Popular Post IndyBonzo Posted February 12 Popular Post Share Posted February 12 @ILMgolfnut and I started talking by IM about our simultaneous garage golf simulator projects, and decided to join forces in a thread about our progress, components, experiences and the like, and to welcome suggestions. While waiting for my 12x9x5 enclosure to arrive, I finally found time to clean my garage and clear the area for the install. I really know how to use excitement to grab a reader at the intro, so here are some thrilling before and after pics. The rugs are where the sim will go. The long rug against the back wall is cheap artificial turf 12’ wide, so that may give you some sense of scale. I will surely need to move things around but for now I plan to leave the TV where it is. Yes, my garage is absurdly big. Long story that … for another time. Garage is nowhere near clean; it's currently piled about five feet high with empty cardboard boxes from the GF's retail therapy (below). However, I have broken out the R10 for an outdoor session, as detailed elsewhere on the forum. I hit 44 pitching wedges, direction and distance seemed to be consistent and pretty close to actual measurements, if I had something else to measure them. Somewhere under all that cardboard is a table where I will set the TV once I get ready to set up. My excuse is that the net and mat still haven't been delivered; I thought they notified me last week that they'd been shipped, but apparently not. I goofed and thought I did not have all the parts when I did. That slowed me down. Because my projector attaches to the sim enclosure, the crossbeams (front and back top) are not EMT, but are steel trusses to add more strength. This I did not realize until talking with the manufacturer. You will probably beat me to the finish line @ILMgolfnut b/c I am out of town quite a lot over the next few weeks. Expect delays. ILMgolfnut Posted February 20 Share Posted February 20 (edited) Had a golf lesson last night in which the instructor gave me stuff to work on, specifically swing path and angle of attack for the driver. It will be so nice to be able to work on it at night, when it's raining, whenever I can squeeze in 20 minutes or so, instead of having to drive to the range during daylight hours! Since I ordered the Garmin, for some reason my phone is getting bombarded by ads for the Bushnell Launch Pro. Which looks really good at a not-too-terrible price. I could see upgrading from the Garmin to the Bushnell or Mevo+ or something in a year or two. Pricing with all the different subscription plans is tough to figure out too. I predict you will love the Garmin. Need to go back into that session (I saved it for future reference) and look at other metrics. And sure enough here are the metrics from my best wedge shot of the session. Clearly instead of being dead straight as I thought, Garmin had it as a baby cut. Baby cuts work from 100 yards... I did like the Garmin R10, but my drawback is the location of the unit being behind... I did run across the Ernest Sports Tour Plus 2.0 launch monitor that is priced around 2K (works with E6, TGC2019 and GSPro). I'm not finding a good review of it online either. Monitor reviews can be garbage, but I've found two or three people whose opinions I trust. I agree that the website looks interesting. Found some reviews for their ESB1 monitor, including one here on MGS, but not the Tour Plus. Here's a YouTube review though: Regarding the space needed for the Garmin, it's 6-8 feet behind the ball and 8 feet-ish from ball to screen. My garage isn't huge, but 16 feet was easily doable.
