Toura and/or AR Golf thoughts?

Recommended Posts

Has anybody swing these clubs? Can anybody give me any advice concerning them? I'm in the market for a new set of irons and I really love these two brands from what I can see online but it's a little harder to find stuff about them online. Found on vid review of Toura and it seems good. One written of AR and it was positive too. But if there's anyone out there with more info on them I'd.love to hear thoughts! I know there was recently a tester spot for Toura MB irons on here (I signed up wishfully) but I haven't seen anything come.of that yet.

As someone who has indirectly worked with both through the forum I would lean Toura.

I have also played their wedges and really liked them.

Both will be great and offer quality products. Argolf is a fairly premium brand and Toura is as well just on a different spectrum with very simple looking clubs.

I just got done building a set of Toura irons. Link below for my thread on the build.  The irons are clean and if you are right handed have a few more options with irons.

Thank you! I greatly appreciate your response. I was leaning Toura anyway because I like the look better, but I like that I can add length and do loft and lie on Argolf so I wanted some opinions

Send an email to Toura and they can probably work something out for you.

They are a great small company in my opinion.

Ok, I for sure will. I want to go get a fitting but I don't want to buy any clubs from the big manufacturers. Wanna super a smaller company. Byrdie told me they could. I feel like if they can Toura can

Sub70 is another one, altho a little bigger. They do have fittings available.

Tough with the small shop places. Haywood would be another one worth checking out.

I actually wrote a full step by step guide. Check it out. Biggest thing is take alittle time and planning. Read the guide, watch a few video sand it isn't too difficult!

Check out my thread above but it was easier than I thought it would be. Take your time and measure twice/cut once mentality and it wasn't bad.

Oh for sure. I've looked into Haywood and Wishon and Byrdie and Lynx and Ram and Macgregor, Stix, Sub70, Maltby and lots of others. I was hard on Haywood for a bit. Love the looks of their clubs. Inesis was one I was really looking at too for a bit. As of now I'm just really feeling Toura and Argolf 😁

They feel great off the face. I wish they would have had a CB for lefty so I could have mixed the bag, but they do in right handed.

The Toura feel good off the face? I haven't gone back to look at your post yet 😅 gonna read through that though when I get a moments break from my busy opening day for baseball with my kiddo 😂

Bro, I just read through all 5 pages of your build! Your clubs turned out freaking amazing! Not gonna lie though it intimidated me a little about building my own. Swing weight calculator? What is that and how do I use it? Will I screw up putting on the ferrules? Probably. But for sure the Toura clubs look absolutely stellar. I LOVE how well packaged they were and you saying they looked better in person than even on the website has me even more pumped for them. They are definitely #1 on the list for me at the moment. I know it hasn't been too long, but how's the graphic on the face holding up?

SW calculator was easy to use and keeps clubs close to the same weight throughout the bag.

So far the faces have held up great but I also don't have a ton of rounds on them.

They will build them with limited shaft options

I am posting from my phone, so my signature probably won't include the link to my page on the Toura Build and Review thread, but I suggest going to the Forum Review section and finding the 18+ pages of data, questions, and answers from me, @azstu324, @David Leighton Reid, and @JRDuck40.

In short, while the Toura CB irons, which I built in the Pure Raw version on True Temper Dynamic Gold X100 shafts, feel nothing short of amazing. Now, a caveat...if you play in a windy area, as I do, they tend to launch very high and generate a metric ****-ton of spin (like 9,000 RPM from the set PW) on a full swing fairway type shot), so you will give up some distance. If you're also like me and 6'4" / 210-215 and can afford to give up a few yards to gain spin and control, it's not a bad thing when you play courses that are tight with tiny and hard greens.

Thanks for the info! I am 6'3" so we're in a similar boat there.

I don't see that this was suggested but if it already was my apologies.

This is the link to the Toura Golf build and club testing that the 4 of us mentioned by @ctg44 are in the middle of. It's been a really fun project and just a great demonstration of what's possible with these clubs, the build process, and how they have performed so far.

You should have the pop to fire these nicely then, especially if you can get on a launch monitor to dial them in or have access to a fitter who knows what they're doing with swing and shaft weighting. They feel so sweet when you flush them...and go surprisingly far still when you get them a little thin, as long as it's a center or only slightly toey thin hit. More of a thin toe hit will leave it short right consistently, which isn't a bad miss most of the time if you plan around it being your miss.

@Toura Golf did great work with these irons and frankly, being a sucker for rusty clubs, how could I NOT love these things that I built? I mean, I don't hit them AS perfectly as I'd like, but I do hit them pretty well, and they do win the "best-looking clubs on the range" award when most of those guys are playing ugly a** game improvements shovel-looking things, so ya know, they shall stay in the bag for the time being.  😃

Thanks to @ctg44 for mentioning the Toura testing crew.
I took on the CBs for my build. They are a cheat code. I'm not just blowing smoke on that. The center of gravity for these irons is so unbelievably low that even on thin shots, they get up. Center hits launch. Off center, heel / toe hits just go as well.
Also, the completely blank heads are super sexy. If you want to go completely custom, I highly suggest that route. If not, their Toura Signa is very sleek as well.

If you are going to build, they do it right. @Toura Golf sends you tipped and ready to cut shafts, grips and ferrules. Outside of the norm build gear that one should have, they set you up from the get go.... For a quick list of what you will need...

1 - Grip Tape

2 - Vice

3 - Vice Club Grip (to hold shafts in place when installing heads / grips)

4 - Epoxy (I prefer JB Weld)

5 - Grip solvent / lighter fluid

6 - Miter saw / pipe cutter (to trim shafts)

7 - High grit sand paper (to sand off tips of shafts where you are installing the heads)

7.5 - Goobegone (to clean up any sticky messes)

That's pretty much it.

Enjoy the build and have fun with it! Feel free to DM any of us for any questions. Happy to assist. 🙂
