  2. Norm ( @Golf2Much ) - thanks for making all this so clear and easy to follow.

L.A.B. Boys: we win both matches and The MB's will have their hands full (which is the first time they've ever been described that way).  Let's get it done 🙂

@BKervin and team - we're coming for you and, while gentlemanly, prepared to be handed a Loss (on a really nice platter, and with a whole bunch of "I'm so so rry"s 😉 )

    Ok here's a random question..

My dad's been playing the KE4 MAX set that I built him last year. They've been a great set paired with the Maltby pro shafts. He's 73 and roughly 20 hdcp so I feel like this set is very suiting for his abilities. He's actually a fairly consistent ball striker though and can hang with me from the longer tees. It's his mental game that really holds him back. He doesn't have much sense for course management and can get a little hot tempered under pressure and then unravel pretty quickly. Funny how the tables have turned from when I was a tempered teen and he used to tell me to cool it.

Well yesterday we played and he had accidentally left his 8 iron home. I let him use my TS4 7i. He flushed a beautiful shot that ended up on the green and he was over the moon. It was a shot shape and ball flight that he hadn't been used to with his irons. Throughout the round he kept grabbing different clubs from my set and his intrigue continued to grow. Then he proceeded to say.. "so how soon can you build me a set of these?".

Well as much as I wanted to tell him that these clubs might not be for him.. I continued to watch him have some fantastic success with my clubs and just enjoying them more than his MAX's. I'm also having a hard time getting over making him a set of TS4's when the MAX is still such a great set that is nearly new.

After the round I then showed him the TS3's as an option and thought maybe those would be the better choice being more forgiving than my clubs, but while still being a step in that direction.

I guess what I'm asking is if anybody has tried all 3 to compare? Would I be better going TS3 instead? Or should I appease the old man and build him some TS4's? OR.. are the MAX still as good as he needs? I also thought about a combo set but he really hit the 5i well from my set and didn't have any intimidation. Another factor is that my shafts are KBS S taper lite 110's (S flex). So roughly 35g heavier per club. Maybe he just needs heavier shafts to help feel the club? I was thinking some S-Taper lite 105's since he liked mine so much. I just don't want him getting burnt out before the rounds over.

Sorry if that was long winded. I'm just kind of at a loss with what to do.

I don't really have any advice here, I just love that this is the conversation you're having with your dad. Color me jealous 🙂

I will say that after putting the Caley irons into play, and LOVING the turf interaction and seeing that distance is effectively the same compared to my GI Sim Max, I'm MORE interested in the TS3's than less. The top-line is maybe even a little thicker than the Caley's, but what I know about the TS3's makes me think those would be a better fit for me than the TS4's (especially because the lofts are different and would need to be bent to do a mixed set).

My question: how is the turf interaction with the TS4'S, and did your dad find any issues there? The thing that has STUNNED me with the Caley's is the turf interaction is AWESOME, especially coming from larger-soled GI irons. If he likes it, maybe a split set (TS3/4) with the Score irons cut to Reg +?

    Maybe? 🙂

I know the Caley irons are more in the TS1 mold, but... The considerably thinner sole suits my game SO well, I'm kind of in love 🙂

Everybody knows you never go FULL spin around the greens…

    image.gif.d3461c6b6456723672dbeda5b526211e.gif

Unfortunately, it's the same stroke I was using previously that was working quite well - the only thing that's changed is the sheer amount of spin. I'm not mad at it, I just have to get out and got those shots before the round to get a sense of what the greens are doing. Unfortunately, the practice greens were JUST punched and sanded and weren't available pre-round. Oh well. 😜

  5. Date 09/15/2023
    Course Name Knollwood Country Club
    Gross Score 87
    Course Handicap 12
    Gross Strokes over/under par 15
    Net Score to Par 3
    Net Score 75
    Net Birdies or better 3
    Longest Drive 278
VCT Match Play Designate as Week 2 Match Score

This just feels like a wasted opportunity. Could not make a putt today to save my life (or help out my match-play partner - sorry, buddy). Missed every putt low - speed was pretty good, just couldn't trust that it would break that much and then, it broke that much. Sigh. Oh, I also jammed in a 3-ft putt for par that hit the back of the cup and bounced out for bogey. That felt great.

One of these days, I'm going to figure it all out and then...look out. Lol.

On the plus side, the Caley's are absolute money on the course, and the Indi wedges have presented me with the problem of spinning TOO much around the green - I got so used to the ball releasing quite a bit with my older wedges, that when these things check up immediately I'm leaving myself 12 feet for par - not ideal.

Today was absolutely incredible. Had some really incredible holes that I played today and parts of my game that are finally getting ironed out. Notable mentions first and foremost:

    1. Swing adjustment from hitting too much off the toe.
    2. TSR 3 driver is an absolute rocket for me. BY FAR THE BEST DRIVER I HAVE EVER PLAYED (See my longest drive as an example ;)).
    3. Played with the Srixon Z (Zed) Star Diamond golf ball as I am currently testing it. Pulled out my inner Brooks for sure.
    4. Putter did fantastic.

I really noticed some wonderful changes thanks to the swing, but one thing that is universal that I can give as advice to everyone who reads this is to make sure you talk through your shots. I tried to do that as much as possible and on the shots I did, I had wonderful shots into the green or putts that I made.

The biggest notable thing was my eagle on hole 6 on the "Back Nine." I hit a fantastic drive 330 yards, 170 yards into the green, I pulled 9 iron and stuffed it to 10 feet pin high. Made the putt and got me the big bird. However, two holes later I triple bogey thanks to an OB and some horrible short game.

I could keep going but suffice it to say today was one of the best rounds I have played in a long time!! 😃

*P.S. - If anyone is wondering why I played the same 9 twice. We had a lot of rain over the past two days and the super said we could not play the traditional 18 so I played the 9-hole side of Snowflake Municipal.

Amazing round! Congrats on the big bird!!!

Just a heads up that you entered in your score as a 72 with a course handicap of 34 😉 I think that might not be totally correct, lol.  I mean...right? That would be crazy!

  9. I'm playing Friday, and the prep-work has already begun between @Syks7 and myself- with half our opponents' scores already submitted (Damn you @Golf2Much and all your net-pars!), we've got a pretty clear picture of what it will take to at least keep up with them.  Should be pretty exciting, as my card matches up pretty well with Norm's, stroke-wise.  Looks like it may come down to the wire (and his net-birdie on 18 didn't do us any favors 😉 )

Remember Steph Curry at American Century Championship - hole in one?

I also made a hole in one on the same hole.

And that, folks, is where the similarity between Steph Curry and I ends.

I didn’t even run down the fairway! It was however with my two sons and husband as we were on a trip to celebrate my husband’s retirement. It was during Covid so all we could was golf!

Can I just call you Steph? 😉 That's AWESOME!

  11. This was @TG8's score from week 1 - Per discussion with @GolfSpy TCB, he received no strokes on this particular course (Pine Ridge Golf Course (Belle, Missouri)).  I added the "Net" info below, but please feel free to double-check it.

Also, fwiw, I believe he did post this in Week 22's thread, but it may not have been entered as a score within the thread (I believe it gets locked anyway).  Let me know if you need anything else on this front.

    Taylore Updated Score Card.JPG

All that being said, for week 2, we've got Myself teaming up with @TG8, and @EasyPutter and @ZMendle10 wreaking havoc as our 4B team (assuming the numbers are the same as last week).  I'll try my best not to forget who the pairings are, lol.

There is a small possibility that TG might be out for the week (messed up his back last week), and if that's the case, is there a list of alternates that I can pick from?  As we're a L.A.B. centric team, I've got my eyes on someone in particular, but won't name names in case that's non-kosher 🙂

Okay, so some fun life lessons learned in this round (that I was lucky enough to play with @Syks7 !) :

    1. Playing in 100 degree sun with no shade is ... a challenge.

    2. Deciding to WALK in 100 degree sun with no shade while pushing your bag is ... a BAD choice.

    3. It doesn't matter how much water/gatorade I drink, walking and pushing a bag in 100 degree heat with no shade = I almost die.

    4. "Almost die" is a bit of an exaggeration, but I legit have not felt that level of exhaustion in almost 20 years, and that was after a cardio boxing class that I was WAY too fat for, lol, and the instructor kept coming over to "encourage" me to take some water/vomit breaks.

    5. Even with all the above, I shot an 87, which indicates to me that I'm way closer than I think at the ever elusive "breaking 80" thing.

Was hoping to put up a bunch of net birdies to aid in the Ryder Cup for my team, but ultimately will go with last week's card (also an 87, interestingly), as this week was mostly just a slog to get through the 18th.

Fun Fact: If you're VERY dehydrated, eat a couple of large pickles - the sodium content is crazy high, and you'll feel better almost immediately.  I'm gonna start bringing a giant jar of pickles in the cooler pocket of my Jones bag, lol.
