How'd you play?

I played a course locally I haven't played in just about a year. First round shot 100! I haven't shot 100 or worse in years, but a front 9 of 54 will do that. The next day I shot 93, with a triple double triple finish. What makes it more annoying is that for a few holes I was starting to find my swing. I just can't figure it out right now. My driver leads to 2-3 OOB shots, my irons are not really that accurate and my short game was on fire for the most part, but has been the biggest struggle as of late.

I've come to the conclusion that there is something wrong with my game. I can't put my finger on it but I'm not consistently scoring. On Saturday I played in our men's game and shot 72. Prolly should have been 69. 5 birdies, 3 bogeys and a double. Overall very acceptable bc everything felt fine. Sunday I come back out for the men's game and couldn't hit my ass with both hands. Shot 79 and only made one birdie. I just can't figure it out. No way either of those scores should have been what they were. Golf can really get you down sometimes about your game sometimes.

I did the same yesterday and the first nine on Sunday. On Sunday I shot 48 on the front and 41 on the back; yesterday I shot shot the same score... 89 with only one birdie but it was a lot of bogeys and the occasional double. My 3H just started hating me for some reason so I lose a stroke out in the fairway. With my lack of distance, I can't afford to lose strokes that way.

Played a Tournament Sunday in pretty good winds and the greens were inconsistent and bumpy. I felt like I played well but the greens killed me. Couldn't get decent reads and the speed were not the same. But you can see my stats below to se that I actually hit the ball pretty well. The new driver was amazing. Hit 11/13 fairways with the driver and all of them over 295 yards including the ones into the wind. Hit one 337 into the wind and 380 down wind. 540yard par 5 hit driver 9 iron from 161 to a slightly elevated green.

Validating that I played well I won the 0-5 hdcp flight by 7 shots. It was just a tough day for everyone on the course.

39 putts?  Were the greens really that tough or were you in bad spots?  I'd commit harry carey at that point but of course I don't drive it 330 - more like 230 so I need to putt well.

Wow, 39 putts and shot 81.....That's half of the total score!

I would put Scotty Cameron Newport 2 Buttonback in the garage and try something else for awhile.

It wasn't the putter I was hitting all my lines but the speed was so inconsistent that the break was not what I was seeing. I would guess one speed and pick a line and come up short. Then adjust for the speed and line and miss high side and roll past a few feet. I would say there was 18"-2' difference in speed from green to green

One time I'd like to see a tour event set up like that - just set the course up like a typical muni, call it the every man tournament and see how the boys do. :)

Practicing on the putting green doesn't help!  However, I think they would probably do OK on the greens after a few holes.  They might have trouble in the bunkers!!  Sand in the bunkers is more inconsistent than the green speed.

Worst putting day I ever had was 45 putts and shot 87. Made we want to give up the game. Greens were very quick and it was super windy. This was prolly 4 years ago so I guess I decided to stick with it. haha

Scored terrible yesterday, but overall it was a very fun and enjoyable day.  One of regulars has for years  provided lodging for junior players at the junior players championship at the TPC and has sponsored some of them as they start their pro careers.  One of his current "sponsorees", was in town and was looking for a game, so he played with us in our Tuesday game yesterday.  I jiggled the foursomes so that he was with a couple of the guys who can play the blue tees (and I stuck myself in there as well).

It was a real pleasure playing with someone who has that much talent.  He's a 20 year old aussie and has a build very similar to Rickie.  And hits it almost like Rickie.  Measured two of his drives at 304 and 309.  He birdied the first five holes and finished with a six under 66.  (albeit from 6,500 yds).

I started out great, piped my drive 261 (awesome for me).  But three putted the first hole (and many more).  38 putts for the day.  Good putts just missed, but there were a whole lot of bad putts.

I was working on the next step on my swing remake (better rotation of the hips on the downswing).  First round of that.  Some great results, but some really bad shots when I didn't get the timing right.  I will boast that for the first time ever (10 years) on the TPC Valley course I reached #8 par 5 in two.  Great drive and great 5 wood to pin high, 20 ft (of course, I missed the eagle putt).  Great thing is, this was from the blue tees, almost 20 yrds longer than the whites, and I had never made it from the whites.  495 yds in two shots was completely awesome for me, made up for all the bad shots and gosh awful putting.

Nonchalant putts count the same as chalant putts.

Yes, they had the bulldozers going strong yesterday.  Should open again in October or so.

Didn't get to play golf today, but got hosted at Citi Field where the Mets play to take batting practice.  For not swinging a bat in over a year it was a good showing.  At 39 years old I am now relegated to warning track power and almost snuck one out down the right field line but had too much top spin.

I was mid 80's through October of last year. At one point I hadn't hit 90 in months. Since then I've had 3-4 rounds under 90 and had a few around 100. It sucks to play really well and then not be able to do anything. Some of it is short game, some mental, and a lot of it is cluelessness. stick it through though, I'm sure you'll find a solution faster than I will.

As a mets fan I'm jealous. As a Luis Castillo hitter (all singles no power), I never got close enough to threaten a home run. I was more likely to work a 12 pitch walk then ever hit a double.

Started out great. #1 is a dogleg left, I hit a high beautiful draw to 155, stick my 9 iron to 5 feet, knock in a birdie. Then comes #2. Apparently there is a tourney coming up at my local course. So the course is in great shape butttt they are growing the rough to like 12". Hit my driver just off the fairway, my ball is buried in calf length wet grass. Takes me 3 shots to get out of it. I score a 10. I don't remember how the last 7 holes went before I had to get to work.

I played yesterday at my club with the guys.  I had been struggling with iron shots lately, most notably wedges so my scores haven't been all that great.  Well, I figured out what I was doing wrong, and my score came back to normal... 82.  I had 3 doubles on the front and 5 bogeys and a birdie on the back.  If I had a double whiskey on the front, I probably would have done better, but I'm happy to get back to my handicap.

So, after the round I head over to our only golf store in town and was talking to the guys that run it.  The owner used to play many years ago on the Canadian Tour, and one of his employees played on our community college golf team a couple of years ago.  Every Tuesday they have a game with two other guys, usually at a different course than mine, but this week they played at my club.  It's a short course, only 6600y from the tips (I play from 6100y).  My best score on this course was a month ago at 75.  The store owner shoots 63 from the tips, and he rarely plays there.

Take that 63 with a big grain of salt, Ken. You don't know how many 5-6 ft putts he gave himself, and even if it was legitimate, I doubt he shoots 9 under on a regular basis.

No, he was playing a big money game with the other guys.  I don't think they gave him anything. He is a +4 index.  The course they normally play is 7000y and rated 73.8/131.  He's usually under par there too.

Today my club had a shotgun tournament that started at 1pm, so I went over to the course where I learned to play golf 25 years ago.  I was going to walk 18 but I got there just before noon, and their men's club gangsome was going off at noon.  The pro who was my first instructor said I should play in it.  I did. It was a $10 buy-in +$2 for skins that is not mandatory' so I am in for $12 plus the $29 green fee.

The captain of my team was a 19 year old.  I played at that course with his dad and granddad 20 years ago.  The other guys I didn't know at all.  We cleaned up!!  We count 2 scores per hole from the team and we had 3 holes on the front and two on the back where we had 2 birdies.  I have played in that gangsome many times and I have never seen a team have that many double birds.  I shot 79 and only contributed one birdie but had several pars when we needed them to keep the momentum going.  My share of the winnings was $45 so I got free golf!  Might have to go back there next Friday.

7 over playing off 6. Started with 2 bogeys and turned 2 over. Leaked a few shots through the middle of the back 9, really should have scored better. Conditions were great for this time of year in my area.

Today was about 20C down here (just south of Melbourne) Not often I get to wear shorts this time of year.  I think Sydney had record high temperatures for May in the last week.

42-34 for 76 today. The rough is growing in, fescue is up and there are a lot fewer places to miss shots. Front nine was ugly with two doubles and a miracle 4 on a par three after I lost my first tee ball OB long right. Played much better on the back 9 once I got settled in but nonetheless the handicap is going the wrong way. I putted better today than I have in months and should have pulled the trigger on the Odyssey Tank sooner than I did.
