I'm really digging the Agera but am having a hard time understanding the point of the 3D printed material in the middle, other than purely for marketing purposes.

I'm sure they say it was to save weight but they would have saved a lot more by leaving the 3D printed layer out completely since air weighs less than Nylon.  Wouldn't just having the top and bottom sections only freed up even more weight to put in the four corners of the head?

I guess they could have 3D printed the alignment line in the middle but it still wouldn't have needed to make it so large of a structure.

My guess is that sound/feel play a part.  Also I'm sure they want to show the tech off too.

    Undersized grips.

I have small hands to begin with, and the butt diameters of the MMT are slightly larger (.606) than previous shafts I've played. Haven't measured yet, but guessing I'm at least 1/64", if not 1/32", oversized with my .600 round Lamkin Sonars + painter's tape. Been struggling to find a good grip on the club lately, always seems to want to work into my left palm and it feels like I can't close my fingers around the shaft enough.

Looking at Star Sidewinders as I know I could completely eliminate the tape to get the size down as much as possible. Also not terribly expensive, in stock and only six grams lighter. But 14/15 clubs x $7 is still ~$100. Might have to experiment with a few first.

I wear a cadet small so I’m always curious if I should be in an undersize grip. There’s def not a big of a selection in that size. But I really like the sonars right now.

Bag makeup but also course layout definitely play into this. I shot 81 on Sunday with 21 full-swing iron shots but only 12 drivers and a single 4-wood. My bag goes up to 2i and more than a couple of those shots were 4i, which is a really comfortable 200-yard club for me. On a 7100 yard layout, I didn't get to use a wedge for anything other than a chip...

Setting up your bag based on where you play is something that probably isn't talked about enough. In another MGS group chat, we were talking about how many wedges each person carries and some guys were carrying 4 and 5 wedges. I currently carry two (not counting my set PW)...

Yeah I make up my set so that I have comfortable gaps through the bag.  I've technically got 5 "wedges" but since they're 1/2 to a club stronger lofts on the Forged Tec I count the PW only by name.  I have roughly a 15 yard gap all the way down the bag to my hybrid which is 20 yards and 25 to the 5 wood.  I don't tend to hit 3-woods well, and at 220+ out from a green I'm probably not going for it unless there's room to roll up onto the green.  I could probably get away with dropping the forged tec GW and going 50, 54, 58 but I'm not even sure what I would add at the top of the bag.  I guess I like keeping that area simple, and giving some extra versatility in the low end.

I'll also add that end up playing a lot of short irons/wedges in my rounds.

It is sad when this happens to a course. There is one by me that got lost last year and is really struggling to get back with some very strong burned out/dead areas still to the point where on a few holes half the fairway is ground under repair.

Two year's ago we played a Ridgewood up near Winnipesaukee and they had a ton of ice damage from the winter, and it was late June! The pro said that it can be really hard if they have a bad winter and the ice doesn't melt until later in the Spring.

Was thinking about my order last night (and yesterday afternoon... and in the morning) and thought it would be cool to go through the bag and list my thoughts and predictions about the setup I am going with:

Most Comfortable Clubs: Tour MIM Irons

Feel great, look great, with a shaft that I know will fit me.  I really have no doubt that these irons will do exactly what I need them to do and should provide me with similar gaps that I have with my Mizunos

    Most Uncomfortable Clubs: Radspeed 3W & 7W

Two of my oldest clubs in my current bag are my G410LST 3W and 818 H2 hybrid.  Everyone knows how personal a good 3W is and that is how things have been with my 3W since it has gone in the bag.  My 818 H2 hybrid has been the same way.  It fits the gap perfectly between my 3W and 4i and I do not have the fear of it going left like almost every other hybrid I have hit - I can even hit a fade with it!  I have never gamed a 5W, so a 7W is exciting but also a complete unknown.  Unfortunately the Radspeed hybrid was just too draw biased to be a consideration and I just dont feel comfortable hitting a 2 utility iron off the deck.  So seeing the trends on the PGA Tour with several players going 7W in recent weeks and trading some messages with Ian Fraser, the 7W made the cut.  Really curious to see how these two clubs perform for me.

    Sleeper Clubs:  MIM Wedges

I love my Vokey wedges, but I really think the MIM Wedges, especially the 54 and 60, could have a chance to be something special.  The WideLow grind of on the 60 really intrigues me.  I currently play 12 degrees of bounce on my 60 and the Cobra will have 6 degrees, but with a wide sole.  The MIM 60 really might have an extra gear of versatility, especially off of tighter lies, that my current 60 degree doesn't quite have.

Those MIM wedges are superb.  I was using an SM7 D-grind 60* before and also went with the WideLow on the MIM.  It is nice to have one that I can use on super tight lies but that wide sole adds some forgiveness back to the mix.  It's really a lot more versatile than I was expecting.  Tight lies, thick rough, and sand are all made easy by the MIM wedge.  I also really like the classic grind on the 52*.  That one seems to work great for my delivery on greenside chips, 40-50 yard pitches, and full swings too.

TXG talking it up is good enough for me.  And if my wife asks...well this one was $900, I bought the one that was $400 🙂

You saved $500! Maybe you should get a new Cobra Putter since you saved so much!

I laugh when I check out at Kohl’s with two tee shirts and a pack of socks and the receipt is like “you saved $78.35 shopping with us today!” Like when was this tee shirt ever not $9.99?

I don't know why but something about the MIzuno ST-Z Driver caught my eye.  Maybe it was Keith Mitchell last week who knows but $400 for a driver with some of those shaft upgrades for $0 is Reeeeeaaaallllly tempting...

Seems like they’re onto something this year. The TXG boys have been enjoying it and they do have some great stock options.

I also noticed they were pretty much out of stock on mizuno’s site the other day, hopefully because of demand and not just Covid.

  8. I had to go putter here.  A close second would be my wedges.

    My reasoning:

-If I have to hit a tee-shot or approach shot I should be able to hit a REASONABLY good shot with any off the rack club.  My misses will certainly be better with properly fit clubs, but generally a good shot will be a good shot.  I just might have to factor in differences in loft/lie with my starting line.

-If I have to hit a wedge shot once again I should be able to hit a reasonably good shot with an off the rack wedge.  I'd likely just choke up a bit more to have more control.  I'm pretty confident in my ability to hit a flop shot or something like that if needed.

-I want my putter in my hands.  I know that I can putt well with most any off the rack putter.  But if you're telling me I have one shot at a putt, I know my best shot at making it is with my putter.  All the other shots listed a success vs fail has more room for error than the make or miss of a putt.

Of course it's overkill. And of course my current NX9 Slope is already way more accurate that I'll ever be with any club in my bag.

Nonetheless, I'm very likely to sell my NX9 and get this. I already have two phones with me on the course. I have an old iPhone 6 with no SIM card that I use exclusively for Arccos. It's much smaller than my actual phone and so it's perfect to keep in my pocket for recording rounds and then analyzing the numbers later.

I also have my Android phone with me, normally in one of the compartments of my pushcart. If I pair this with the Android, after using my SkyTrak to input all my launch angles and spin rates for all my clubs, I'm just one hat and 100 pounds from unleashing my inner Bryson.

The humidity and temperature are probably not out to enough decimal places for Bryson's calculations!

Orders are being supported to Cobra this morning!

And now begins the longest wait of all time!

Oh and remember guys... they won't likely all come at once!  It was a week or so of guessing what was coming that day from the FedEx man!

Can't wait to start seeing some photos from you guys of the new gear ready to kick off the competition!

  11. There isn't a face tech story like EVNROLL with these right?  I know the an EVNROLL putter the center is purposely softer/less hot than the heel/toe so that a ball should roll out to the same length if its hit anywhere along the milled face.

They took me a few rounds to get used to, but since then it's really been working.  I Don't think there is that kind of tech here.. Just EVNROLL and PING I think (and PING doesn't use it on all models).

If I had to guess it would be the sound difference that Cody noted is what you're picking up on.

Sounds like a giant waste of time and money to me. In my experience range finders slow down pace of play for all types of players. I am a hacker. (16). For me and those like me the front, middle and back yardage on my GPS watch are plenty of information. And when In doubt, grab the extra club right? And I swear that none of the 3s 4s or 5s I have ever played with hit their numbers nearly often enough to justify the extra 90 seconds they would spend fiddling with one of these 18 to 24 times a round. Sewing clothing none of you really good players want to see me wait for the green to clear when I'm 230 yards out and none of us hacks want to see you fiddle throwing grass up in the air and trying to figure out the difference between two or three yards either you're not playing for money you don't need the numbers that accurate and you sure don't need temperatures and wind speeds and slopes and relative humidity and God knows what else. Play the freaking game

Courses I play aren’t well marked anymore. Trust me it’s much faster for me to hit the laser while my playing partners hit and it is for me to find the nearest marker and figure out how far I think I am.

However, I agree that a GPS watch can be faster if you just want middle locations.

I’m no pro, but my club selection and swing are going to be different for a 100 yard or 110 yard shot.  And if I execute, I’ll take 3-4 less shots in the round to slow everyone down.

I finally got a Cobra Rep out to get me fitted with the help of a guy I take lessons from, Neil Thompson (plug - he qualified for the Senior PGA Championship next week! Pulling for Neil and hope he crushes it).

Here is what I decided on and thoughts from the fitting below.

    image.png.e157c2a71dbfdeeb481f8549141b982d.png

Fitting worked out great as it was just me, Neil, and the Cobra rep. See pictures at the end. We had a Foresight Gamechanger (trackman was being used elsewhere) on site that helped hone in the distances, total spin, and launch angle. I had a lot of options to choose from in terms of shafts and heads. The one thing I did not get to try out were the MIM wedges, but there were brand new Snakebite wedges there to try out.

Going into the fitting I knew I wanted to find a shaft that works for my irons and figure out what I wanted to do with my 4 iron through driver.

Driver: My miss sometimes is a left pull/ when its really bad, it is a left hook, so I knew I would not be going with the XB or XD driver. I really just wanted to find a shaft that would fit my swing. I started out with the Motore X F1, but kept having a lower ball flight than what I was used to even with a +1 setting. I ended up gaming the Smoke RDX Blue as the ball flight, distance were better along with a much lower spin rate of around 2000. The matte blue finish didn't suit my eye online, but I actually preferred it once seeing it in person. I included one of my swings with the driver at the end. Roasts are acceptable if desired.

Fairway/Utilities: I decided to game the Big Tour 3 wood as a mini second driver off the tee for those tight fairways. This club was hot off the face and lower trajectory as the weight is all up front. I plan on using my 5 wood and 4 hybrid as those longer second shots in the fairway as needed. The club face for the hybrid does appear closed at address, but I didn't have any problems with a big draw. I did go the heaviest shaft as I could fine to make sure that doesn't happen. I tried to like the Utility iron but only caught it flush 3/6 times. When I did though, it felt and sounded awesome. Ultimately I think I could control the hybrid more than the utility iron.

Irons: Like @txgolfjunkie, I am going with the Copper finish on the MIMs with a black KBS tour shaft. Hoping they will look as slick as I'm hoping. The Cobra rep did warn me about sand based ranges as those will be the ones to really wear off that copper finish. The irons I game now are KBS Tour 90S and I bought them right off the shelf not thinking about much 6 years ago. Now I realized I probably needed a heavier shaft, hence the 120g. I really did love the feel as it felt like I was puring every shot. Since we are throwing out 7 iron numbers, mine was in the 175-180 yd range.

Wedges: I have had my eye on the Snakebite wedges ever since they were released. I got to try the full face groove around the green and out of the sand and loved it. Looking forward to seeing how the full face compares to the SM7 60 I typically use around the green.

Swings like that are the reason I feel so sure about #teamChad.

@Wedgie you should be shaking in your boots!

Sounds great in theory, but this is bordering on overkill

Generally yeah, it's probably overkill.  But this could be cool/useful information if you're a frequent golf traveler and go and play at several different climate/elevations.

It would be nice to have a better Idea of what distances I should expect from going from playing here in MA versus going out to someplace like Denver where the elevation should play a significant factor on the distance.

If you're playing the same courses frequently it would be less useful as you'd be used to those general conditions.

I didn't see a mention of this, but how much of this is within the rules of golf?  I know it has  the slide to turn off slope, do we lose all the other adjustments at that point to?

I think Arccos caddie can use data from when the round started, but can't refresh or get current winds during the round.  Although I have not tried Tournament mode with it so I'm not 100% there.

  15. 18 minutes ago, cnosil said:

But this isn’t Arcoss like.  arcoss actually captures distances and makes recommendations based on how you actually hit the ball.   This you simply enter you distance and it will recommend based on the single value you provide.

at least that is my interpretation.

edit: went and looked at the app description and it does apparently have the ability to track average distances.  Even more interesting now.

Yeah, I wonder how much of it will have to do with the app vs on the device.  Might be a bit of work going between the two to tell it what club you used and where you're hitting from, etc.  It looks like we need to get a good demo of it in action, but I applaud @PrecisionProGolf for thinking outside the viewfinder and adding some features and enhancements I haven't seen elsewhere yet.
