ole gray
I've seen a boatload of folks run their index finger down the shaft with their putters. Not so much with other clubs. I've seen two people over the years use this technique with their drivers and they were successful with it. Actually they were better than average with fairways hit. I've been experimenting lately with this finger riding down the shaft stuff with my driver and the results are eye opening. I've noticed some consistency off the tee, that is worth giving this a longer look. Anyone else use the ole index finger down the shaft trick? Hey,,, it's not always about being technically correct huh? As Arnie would say, "swing your swing"...... BigtazzGolf
Very interesting. I'll do it on short putts. Never thought of trying it with another club though. Suppose it would force a lighter grip pressure on the one hand. Maybe it's a grip you could go to as you get tired and your swing speed slows down. Let me know how it works out for you. Kenny B
Being right-handed, my right hand grips clubs with the last two fingers; middle finder is along for the ride (unless it's a bad shot, then it's been known to point straight up); index finger is slightly down the shaft and under like a trigger finger. I putt with my left index finger down the shaft, and the fingers of my right hand wrap around the club and index finger, locking it to the grip. ole gray and silver & black 2 Quote “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

Smalls1588
I have a buddy who's a good player that doesn't have it straight down but rather has his index finger away from the rest of his grip and slightly curled. MDGolfHacker
I just picked up a club to swing with my finger down the shaft. It restricts hinging of my wrists. That might prevent those that cast the club by preventing the wrist hinge, but it also restricts the lag through the swing too which hells generate the power. Just a thought. ole gray
No doubt one of the best things this helps me with is flipping. J woods
I have just started golf again after 15 years and cannot change to a standard grip no matter how much I try it, I have to use my right hand index finger down the shaft as it’s the only way it feels comfortable and has done since I played a lot when I was a younger, never had a lesson it just felt comfortable, also played cricket like it to against all coaches advice
