Do range Finders level the playing field?

I wanted to get others opinions now that Mr. Blocks hype has calmed down.

Do you think the ability to have a range finder and not rely on a caddy and a yardage book leveled the playing field so he was able to complete in the PGA championship? Once the range finder was removed and without and expert caddy he obviously struggled.

Would there be more level competition if the range finder was at every event?

Everyone stinks, yes even the pros. Have fun

IMO, getting the distance to the flag is basic golf fundamental and the detailed yardage books make it easy.  During the PGA he simply played some of the best golf he has ever played.   I think caddies are more there for mental support than simply getting a yardage.  Rangefinders only give a portion of the information needed to determine shots.

Block played week simply because he was able to execute golf shots at a high level.

No. Because both ways are going to have distance to the flag but the caddy/yardage book is going to have a lot more distance information regarding width and depth of green, green contour, how far onto the green the pin is, how much room side to side.

Depending on the golfer the caddy plays a bigger role than just distance

I think a week of parties and talk shows probably led to his poor play at colonial more than anything else.

This is most likely the biggest culprit and absolutely the route I would have gone as well.  He knew he played lights out and it probably wasn't sustainable.  Why not take advantage and enjoy yourself a little?  I imagine his teaching schedule filled up pretty quick, too!

In not judging.  I know BK said he wasn't sure he was going to be able to hit the ball at the LIV event the week after the PGA because of how much he planned on celebrating. Can't blame either of them.
