  1. Time for a Kingsmill Trip recap! - Part 1: Royal New Kent

    IMG_0472.jpeg

The Terra Forza White got thrown into it big time with our first course of the trip, Royal New Kent, fresh off the plane and drive over to the course.  Don't worry though, it's only one of the hardest courses in Virginia.  No big deal.

We had a picture perfect day, and while on the warmup range I was feeling pretty good once I got loose.  I felt I was starting the ball well on my line and didn't have too much curvature in either direction with the driver.  I am still fighting a low hook miss, but that is throughout most of the bag right now, not just with the Terra Forza.

So how did it go?  Did I manage to find a fairway? Yes, yes indeed!

According to Arccos I gained 1.8 strokes on my driving and it was the +2.1 for accuracy that really caught my attention.  the -1.0 on a penalty shot actually was not from a driver off the tee either, so the Terra Forza really performed for me this round. My distance was good, averaging 243 yards (with all drives, not just drivers) and a long of 295 which was really nice to see.  Most impressive was the accuracy.  I hit 11/14 fairways on a course I've never played before, with a lot of trouble in the way fairway bunkers, mounts, and undulations to move your ball around.  I was in a great groove off the tee all round.  Of all my drives with the driver and Terra Forza I hit one to the right, which went about 284 as I was trying to reach a par 4.  I settled about pin high down a hill on the right side of the green, so absolutely nothing that I would complain about given the risk/reward of the shot I tried.

Lastly, We can see I used the driver 7 times in the round and I would say 5 would be A rated.  My first drive of the day I caught high on the face, but still went straight down the middle of the fairway, and my last just wasn't the best move as I was getting a little tired.

I left this round thrilled with the performance of the Terra Forza.  It felt very stable in my swing.  I'd probably compare it closest to the OG. Ventus Blue I have in my 5-wood, but the handle does feel a fit firmer.  Not knowing the flex rating, or much beyond the general bend profile has my mind trying to figure out this Terra Forza White, but I was excited to see what could come of 4 more rounds while we were down in Virginia at the Kingsmill resort.  More to come soon as I recap the rest of the trip in my next update!

Good luck to the chosen!  I'm really curious about the difference in this versus the previous model and not so much the difference between this and other brands.

We have one tester who was using the non-velocore Ventus, but none that currently game the OG Blue Velocore.  It's possible that they have some experience with it, but I wouldn't expect major changes from the winning formula they had.  Like the TR line, it was more of a tweak than a remodel.  It seems this evolution of the Ventus Blue with Velocore+ should play close to the OG blue with better feel.

I don't think Fujikura would want to stray too far from a performance standpoint.  And I fully expect a red and black Velocore+ to follow in the future as they build the lineup out.

  3. Love seeing these AI-Smoke driver's out on the course.  I'm having a hard time knowing the white Terra Forza shaft would compliment the Ai-Smoke color scheme really well... and that TD Max coming out seems to slot in nicely where my Epic Max LS would be...  I might just have to go find one to try out!

Keep it up testers.  Looking forward to seeing some more stuff from you all!

Really cool to see what the stats actually mean -- I saw the numbers but had no idea what the abbreviations meant.

Interesting that you jumped from mostly Orange up to the White+ -- that makes me wonder, where does the Black fit in? I assume similar Load Factor to White?

That was my first session with the plates, my swing was less than ideal that time, and it was more just to do a test run.  I wanted to share that one because it showed what I was feeling, with a lack of rotation and probably not hitting my usual speeds and form.

I'll have to prepare some screen shots of my actual fitting too, probably when I share some of my first range/course results too.

Will do. I kind of thought it may be more of a mental thing but was curious if people were seeing enough discrepancy or differences to maybe suggest Stack Speed and Driver eSpeed data isn't very accurate or reliable.

For me it's certainly more if a "potential" speed than an absolute thing.  There has to be calculations involved considering we don't swing our actual driver during the training, but mine does not seem outrageous or unattainable.

My current Stack Speed is 105, Driver eSpeed is 113 and I think my on course average actual driver speed is typically like 103ish

It's fairly typical to see a difference in the two once you start to factor actually hitting a ball in the equation.  It takes a concentrated effort to get that on-course speed closer to the Stack speeds given the actual skill part required to hit the ball in play.

Next time you are hitting a bucket of balls make an effort to go all out on some after your warm without worrying about contact and see if you pick up some speed.

Another solid round from the Array F-2 over 9 holes last night.  No three putts and I made two over 20 feet; a 30 footer for birdie and a 20 footer to save double bogey (don't ask).

love to see that sort of performance!

Seems like you've made some adjustments, or are getting used to the F-2.  Anything you are doing differently, or is it just having time with the putter? (sorry if you mentioned this and I missed it).

Great question!  Stats last night were in the same ballpark as my gamer putter.  I'll have a detailed breakdown in another week or so after some additional testing when I start to write up my final review.

One thing I know for certain; the Array F-2 is a beautiful putter.

I would have to agree, they did a really good job with the shaping of the putters.

How do you think the dual finish looks in real life?  Notice any differences under direct sunlight?

Definitely missing more short with the F-2.  Even on the putts that I have been making I've noticed that they are barely rolling.

The white hot insert typically has the speed of a foot or two of rollout past the hole.  Could just be that I'm not used to the different feel of the F-2 and things will get better with more usage.

I wonder if the firmer feel is making you feel like your hitting it harder than you are?  Just spit balling, because I'm no swing coach! haha

Played in a scramble today with my gamer.  The one thing that I haven't fallen in love yet with the Array is distance control.  The milled face doesn't not have the same soft and responsive feel as my White Hot insert, and I just felt much more comfortable on long lag putts using my gamer.

Next round is schedule for Thursday but I hope to get a few indoor sessions in before then.

I find that really interesting.  I've always been the exact opposite, feeling much better with my distance control with a milled face versus and insert which starts to feel mushy to me.  Odyssey knows what they're doing with the White Hot though, and the recent versions have felt much better to me on that front.

Do you feel like you're missing more long or short while dialing in the control?

  11. I haven't been out on the course yet, but I have some long stretches of carpet in the house that I've been rolling a lot of putts on.

I've found the Mezz.1 max to be just as good on lag putts as my Evnroll was.  It did take a few days of practice to get used to the feeling of no torque, which seems to be a rather common occurrence.  I'd say stick with it a bit longer and focus on those during practice.  If it's not working after that you could pretty easily trade it for something else.
