fixyurdivot
Well, quick on the heels of Phil's history making victory at the PGA Championship, we move onto the Charles Schwab Challenge. They do everything in Texas big... such as this piece of hardware and the royal tartan plaid jacket - a tradition that started in 1952. Another interesting tradition is that the past years champion gets to select two deserving young players to participate in the event. Al Geiberger, Tom Weiskopf, Craig Stadler, Curtis Strange, Jordan Speith and others made their first ever PGA Tour event appearance as a result of these invitations. 1946 marked the start of the event and Ben Hogan was the first winner (he won it 5 times)... pretty amazing history with so many of these tour events. Daniel Berger returns to defend his 2020 win along with a pretty strong cast of players. I was amazed to see Phil listed but would not be surprised if he withdraws. But we're talking Phil here, so who knows? I've got 6 of my FTx squad in and going to stay with Jordan getting back to form after a bit of a lull. Who ya got? GolfSpy_APH
I know this will not likely happen, but I saw some decent play out of Finau last week. DannyDips
I'm always rooting for Spieth and this seems like a good week for him. Another Finau win would be great too... if you count the Puerto Open as a tour win... It will be fun weekend to watch for sure. Interesting that Phil didn't follow up his PGA Championship win with the Senior PGA Championship this weekend. Back-to-back PGAs would have been fun on the resume! I like Spieth in this event, but I won't jinx him. I think it's time for Justin Rose to make a come back. Zalatoris will be a factor. fixyurdivot and DannyDips 2 Quote “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

I wondered that about Phil’s schedule too, I would have thought he would be playing the Senior Majors...plus the Senior PGA is at the same venue as nexts years PGA...would have been a once in a lifetime chance to win both PGA crowns AND prep for the title defense next year. fixyurdivot
It is odd that Phil opted for Schwab over the Senior Major. Maybe Phil isn't connecting with the guys on the Champions Tour and/or simply does not feel they offer the competition he wants? I don't know if he's been asked this question by the media but it would interesting to hear his answer. aerospace_ray and Kenny B 2 Quote G410 Plus, 9 Degree Driver G400 SFT, 16 Degree 3w G400 SFT, 19 Degree 5w ZX5 Irons 4-AW Glide 2.0 56 Degree SW (removed from double secret probation ) ER5v Putter (Official Review) AI-One Milled Seven T CH (Official Review)

I'm thinking he might be playing more PGA Tour events since he's sitting about #16 on the Ryder Cup list. If he can put together a few good tournaments, he might get one of Stricker's captain's picks. He has shown he can hang with the longest hitters, and I think he could be a good fit for a young team. fixyurdivot 1 Quote “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

Might have to do with the Colonial greens being Bent grass (minus the poa ana) like Torrey Pines South course and length that the PGA courses play vs PGATOUR Champions. Total guess on my part but imo I think this was a practice opportunity for Phil for the US Open. fixyurdivot

Kenny B
I wonder what goes through Spieth's mind when he can't hit a fairway and Kokrak hits every one of them. Scotland blue
Did Spieth choke on 18??? I'm not a Spieth fan.....and not a Kokrak fain either, just to me a couple of PGA professionals going at it. I've seen Kokrak play in person and was impressed but still wondered why he hadn't won more on tour. I know that Spieth's lie on his approach on 18 was tough but he was the one that hit it there and then pulled the approach into the pond. He seemed to be missing a gear or two during the round and neither of them were spot on.
