SNELL MTB PRIME 3.0 AND 4.0

Recommended Posts

Has anyone had a chance to put these in play? If so what are your thoughts? I still game the MTB-X yellow and am wondering if I should upgrade to the new MTB Prime 3.0 or 4.0 Yellow or look at switching to the TP5/5X Yellow or PRO V1/V1X Yellow.

According to someone in a different thread, these new Snell balls haven't yet, or have barely started shipping. So possibly nobody has them yet. They do sound like they could be good from the MGS article a couple days ago.

You can order a tester pack consisting of (6) Prime 3.0 balls and (6) of the Prime 4.0 model. However, according to Dean Snell, the arrival of the Prime 4.0 balls may be delayed. Originally, Snell was planning on having all of the new Prime balls available to start shipping today.

I preordered two dozen of the new Snell MTB Prime balls (one dozen each of the 3.0 and the 4.0), but I haven’t received a shipping notification, so I suspect that they have not yet arrived at Snell Golf.

Apparently, the Prime 3.0 and 4.0 balls came in this week as scheduled. I received a shipping notification overnight from Snell Golf, and I am receiving two dozen of the Prime 3.0/Prime 4.0 “Tour Test Packs” tomorrow.

Any reviews yet on 3.0 vs 4.0? I feel like I’m always stuck in the middle and may have to try the tour sampler to test both. I find I favor the best shots with Pro V1x, however always score better with Pro V1. Leads me to think the 3.0 may be the better fit.

I boight a sampler pack. I played all 4 balls yesterday. Get Sum would be a good ball for its intended market. I played for four holes. Was a bit loud off the club. Had a 118 yard shot into wind, hit my PW 125 yd club at 70ish percent but ball flew 135. Too hot for me, I need the ball to go the distance its supposed to.

Prime 2.0. Bought the sampler for this ball. I'd never seen a 2 piece urethane covered ball. Fine off driver, went well. My issue came with it off my sand wedge from fairway. Very clicky off the club and didnt react like a 3 or 4 piece urethane ball.

Prime 3.0. Good ball, worked as expected. Not as good as my Maxfli Blue or Pro V1 (my two normally played balls). Distance near the two, spin was fair, not great (see prime 4). I would play this ball but I wont buy them as I prefer the Maxfli or Pro V1.

Prime 4.0 is, in my opinion, a great, exceptional ball. Distance was as long or longer than my two normally played balls. I out drove a friend I play with often every time with this ball. We normally drive the same, or within 5 yards based on quality of strike. Our average is +/- 240. I was 5-10 yards further each drive with the prime 4.0.

I found the wedge spin better than my two normal balls which are very effective for me. I hit multiple 50-75 yards partial sw/gw shots that stopped with 2' on freshly punched/sanded greens (first day of play on them yesterday).

I liked the sound and feel off all clubs with the 4.0. I generally dont like 4 piece balls (pro v1x or tm tp5 or x) as they get very spinny for me off driver. These were not spinny off the driver.

I will buy these balls and play them.

I loved the 3.0 and the 4.0 so far this year. I personally liked the 4.0 more with my high swing speed. My driver swing speed is about 114. Flies straight off the tee with minimal spin. Checks up good around the greens but does feel pretty from when green side. Hard to beat the bulk pricing. If I had to give a ball comparison I would say a slightly firmer maxfli tour x for the 4.0

I just received my 4.0 balls. I used them for a few holes one day last week, but the heat got to me and had to stop. My distance was very good (sometimes too good). Excellent feel on short game; I had a few shots stop within a foot of the hole. It felt great putting, too.

I'll try to set my net up in the backyard and get some data from my R10. I had been alternating between ProV1 and Vice Pro+, so I can post some comparisons.
