them right and I see that in your numbers as well. Am I reading that right? I'm curious if the softer tip in these is what would cause this?

I finished my initial observations from last week. On the back nine I played a match play event between the Srixon ZStar XV and the Gamer. Results: The Gamer won 3 holes (12, 15, 16) to the ZStar's 1 (18). I played well and no holes were given so this was a fun match. I was consistently longer off of the tee with the Srixon on this day.

    Observations from a 15MPH wind:

The Srixon flew further on this day leading me to assume the Gamer may be effected by the wind more. The Gamer was shorter when the wind was hitting it compared to the first day I used it without wind and it seemed longer. Greenside spin was negligible as was putting firmness...I have an Odyssey #9 (soft insert). I think the Topflite reminds me of a Callaway chromesoft with the cover. Speaking of cover, it holds up really well as evidence from the attached pictures. The cover did not have any marks that would lead me to believe it would effect performance compared to a couple on the ZStar.

For what it's worth as a Gamer gamer I have yet to find a ball that is longer off the tee for me than the Srixon XV. The problems I have with that ball is I lose yardage from about the 7 iron down and for whatever reason I cannot putt to save my life with it.

Great work so far fellas.  I may have missed this, how is the Gamer performing on knock down shots and half wedges?  What about chipping around the green?  Are you seeing any difference in spin in partial shots compared to a urethane ball?

I'll jump in because it is fresh in my mind. I was screwing around on SkyTrak last night. Using the Srixon Z Star and the Gamer I noticed on 1/2 - 3/4 swings wedge shots the Z Star was a hair over 10,000 and the Gamer was a hair over 6,500. On the course I don't see much difference but on SkyTrak the Z Star will check up a whole lot better.
