Baseball Snobbery

My wife showed me something interesting online.

There are four playoff series going on in Major League Baseball.

Average ticket prices for three of them are pretty much the same.

Average ticket prices for Red Sox-Yankees in Boston are TWICE as expensive.

People talk about our region's snobbery all of the time,

and maybe they have a point.

For some inexplicable, perverse reason,

I actually felt proud upon seeing that.

Supply and demand

Absolutely, jlukes.

For better or worse, that's capitalism.

We have the greatest pro football dynasty in history, and despite that, nothing will ever be more important than Red Sox-Yankees.

If our first playoff game had gone up against Patriots-Colts on Thursday instead of starting on Friday, it would have won the local ratings easily.

Red Sox games in April often beat Bruins or Celtics playoff games.

Both teams, Red Sox and Yankees, have so many fans on the road that looking at the uniforms is more reliable than listening to the crowd to identify the home team.

One time my daughter and wife went to a game in Baltimore together and said that it was almost embarrassing.

Not at Yankee or at Fenway, though.  That atmosphere is almost scary. The intensity is palpable.

Game two at Fenway in an hour.

Price vs. Tanaka.

Price is a basket case pitching in the Bronx, but he's at home tonight.

Going up 2-0 in a best of five wouldn't suck.

Time to shut down and migrate to my recliner.

Nitey nite.

Sitting in mine now. I have a Red Sox hat sitting on the back. I was touching the hat last night when JD hit the homer. I know it was all my doing! Hoping for a W tonight.

I was touching myself when he hit that homer. Still going to be tough to beat the Yanks.

Judge has some power. I guess being 6,9 275 helps. He reminds me of the wwf wrestler Kane. And those tickets could sell really for whatever they want Boston and New York stadiums will be sold out. Especially a series like this with these two power house teams. Go yanks!

It's nice to see the Sox and Yanks living up to their rivalry this year. The animosity is always there, but when either team is struggling it's a bit harder to really get into the match up.

Pricing when these two meet gets crazy in the regular season, playoffs are an entirely different animal. I'd be curious to see how high they go if it makes it to game 5.

I love the Yankees-Red Sox match ups already. Add something to play for and it becomes a powder keg. I love October baseball

Well, last night in the Bronx went well.

If I didn't have a dog,

I'd root for an Astros-Brewers World Series with each team in the wrong league.

The cretinous reprobates that run television have put the Red Sox game up against the Patriots game Sunday night..

This is unacceptable.

I'll have to DVR the Pats game.

If the Chiefs win, I'll just erase it.

It the Pats win,  I'll at the very least skim through the recording.

I take nothing for granted with the defending champion Astros.

They're a solid ball club,

and we didn't do much with them during the season.

I think the Sox game starts about an hour earlier,

but Sox playoff games usually take at least four hours while Pats games only take three.

The Astros completely outplayed my Red Sox in every phase of the game last night.

I'm half-tempted to watch Patriots vs. Chiefs instead of the Sox tonight,

especially with the much maligned David Price on the hill,

but I'm still not awake enough to make a major decision like that.

More caffeination  is still required at this point.

Price will either be awesome or be completely awful, no in between. I have trouble watching Price he drives me crazy.
My take is you’ll be watching the Pats game early.

I'd rather be forced to watch the Pats game in the wee small hours of the morning on DVR...

but I'm guessing that you're right, Rick.

7th inning Sawx up 5-4, somehow Price didn’t blow it. Now up to Bullpen to hang in. A couple insurance runs wouldn’t hurt!

We won both games tonight.

Neither one was relaxing, though.

Watched the Sox and peeked in on the Pats.

Now I'll make it a long night and watch the Pats on DVR.

I'll still be in bed before it gets light.

Sawx showed a lot of life. Pitching still problematic now Sale is sick, not good.

We've got an AL Pennant to win tonight.

It's amusing how MLB keeps pretending that the
AL and NL still actually exist.

They haven't for nearly twenty-years, but they still like to use the names.

4 hours, 35 minutes last night, sheesh thought it would never end. Hope tonight Sawx can get ALCS.
“Cowboy” Joe West lives not far from here and bump into him occasionally. Can’t wait to hear his account of the Home run interference play last night.

My only complaint about the length of games is the number of TV commercials between half-innings.

I'm used to watching channels that don't have commercials unless I'm watching the Sox or Pats..

Other than that, I like baseball and I'm not going anywhere anyway,

Anyway, 115 wins so far.

Four more to go.

2004 to now has been a little different for me as a Red Sox fan than 1946-2003.

We couldn't even win jack-s*** with Ted Williams, for cryin' out loud.

Personally, I'd rather play the Dodgers.

The Brewers would have been good against the Astros, because then both teams would have been representing the opposite league

from that in which they started.

As for the Dodgers, they haven't been sufficiently punished for leaving Brooklyn yet.

Yep, 4 to go.  I'd like a few more of those 16-1 games to relieve my stress levels.
