Any good 3-woods better than old sonar-tec

Anybody think the newer 3-woods are justifiably better than my old ss-03 ?

I kinda missed the last ten years, so I don't know if the tech is worth buying one...

Thanks for thoughts

One of the only fairway woods that I have found, that I feel outperforms any that I have ever hit is the tour edge exotics.

I play an xcg5, and I hit it farther than any other fairway wood i have tried. If you are looking for technology that gives you distance, I would give tour edge exotics a try.

Well, I went to the golfsmith today and hit Em all. My sonar tec was right in the middle. I averaged about 220-230 in the air, and 240-250 total.

I did NOT hit a tour edge though...

Not too worried about distance vs consistency and forgiveness

In my opinion, if it your Sonar-Tec works and performs well on the course then I can't justify spending the money on a new one. But if the distance isn't what you are looking for (goes short compared to driver) then it's time for an upgrade. I can't see myself paying for the latest and greatest because I only hit it a couple times a round or two rounds.

Oh man Sonartec? I had one of these around 2000 maybe? Ditched my great big Bertha for it, and then replaced it with a tri metal maybe? Nope replaced it with a Ping ISI tec 4 wood. That brings back some memories!

I'd be shocked that you didn't see any real benefits out there in shaft technology alone. What are yu playing in it? The old grafalloy polite? Ust lakers shaft? Ei70? YS6?

I hit the stage two, the callaways, the pings, and a few others. Nothing was remarkable, and the old sonar tec was right in the mix.

The shaft is a penley something. Distance was too similar to get excited, I was actually hoping for something special.. It never came...

But, at least I won't spend any money now...

Did you try them all with the stock shafts or did you try any custom shafts? I had penley stealth 80 in my old Sonartec haha

That's what I have!

I wish I would have kept mine too. It was the longest 3 wood I've ever hit.

Ping G430 Driver, 19° Hybrid, Ping Anser 23° Hybrid, Mizuno 923 Hot Metal 6-GW, Ping 54°&58° Glides, Scotty Cameron 5.5

Royal Collection offers the same headshape and type if you're fond of the Sonartec, as they bought them out. Any club is only going to be as good as the fitting, though.

In The Bag
Driver: TaylorMade M2 (2017) w/ Project X T1100 HZRDUS Handcrafted 65x
Strong 3 wood: Taylormade M1 15* w/ ProjectX T1100 HZRDUS handcrafted 75x
3 Hybrid: Adams PRO 18* w/ KBS Tour Hybrid S flex tipped 1/2"
4 Hybrid: Adams PRO 20* (bent to 21*) w/ KBS Tour Hybrid S flex tipped 1/2"
4-AW: TaylorMade P770 w/ Dynamic Gold Tour Issue Black Onyx S400

SW: 56* Scratch Tour Dept(CC grooves) w/ Dynamic Gold Spinner
LW: 60* Scratch Tour Department (CC grooves) w/ Dynamic Gold Spinner
XW: 64* Cally XForged Vintage w/ DG X100 8 iron tiger stepped
Putter: Nike Method Prototype 006 at 34"

Have a ton of back-ups in all categories, but there are always 14 clubs in the bag that differ depending on the course and set-up. Bomb and gouge. Yes, I'm a club gigolo.

The new Callaway X Hot Pro line is the best I've ever hit. Lost no distance from my Tour Edge Exotics CB3 Tour 15* when switching to the X Hot Pro 17*

Feel solid, hot and extremely versatile.

Sonartec looks right and sounds right to me. I find it a bit touchy, needing a bit more attention when used and not flying as high as easily as the old burners they replaced, but their looks and sound appeal to me so I will again make the effort to change. The sonartecs bend the ball more easily in either left or right direction. So much so that I truly need to pay attention to avoid the unintended journey. I think they are truly players clubs and do not know if I am going to be able to play them but am very interested in the try.
