Reviving Dry Cigars

Some of you guys and gals have mentioned in various posts that you have cigars that have dried out over the years, so I figured that I would write a quick tutorial on how to revive those sticks.

I'm going to write two different sets of steps. One will be my preference when dealing with a box of cigars and one will be dealing with single/several sticks.

Boxes

I read an article awhile back about reviving boxes of cigars and the steps just happened to stick in my brain. It is a very simple process, and although they won't be good as new, you will still be able to enjoy them. Whenever one of my family members or friends has a box of dried cigars, I tell them to the following:

Items Needed

  1. Box of Dried Cigars
  2. Plastic Bag
  3. New Sponge
  4. Distilled Water or 50/50 Solution
  5. Patience

Steps

  1. Place the box of cigars in a plastic bag
  2. Grab a sponge soaked in distilled water or 50/50 solution and stick it in the bag
WARNING: DO NOT OVERSOAK THE CIGAR OR IT WILL BURST!
  3. Close the bag almost all of the way, leaving a small amount open to provide airflow into the bag
  4. Rotate the cigars in the box every two or three days, bringing the bottom cigars to the top and moving each other row down
    Total Time: 3-5 weeks

You have to be patient here. It is a slow process, but that is because you do not want a cigar to burst. Those 3-5 weeks will definitely be worth it.

Single Cigars

This happens more to people than anything else. Here is what I prefer to do when I am in this situation.

Items Needed

  1. Dried Cigars
  2. Plastic Container
  3. New Sponge
  4. Distilled Water or 50/50 Solution
  5. Patience

Steps

  1. Place the dried cigars in the plastic container
  2. Completely seal the container and let it sit for 2 days
  3. On the third day, put a piece of a dampened sponge in the container
WARNING: DO NOT OVERSATURATE THE SPONGE OR IT WILL BURST!
  4. Leave one of the corners of the container unsealed to allow for airflow
  5. WAIT
    Total time: 3-4 weeks

Hope this helps!
