I did an LM session a year ago putting my G30 in its current setup v. several other driver/shaft combos - the longest drives that I hit were with am M1 - but it only beat my best with the G30 by 4 yards - the average drive was identical and I was more accurate and consistent with the G30.

 

It's a most wanted driver for sure!

This is interesting. I haven't tried the G but got the G30 last season when it went on sale. My last driver was a K15 which I liked the sound/feel much better than the G30.

I was just comparing the g and g30. K15 may be better feeling, but I don't have enough experience to say.

Got to take it out today. I'm a big fan. The shaft really makes this bad boy. It's a Tour-AD BB (Blue Bullet). I hadn't taken it to the range yet so I'm still getting the feel BUT an easy swing produces a long ball with a lot of run. The G30 head has the forgiveness I've been needing because my swing doesn't give much margin for error. Overall, I can feel that there's much less spin on any given shot than I had with my 915D3.

 

On our #1 handicap hole I blasted a "bullet" that almost hit the group in front of me as they were chipping onto the green. One of the smoothest feeling shots I've ever hit.

 

 

Still need to get more swings in but I'm definitely happy thus far.

I'd settle for 230 to 240 semi close to the middle.

 

So I probably read it and don't recall, but what about this makes it better/longer for you than your G30?

I'm starting to think Hartman gets a referral bonus lol. How much better than the G30 is the G400? Seems like the G30 is still the standard of this line that the others are "just as good as" but newer.

 

 

 

Update on mine: Still finding tons of fairways and am now launching it further because I can tee it up high and really go after it with confidence that I'll find the short stuff. The game is so much easier from the fairway!

I WISH I got a bonus....but I do like when people find a club that benefits them and with as goofy a swing as I have, I feel like it should benefit lots of folks.

 

So why is it better than the G30? First, it sounds 100000x better. PING built a sound lab to make that happen. Second it flies higher and has a more penetrating ball flight. Next, the feel off of the face of the club feels so much more solid, and less harsh. Of course this is all just in my opinion

 

I don't know how much better as I haven't compared them side by side...but if you do have the ability to compare them, I have a feeling you may be surprised by the results....and I'd love to see them if that happens!

The sound is definitely worth if it it's demonstrably better. In my research, the reviews are littered with complaints about the acoustics of the G line.

 

My personal experience is that it only sounds harsh if you hit it off center. Anything solid almost sounds like nothing at all. Just a muted POW (oxymoron).

 

 

But yes, those off center hits will hurt your ears as much as your ego. (will probably still find the fairway though)

It will be a fun experiment and doing it with experts popping in shafts etc. will make it even more special.  I'll be trying other brands of course to get the full affect.

I don't know for sound - could care less really.

 

I've enjoyed my G30. I played with a guy who was gaming the G400 yesterday. He was hitting it beautifully. Unfortunately his specs are too different from me be for me to have tried it.
