Ebay rant

Was watching some items on Ebay.  I will never understand why people bid things up so high with 4 days left to go in the auction?  Why not wait till its almost over and put your max bid in?  Don't they know they are just driving the price up?

I think it's usually new users or possibly dare I say a friend of the seller looking to get a higher sell price.

I try not to ever bid on anything, if I want it I find a buy it now that has a good price and just buy it, I used to bid but I got tired of not winning the bid, I had one that I watched until it the time ran out, and I was the high bidder the whole time, and it never reached my max bid, and I expected to get a notification that won, but when I checked later I lost the bid, and it was less than my max bid, the whole bidding thing is crooked on EBay so I just buy it and screw the bidding.

I'm with Tazz. I'm almost positive it's other people boosting bidding.

The flip side is if there's something that's worth hundreds for sale but the auction starts at like $1, it seems like an awesome deal for a long time and people keep bidding since they're currently winning at a steal. It's risk/reward as a seller but you can drum up some great interest.

Ebay is geared towards selling.  They don't care for how much.  Just pay attention and there are deals to be had.  Personally I typically only browse the Buy It Now listings.  No time to deal with auctions.

Tazz hit it dead in the screws. Those are what you call shill bidders. You will see it at live auctions too. Used to see it at car auctions a lot. I have about quit messing with E-Bay period. Most of my deals I do are private. Over on WRX a lot of us guys on the Classic Forums buy and trade among ourselves via PM. There are some over there in the Classics that are E Bay sellers that are on the up and up though. I will give one piece of advice when dealing with high dollar stuff like Cameron putters make sure you deal with a seller that has a good rating. There is so much counterfit stuff out there now.

Yeah it's amazing how often I'll place a bid and someone (or something) tries to snipe me with one second left, driving the price right up to my maximum bid, but I still win, although for the absolute maximum price I'm willing to pay. Seems just a bit shady.

They other I cant stand is when someone lists an item that isn't very unique or particularly valuable or sought after with a 10 day auction. I just want to make a purchase, I don't feel like waiting a week and a half to make it.

When I sell on eBay I list everything at a fixed price with a make offer button. I like to haggle and get a deal done, not waste mine and the buyer/sellers time.

I have won one auction. For a medalist rangefinder for $60 brand new. I knew I got such a deal that its the last auction I participated in. Like BK mentioned if you look hard enough you can find some deals. But I still prefer amazon.

Getting deals on eBay is about patience. Deals come and go. If you can be patient and have the discipline to give up on auctions when they get up in price, you'll live to get the deal another day.

I can't tell you how many times I've given up the search for a club because the auctions keep bumping up above my target range only to come back a month later and catch a perfect price with a new crop of sellers.

I just hate doing the BiN without haggling the price down some because I hate paying full market value (different than full retail) like a two-bit chump.

Besides that, you can hunt for great deals by widening up your search to find poorly listed items. The listing quality matters when you're trying to get top dollar. My buddies wife made a killing by buying bad listings of any product, then reselling the same item with better pictures and descriptions.

I have never sold anything on e-bay, but have waited for the last 30 sec, and put in what

I am willing to pay, so far I have been lucky getting some great deals. But most of my purchasing is buy it now/make an offer.

Thats just it, wait till the last seconds and bid your max. Wht bid 4 days prior, that bid wont stand 99% of the time, your just driving up the price.

Living in Canada my biggest pet peeve is having to wait so long to get the gear. I don't mind waiting out auctions if I can get a good deal, but having to wait 2 weeks or more sometimes to get the gear kinda sucks.
