2018 Official Forum Member Review - Bridgestone Tour B XW-1 Wedges

Nice stage 2. I know the feeling of gaming 6 wedges to compare then taking the old ones out to game and test the new ones. It isn't easy to do but it is fun to do.

Right. Its super fun and a great problem to have.

It's odd that for every club you add over 14 the golf bag seems to get exponentially heavier lol. I already struggle getting it out of the car. I hate to lose golf balls and love finding them. So take any average day and I may lose one ball but find 2-4. So I've easily got 25-35 balls in the bag lol. I always worry about running out but I never seem to eat into brand new sleeves. I've still got two dozen pro v's from 2011 and 2012 from competing in a tourney.

Hey all

My apologies for not having stage 2 posted. I'm hopeful to have it done tomorrow. Was my daughter's birthday weekend and we just had a ton of stuff going on.

Thanks for the patience!

Here's a sneak peek of what's to come though (56* and 60* same shot club swap) Not sure if there is any relevancy but this just shows the versatility of both clubs and how they can play to different preferences. Some prefer high loft/low bounce or lower loft/higher bounce. I was always a higher loft/low bounce player until I met this 56/14. I can pretty much pull off any shot between these 2.

This one is my 60* from a very tight fringe lie. I just wanted to show a variation of shots from a really tight lie. You'll see some bump and runs, an open-faced flop, and a proper chip all executed with ease.

Good write up Shanks, I'm glad its not just me that struggles with the partial shots. It makes me feel better knowing the wedge master has the same problem.

Yeah, that 52 is an odd one. Never quite had that issue. The shaft seems to load up a lot on the partials with that club only. Works great on the other 2.

I'm sure with more practice that could become a plus instead of a minus.

Knowing your love for wedges, I've been waiting for this stage two as patiently as a kid on Christmas Eve night. This post has me wanting to go hit and buy new wedges right now. Nice work, Alan!

So you're saying you like them...?

Great review!

I need to seriously consider some of these. Recently I've been struggling with my 60* around the green, especially with tight lies. Perhaps I was reading too fast, but I don't recall you addressing this? Can someone address this please?

Was working on this today actually. Pretty much playing off concrete. They do a fine job. Was backing the 60 up from 20 yards about 6”... just feel the spin.

Yes sir!! I love them, I'm trying to off load my old 58 Hogan's so I can buy the matching irons... forgot to put that in my review...

I'm still torn a little between the p730, cally mb and the Bridgestone Tour B's... is they are Anything like the wedges they are nothing short of amazing!!

I apologize for the lack of video content... my dad who works in the electronics field could not work my iPhone to save his life....

I had what would have been some low checking spinners... but alas, my dad needs new glasses or something.

Everyone did a great job here.

I know Stu's will be top notch as well. He's just saving the beat for last.

So just in case you missed my previous post, I'll be completing my stage 2 this evening. Here's one of the videos that I'll be including that shows a variety of shots from a pretty tight "buzz cut" lie from about 30' out. This is greenside fringe in AZ just before re-seeding so they are cutting the grass extra low. For me, anything more than 3' off the green or playing across multiple breaks, I'm dropping in with a wedge. due to some technical difficulties with my phone and 105* phoenix heat, I wasn't able to include the video where I open-faced 4 shots with the 56* within 5' .. all from this same spot. I've got a couple of other videos I'll be adding under the "sound/feel" section where I'll be hitting full shots from a tight fairway showing different styles of shots in terms of picking, sweeping, and digging (with audio) with all 3 clubs so stay tuned.

Personal opinion disclaimer: I'm in no way trying to peddle the idea that these clubs will be the magic potion to tight lie lob wedge mastery. I'm also in no way claiming to have mastered any part of golf. What I will say is that the inspiration to practice and improve will go through the roof with clubs that you love, and for me, these are them. P.S. Youtube is a wonderful thing! $30 wireless earbuds and a cell phone at the range.. hell at the park or in my back yard. I feel like I'm getting personal lessons from Phil himself. Hinge and hold, lead with the grip, move the club with your body not your arms.. you get the picture

Thanks! I was doing well earlier in the year and I think a lot had to do with the amount of practice I got while doing the Snell review. Recently the struggle has been picking the ball clean on tight lies. I chip balls around my back yard quite a bit, but can't simulate a tight lies very well.

B81 Smith,

the stage 2 review was great.

A great thorough analysis and you seemded to be very level headed in how you scored these in regards to the approach of using the clubs compared to $150 (now $180 CAD) vokeys and replacing them every few years.

great job.

it was a joy to read

Bradley,

great write up.

I love the organization in your write up.

And then fact you are still married after all the testing. Say thanks to your wife for this as your write up was great to read.

I think you did a bang up job of testing for a 27 handicapper.

Kudos
