palvord
It's been quite some time since I posted in here. Heck, I think in the time between posts, I've started and stopped multiple weight loss plans. I'm stealing the time to toot my own horn for my success on my current journey. I'm down 53lbs from May of 2021. Started at 250 and down to 197. Some things that have helped me be successful this time: - I don't have a goal weight. I have a goal of living as long as possible and being able to do the things I love. For me that means being able to move the way I want. This mentality shift has helped me not rely on motivation, but rather on discipline. - I still hate going to the gym. I have accepted the fact that if I want to watch my (Lord willing) future grandkids get married, that I need to be physically active on a daily basis. - As some previous posts have mentioned, I have developed a better view and relationship with food. No food is bad. Food is a means to living my goal. There are foods that get or keep me moving towards my goals, and there are foods that slow me down slightly. This has helped me not beat myself up when life says it makes more sense to have pizza tonight. I don't punish myself the next day, I just move back towards different foods the very next meal, and keep the same exercise plans. Consistency over perfection. - Becoming a father has probably been the biggest thing that changed the way I take care of my body. I know that I need to set the example for my daughter, and I want her to see that physical well being is important. This is what allows me to choose getting on the elliptical or picking up the weights when I don't feel like doing it. It's been so much easier to not view my physical activity and eating plans as sacrifices when I am keeping her in mind. - Resources. I try to read something about longevity every day to help stay focused on why I am changing my habits. I read and listen to various folks such as Peter Attia, Layne Norton, the Renaissance Periodization folks, David Sinclair to name a few. - I like how I look. Vanity is not something I would ever consider as a motivation, but before and after photos have been really powerful for me. I have scrolled back through my phone and been ashamed and in awe of the man I used to be compared to the man I am now. I haven't done any other measurements other than weight, but now that I am working on maintenance, I should do that. RichL85
I spent 2 weeks in Florida for work, living out of a hotel, and then after a weekend at home spent another few days out of town again. I'm a guy that likes routines and consistency, so being in different hotels, different cities, not always having a choice in where I am going to be eating, it was a struggle. Even going to the same gym chain that isn't "my" gym weirds me out because things are in different places, some of the equipment is slightly different or missing entirely. I don't like it. Still made some decent progress with 4.5 pounds down over the two and a half weeks. Like @palvord mentioned, I started with a goal weight in mind, but that is completely gone now. I'm more focused on some other things associated with the process and how I feel. I don't believe that my body structure is intended to be thin, so I've come to terms that I may never be a certain weight, but I can certainly control being healthier and trying to stick around for my kids a lot longer than my own father did. I've come to terms that one bad day does far less damage when you accept it for what it is, and get back to normal rather than letting it guilt you into a spiral of poor choices. If anyone has not read it yet, I would highly recommend the book Atomic Habits. It's a good book for shifting a mindset to focus on consistency of good choices rather than burning out trying to be absolutely perfect all the time. Also, sometimes you have to be gracious with yourself. If anyone is like me, you are your own worst critic and talk to yourself in a way that you would never let another person talk to your friend or spouse. Ben_Howell34
Got a goal to get to 200 by end of April (annual golf trip). Weighed 209 last week, started out at 218. Eating 2250 calories per day and cutting out sugar and alcohol (never drank much, but it’s empty calories). 190 is probably my best weight. juspoole
I just hit the Cobra LTDX LS for the first time over lunch today. It was following a workout, so needless to say the swing was not feeling dialed. Kind of dumb on my part as I do not feel like I got much out of it. However, I can say that the feedback is nice on the club. Very easy to tell where I hit on the face. Also, spin stayed at great numbers. One outlier that was too low and one that was too high, but everything else was great. Will have to keep this on my list for ones to try. Next, just a takeaway, but MGS is spot on about hitting with quality golf balls during a fitting. The first half of my session was with the Maxfli rocks that Golf Galaxy had available and I could not get my ball speed over 160. I stumbled across a couple TP5X and used those for the remainder. My ball speed did not fall below 166 from then on and I had a couple hit 172. Just crazy how big of a discrepancy it was. RichL85
Well, slow progress is still progress. Down 45 pounds since September with ? still to go. I don't much care anymore what the eventual number ends up being, but I keep working at it. Starting to get a little worried since there have been some organizational changes with the program I have been working with and that will end up with me being passed off to a new trainer. In theory the transition should be simple as the program won't change, just the trainer I work with, but I definitely don't like change. Workouts are going well even if it is relatively light weights on a lot of things. palvord, Kenny B and MattF 3 Quote Driver: Titleist GT3 w/ GD Tour AD VF 6S (Testing in progress) 3 & 5 Woods: Titleist GT3 w/ GD Tour AD VF 7S (Testing in progress) Hybrids: 19 and 22 degree PXG 0317XF Gen 4 w/ Project X Evenflow Riptide 80g Irons: 5-PW PXG 0311P Gen 4 w/ KBS Tour 120 Wedges: Indi 50 FLX, 54 FLX, 58 ATK w/ KBS Wedge 610 (Official Review) Putter: PXG Battle Ready Blackjack, 36.5”, Double Bend neck Titleist GT Long Game Testing

Don't know exactly the science behind it, but the program I've been working with changes up my workouts about every 6 weeks, and will tell me to have a "free meal" every now and then. Theory is that the body will adapt to the status quo and you have to occasionally throw something different at it to confuse it and make it work. It usually ends up being a day where I have to throw in an extra 50 carbs or something like that. It's just a thought. I was stuck at my starting weight eating way too little because my body decided it was going to store every bit of energy it could. It didn't think I would feed it. When I started the program I actually increased my food by 1000 calories a day and started losing weight. The science behind the changing of work out every 6 weeks isn’t about confusing but to avoid adaptive resistance. At some point of doing the samething for too long the benefit will reduce and there won’t be progress. So by changing the type exercise you will see progress. Anywhere from 4-8 weeks is when to change an exercise. As for the food if one is in a caloric deficit for awhile coaches will introduce a refeed day, it helps with metabolism. As for your last paragraph this is something that affects many. It’s called a reverse diet. The person is in a caloric deficit or under eating and doing so harms the metabolism. Not everyone will see weight loss on a reverse diet but what happens is your body sees more energy coming in and realizes it needs to work harder so you end up losing weight while eating more. Ben_Howell34
Weighed 206 today. Probably won’t make 200 by golf trip but I’ve lost 12 lbs so the goal has been helpful! juspoole, GaDawg, GolfSpy TCB and 2 others 4 1 Quote Radspeed Driver 10.5* Radspeed 3W 14.5* Stealth 4H 22* JPX 921 Hot Metal Pro 4i-PW RTX Zipcore Wedge 52* Mid Bounce RTX Zipcore Wedge 56* Mid Bounce Kirkland Signature KS1 Putter
MattF
Upped the ante at the gym yesterday with my son. 120lbs chest press, 290 leg press, 130 lat pull down, 100 shoulder press (this one sucks because of a bad shoulder), 130 leg curl, 120 bicep curl, 160 tricep extension, 130 leg extension and 130 seated row. LeftyMatt89
Down 46 this year sticking to weight watchers and nit even exercising besides walking and golfing twice a week. I have noticed I have more stamina golfing and more flexibility now that there is less weight to swing through. Overall sticking to it and have 15 more to be at goal weight. ejgaudette, MattF and Kenny B 3 Quote Driver: TSR3 8 Ventus Red TR 8X Fairway: TSi2 16.5 Ventus Red TR 8X Hybrid: Sim 2 - 19 Hybrid Tensei Orange 90TX or Srixon ZX 2 Iron - ADDI 105X Irons: T200/T100S Black 4-AW - MMT 125TX Wedges: SM8 54.10S & 58.04T MMT 125TX (Soon to Test Toura Wedges with MMT 125TX) Putter: Lajosi DD201 Pro V1X Left Dash
juspoole
Continue to hover around 214. Goal would be more like 205. I've been weight lifting again, similar to what I would do in college. So even though I'm only down about 14 pounds, I've definitely put on a good amount of muscle in the past 4 months. Diet could still use some tightening. Calorie wise, I'm usually not too bad, but certainly could eat better in general with less processed food and things like that.
