GolfSpy_APH
In this week's set of photos we are showing off Taylormade's Hi-Toe Wedge. We recently had a zoom call with Phillip at MGS Blog about wedges where a whole host of questions were asked and answered. So what better time to show off some sleek maybe polarizing looking wedges from Taylormade. I love these and think they are fantastic looking wedges, even if I don't game them and prefer my Pings, however what do you guys think? Are full face wedges what you like or prefer? What about the high toe? Is this just a fad or have you seen performance benefits from this style of wedge? Gratuitous is right, eye candy I would be comfortable with the hi-toe design as it presents a larger face that would likely improve confidence of hitting the ball on the sweet spot. GolfSpy_BOS
I’m not a big fan of the full face and hi-toe look. But the finish on these wedges is superb. I like the way traditional faces frame the ball. It helps me focus on good contact more than the more friendly looking full face of grooves. the high toe part is less of an issue if it was more of a traditional face. vandyland
I have been intrigued with full face wedges for the past year or so. I went into this season with the intention of buying a full face LW (58*) because I lay that fairly open when I use it. I don't necessarily see the benefit of a hi-toe or full face wedge in the 54* or 50* range since I typically play those fairly square. However, I too didn't love the feel of the TM wedge or the full face RTX but that may have been because I was comparing it to the Ping Glide 4.0 which I ultimately bought (though I had no intention of even trying it but it was there and I hit it and fell in love). Now, months later, the glide is one of my favorite clubs I have ever owned. If they made a full face glide in Black I would buy that right now. The thing that intrigues me about the high toe wedge is the added mass at the top line of the wedge should raise the CG a bit higher... so I "should" get a lower trajectory to assist in flighting my shots. I haven't done a lot of testing with High Toe or Full Face wedges, but as I start looking at replacements this next year due to groove wear on my current set... I plan to see how they may fit in my game... and probably equally important... to my eye. I'm more of a traditionalist on look, so I'm not sure I will have a "love it" reaction looking down at a high toe... at least that has been my initial experience when putting one on the floor in at the store and looking down at it. Of course - performance will help me get over the looks fairly quickly GolfSpy_APH and vandyland 2 Quote Titleist TSR3 9* (A2 setting) Driver - Graphite Design Tour AD UB-5 R1 Titleist TSR2+ 3 Wood - Graphite Design Tour AD UB-5 R1 Srixon ZX 5W Callaway Paradym 4-PW Titleist Vokey SM9 50-08, 54-10 & 58-08 Scotty Cameron Super Select Newport 2.5 2023 Titleist ProV1
Kenny B
I've been playing full-face wedges for 3 years... Callaway '19 PM Grind and love them. They are not for everyone, but they are for me. I play on a course with lots of grass mounds, and I get many lies with ball below my feet. All of those shots are off the toe for me, and I can still get good results. Opening the face a little on bunker shots produces excellent results; I was a lousy bunker player before I bought these. I need to send my 60º to get refinished; as you can see, it's my goto club around the green. If I didn't love these wedges so much, I would probably end up with the Hi-Toe. I love the bronze look.
