The clubs have been put together for a while now but recently I decided to give them a subtle new look.. and feel. Not BB&F, but these are the custom ferrules from Golfworks. I just wanted clean and basic and I think these work perfectly. Also wanted to try out some full cord grips for the first time. So far I'm really liking these Royal Linktechs. Also think they spruce up the set a little. Lastly, this is my DIY club ruler that I built. It works awesome. I added a few touches to help lock the club in place correctly. jbern
I'm fairly new to club building/customization. I've done a few things in the past, but haven't really given them much thought. I recently cut down an armlock putter 3" and regripped it with a heavier grip. I liked the length change, but it threw off the swing weight drastically, so I ended up adding a lot of lead tape to the bottom of the putter. Long story longer, I recently picked up a Cobra LTDx from a fellow spy and have been playing around with choking up on the shaft (it's currently 45.5 inches). I hit it the best in the simulator when I was choking up at least 1" (probably closer to 1.25"). So I'm considering shortening the club permanently and also putting on a JumboMax Tour Series XS grip (I love the firm feel and size of those grips). This means that not only would I be shortening the club, but also going from a 47g grip to a 90g grip. I don't really want the overall club weight to go up potentially 70-90g (43g in grip change, plus added weight to driver head). Do any of you who do this more often have any advice? Do I just forget the heavy JumboMax and go for an UltraLite? Also, I don't really want to re-tip the shaft, but is it advised when taking more than 1" off the shaft? Fatshot
I just bought a mint Cobra LTDx Max 10.5 degree driver head and paired it up with a UST Mamiya Helium shaft (senior flex). I spined and floed the shaft before attaching it to the head, and played 18 holes with it yesterday. My first couple of drives were pull hooks (my usual miss), but then I started aiming a little right and tried harder to "wait on the club head" before hitting through the ball. This straightened the drives out a lot, but still was hitting it more left than straight. I would say that overall I hit it LOW and slightly LEFT compared to my gamer. When I got home yesterday I got out the torque wrench and changed from the "Standard loft / draw" setting to "+1.5 degree/ straight." We'll see how that goes next time out..... If that doesn't prove to be better than my old Ping G, I'll fit it with an R shaft and give it to my 50 year old son....
