finally able to hit an iron in the air after all these years lol

Recommended Posts

im a 53 year old hispanic male that lives in Southern California. Im an Emergency Medicine doctor that started playing golf in my early 20's. Having played baseball and football most of my life, I picked up the game a little late when compared to my friends. Initially, I did not feel the sport was for me but since most of my friends played, I continued on with it but always felt I would drop the sport at some point which I did for about 3 years while I was in medical school/residency. I never really took the sport seriously which is why I didn't bother with lessons and didn't mind my baseball swing. However, towards the end of my residency program, I picked up the sport again and was a bit more serious about it but did not have the time to put into lessons and practice to get rid of all the bad habits I had in my swing. So instead of putting in the work to obtain a decent swing, I found that I could play a "fun" round using all woods. Thats right 1-21 wood in my bag lol. I know but it worked for what I wanted to get out of golfing which was to hit the ball forward well enough for friends to tolerate me playing with them lol. The problem with this is that I get very embarrassed when there are people other people than my friends playing in my group but even that did not get me to dedicate the time and effort it takes to get a decent swing. I mean, Ive played some really nice courses (ie St Andrews, Carnoustie, Pinehurst #2 and Kapalua to name a few) with these clubs and they allowed me to keep up with my friends. However, they have all becoming markedly better as time went on and now that I do have the time, Ive been dedicating myself to get rid of those bad habits that I developed over the years and try to obtain some sort of swing that will allow me to hit an iron into the air and not continuously ground the club. Ive even put in a practice net in my garage and am building my own simulator. Which leads me to how I came across this website. Basically, I was looking for any types of tips, along with instructions that I have started to take, to help improve my game in any way and I so happened to stumble across this site. I really enjoyed reading the reviews on this site so I figured Id sign up myself and, who knows, maybe one day someone will be reading a review of mine. im a 53 year old hispanic male that lives in Southern California.
