Two years

That's great Rev!  Considering the shaft weight adjustments you noted did you ever think of swapping the shafts instead of going with a full new set?

How long do you think a 'typical' set of irons should last?

When I was getting a full bag fitting a few months ago the fitter mentioned something along the lines of around 5 years before new tech can really make a discernible difference.

I plan to have my g410's for that long.

I was reading the Ping G410 iron test thread this morning and realized I have games the same irons for 2 years!

It’s been a while since I’ve I had set last that long - I think my C100’s stayed in for 2 years. I hated the way those things looked but I played better with them than the C200’s.

In fact when I look at the myriad of irons that I’ve had over the past 12 years (since switching to graphite) one thing stands out. Lighter shaft, better iron fit for me. The irons that I played better with all had lighter shafts (around 65 grams).

Lol...I think Ive had 3 sets in 40 years. I might do some Mizunos soon. I could then say 4 sets in 40 years or 2 sets in 3 years.

Well mine are G30’s which must make them 5 years old - they were used when I bought them after a Titleist ball fitter recommended something with a thicker platform, a bit more lost and lighter shaft than what I was gaming.

When I went for my Ping long game fitting last spring the fitter told me I wasn’t going to find a better fit for my game/swing from any other head/shaft iron combo on the market.

I’d say 5 years at least. It depends a lot on the player and his swing though - at two years with a new cycle you should explore just in case. The issue would be the temptation to buy might out-stripe the actually technological gain.

I look at it more in a number of rounds than years. Been gaming the C300s for a year now so that is 218 Rds and my belief is most good quality irons should go around 750 Rds. No actual data on this just my experience with my last few sets. Only time will tell but I should be good for at least another 2 to 3 yrs...

Then what....
