There is no valid argument that picking JT was based on merit. You should make the Ryder Cup team by being one of the best players of the year. JT has been terrible all year. He robbed a spot that others were more deserving.

I agree.  if you want to make the team based on performance then play well enough to get an automatic pick.  The captains picks are designed to round out the team with experience, new blood, locker room/course presence, and relationships with the other players.

Obviously, the captains picks have to improve the team in some manner or they are bad picks. We won’t know if JT was a bad pick until it’s too late. Same for Burns. But I think it’s very fair to debate what/who would make the team better.

There are always debates on the picks; Suzann Peterson is facing criticism in her Solheim picks.  Based on recent performance JT doesn't seem like a good pick,  but I think you have to look at his and Speith's partnership in Ryder and Presidents cups which makes him a good pick.

One of the XM PGA radio guys suggested that JT will likely not play alternate shot.  That makes sense to me given his inconsistent play this year.  But I still think he will be pretty decent at the Ryder Cup. He's a grinder and Bones is probably one of the best caddies on the Tour. So they will be tough to beat in Four Ball if he's partnered with some strong players.

Zach knew he would be under the microscope for the last 1 or 2 picks.  He is used to the pressure, so he will do great.  But Europe at home is going to be very hard for Team USA.

I think people don't realize how many distractions happen on the course during the Ryder Cup.  As an example. All the close family members are watching every shot from a golf cart following the group.  Being able to handle these types of distractions takes a ton of experience.

IF Europe wins, the picks will definitely be criticized. If the US wins, all will be well in the world of Captains Picks.

I know not an exact comparison, but match play is very different than stroke play.  Just like the fact that the Bryan brothers in tennis won 16 major titles, in doubles and many many more in non major tournaments, but neither one of them won a singles title.

Absolutely. Some people just thrive in match play events.

House hold names are just hard to leave out if you've had success, which they have. It will be a crazy event. I don't believe either team made any mistakes with their team in my opinion.

At this point, I would tend to agree with you.  Good experience and some up and comers who have shown the ability to get it done.  I think it should be an exciting Cup!

At Whistling Straits Lee Westwood (a household name and Europe stalwart) made it as the last automatic pick, piping Robert MacIntyre. He was interviewed after the PGA at Wentworth and his interview was just terrible full of apathy and basically was neither up nor down if he qualified. And it showed when he played.

Some people say europe will miss the LIV players, my views is that they would have been relying on a pick and after 2021 where Garcia, Poulter and Westwood contributed a grand total of 3 points out of a possible 10, there time has gone.

How it always goes down for sure. One side will always take heat for the picks when they lose. Makes it awesome haha

I Like Keegan as well, especially in the Ryder Cup.  His best was with Mickelson as his partner.  Since no Phil, may have been part of the decision process.  I am glad that JT looks as though he has found his game at the right time.

After watching the final round of the BMW, it looks like most of the Euro Team is playing well.  Two weeks to go, I hope that the Cup is competitive for both, not looking for the one-sided after first two days.

Looks like Scheffler has finally made a move to improve his terrible putting.   He's now working with putting coach Phil Kenyon at the Ryder Cup
