GolfSpy_KFT
It’s time to replace my grips on irons, and I found a grip from Golf Pride that’s a collab style one. Looks to be the Tour Velvet, which I’ve played before and really like. Only issue is they are standard only and I play mids. I know you can add wraps (four) to build them up, but then it makes for a more firm grip. How many of you have done this and is it that noticeable? I currently play MCCs which are a firmer feeling grip IMO anyways. TIA, gang! GolfSpy_APH
My thing is I don't like as much taper in grips so I do a winding wrap that progresses up and makes them a bit bigger but also reduces the taper. I am also sold on the Iomic and Star grips as I have never had grips with that much grip and tackiness.. while still be soft. I used to love the MCC4 but found them more firm over time and so on. Grips are so personal and hard to go wrong with something you simply like the look and feel of. I bought them and threw 5 wraps on them to get to Midsize +1 because they only came in standard sizes. For a feel I would say the grip was a touch firmer, but they were also corded versions of that grip, so they were already firm to begin with. I did the same think with SuperStroke's S-Tech (tour velvet style) in the Blue and Yellow, again not much in it feel wise. Personally, I think getting the circumference and sizing is more important to me than the responsiveness of the grip for soft or hard feel, so I'd say it doesn't really matter, but knowing how particular people can be, I'm sure you'll get a multitude of answers and ideas to that end. I'd assume the draw here is the color, that kind of faux leather old school look? Winn and SuperStroke have it in midsize, but only in a wrap style. GP might be the only game in town and the price isn't bad at $75 for the whole set. jayyarr
getting grips over 4 wraps is a bit more of a pain vs just throwing on midsized. my understanding is its also a slight weight difference since the tape is lighter than more rubber. jbern
You might want to watch this video on using tape to build up a grip to a different size. He proves that using 4 pieces of build up tape does not actually make the grip the same width as a midsize grip (it takes more like 8-12 pieces). It’s best to purchase the correct size grip. cksurfdude 1 Quote WITB (link to detailed post here): Driver: LTDx 9* (ProjectX BlueSmoke Stiff) Fairway metals: 3W TSR2 14.25* (ProjectX BlueSmoke Stiff) | 5W Gen4 0341XF (Mitsubishi Tensei Blue 75 S) Hybrid: 4H Gen4 0317XF (Mitsubishi Tensei Blue 75HY S) Irons: 659 CB 5-AW (Project X Rifle 6.0) Wedges: 286 54* & 58* (KBS Tour 120 S) Putter: DF3 OFFICIAL MEMBER REVIEW HERE ‘24 Ball: pro drip: red & blue | Tour S Pushcart: 4.0 | '23 MGS Clicgear 4.0 Pushcart Tester | Link here
jayyarr
is there really such a thing as a correct size grip though its all about personal feel. i have been using mid sized and at times it does still feel slight too big.
