So I've read most of the tester's comments so far and I'm curious what you guys think. I have a BigMax iQ+. Spec weight is 14.9 lbs. The Clicgear 4 is listed at 21 lbs. I noticed the difference immediately when I rented one. Has anybody else noticed the weight or do you even care?

I haven't really noticed the weight at all.  When I put both carts on the scale this morning my Caddytek came in at 18.2lbs vs 20.4lbs for the Clicgear.  If anything I would say the Clicgear is a little easier/smoother to push even though it's 2lbs heavier.

I was able to get a morning round in on Saturday that was rainy for holes 2-8. Unfortunately I did not have a golf umbrella with me, but I did have a regular one in the car. The golf umbrella is 2 inches longer and the golf umbrella shade is also larger than the one pictured. The umbrella was a little low; I'm 5'8" and could stand and walk comfortably under it, but always had to duck my head dramatically when looking for my ball. Not a big deal when I'm staying dry. With a golf umbrella, it would've been better. There was a gust of wind that blew the umbrella inside out and it stayed put in the holder and the cart, with the brake on, didn't move an inch.

IMG_82172.jpeg.26bc1da880e98e9099e272e0ddea80c1.jpeg

My two complaints through the whole experience were, one, it did not cover the clubs so the water was running off the umbrella and right into the bag (I put my bag's rain cover on after the photo and that fixed that issue!). The location of the holder seems to prioritize keeping you dry over the clubs, which is fine with me! My second complaint was that I had to remove the umbrella to get any longer clubs out of the bag. It was easy to do, so more of an annoyance than anything. Maybe if I rearranged my bag to have longer clubs on the bottom and short on top it would help, but I don't really think so.

In summary, I would give the umbrella holder high marks. It held the umbrella solidly and I wasn't worried about it blowing anywhere. I stayed more dry than the other guys I was playing with. I never had to ask anyone to hold the umbrella for me while hitting. It definitely improved my golfing in the rain experience over just holding an umbrella with my hand or even riding a powered golf cart. If you are taller than 6 ft, it would probably get uncomfortable to have to bend over constantly, but you would still stay dry.

Making some rapid fire posts here as not everything I wanted to hit on made sense as part of my "official" review but I thought they were areas worth highlighting.

ACCESSORIES

As initial testing comes to a close I have been collecting a list of accessories that would be nice. I did not purchase any during the testing process as I wanted to give the review based off the base product. I didn't want extra products to alter my review one way or the other, especially since the cost of accessories can add up quickly. Below is the list of accessories that made my wish list - not all of these will be purchased but I do have a couple on their way and will add comments to this thread as I test them out. As you can see from the total, it's easy to go crazy with the accessories and the bill to build up quickly as well!

image.png.5f97d7c46a64e91aa54f5950bb7c3645.png

Shoe Brush - Already ordered and on it's way. With most my walking rounds being twilight rounds, the wet grass and turf sticks to the shoes whether spiked or spikeless. Having a brush right on the cart will be great. I am curious as to how well it stays on the cart frame and if it will mark up the frame/paint as I use it.

Cooler Tube/Cup Holder XL - Putting these together because getting both would be redundant. I love a cold brew on the golf course as much as anyone but if I'm walking a round then I am typically focused on hydrating. My most used water bottle technically fits in the current holder but if the walk is bumpy at all then it pops out. So I'm looking for something to hold my water and a variety of sized bottles. Currently leaning towards the cooler tube as it functions as a cup holder while also helping out on hot summer days.

Silicone Bag Strap Extender - This would be a luxury purchase as the current straps work great my main golf bag but sometimes I get bored and want to switch over to my cart bag. The extender would make sure my current and future cart bags would fit.

GPS/Phone Holder - I use 18birdies to keep score and for some gps (I use my shotscope V3 primarily), have the phone holder would be great rather than holding it in my other hand as I push. I do have some concern on phone overheating with this setup.

Pack Bag/Cooler Bag - I ordered a pack bag just to have a bit of extra storage. I haven't found this to be a huge need but it's small and doesn't take up much space, so having the option for extra storage is nice. I could see a primary use of this being for snacks/granola bars and extra drinks. I really debated the cooler bag but the extra bulk and cost had me hesitant for an accessory that may not get a ton of use as a cooler.

I have only used pull carts and the cligear 4.0. I find the weight mostly impacts things like picking up and adjusting position in the back of my car. I tend to overload my golf bag so it's heavy anyways but I haven't noticed a negative impact. It rolls smooth enough that out on the course I don't notice the weight at all with once exception - when making big turns and having to pick the front wheel up off the ground a bit, that bulk can be felt some.

Another rapid fire post here that didn't fit cleanly in my review post.

Set-Up and Tear Down

I think it is very important to preface this with their is a definite learning curve to setting up and tearing down consistently. I have been using it for over a month now and wanted to give some numbers around time. I know others have talked about this but wanted some hard data myself.

Set-Up: It took me 31 seconds to go from collapsed to setup, then another 26 seconds to get my bag place. All total 57 seconds to go from pulling out of the trunk to walking to the clubhouse

Tear Down: It took me 18 seconds to remove the golf bag and place in my car, then another 46 seconds to collapse the cart and put in my car. All total 1 minute and 4 seconds

All things considered very minimal difference from other carts and will vary based on the urgency with which you set-up, how your trunk is loaded, etc. I've said this in other posts but the little bit of extra time is completely worth the ease of use and features that you get with it.

My final review is posted on the first page.  For those of you who want the quick and easy, here are some summary highlights.

  • Aesthetics:  20 out of 20
  • Features:  15 out of 20
  • On the course: 19 out of 20
  • Good, bad, in-between: 16 out of 20
  • Play or trade: 20 out of 20

Final score: 90 out of 100

TL/DR – Clicgear's description of the 4.0 cart is "Focused on durability and function, our awarding winning 3-wheel cart stands above the rest."  I would mostly agree with that statement.  The 4.0 is a great push cart that has the ability to become best in class based on the number of add-ons available.  Out of the box it is extremely sturdy and ready to hit the course with little to no adjustment needed.  Set-up and take-down could be a little easier, but once you get the hang of it you’ll be off and running in under a minute each time.  I have no major reservations about this cart.

I completely agree that the little bit of extra time (if any) is worth it. I golfed 9 holes with three other members of the push cart mafia on Saturday morning and we were all kind of getting our carts/bags set up at the same time. With the chatting and bickering that was going on, everyone got their carts and bags put together at about the same time. I happened to be the only one that did not have to adjust my bag a single time during the round. 😁

include a $20-$30 voucher with each new cart to get those one or two accessories that you just can’t live without.

This would be a nice touch; at the very least a 15-20 percent off coupon to let the consumer know that even if it didn't come with what you might want there are options available to add it.

Just received my angled umbrella holder, XL cup holder, and umbrella spacer.  The angled umbrella holder should come standard with every cart purchase.  It gives you 3+ inches of clearance and is much more functional than the simple tube that comes standard.  I'm excited to try it out on the course (less so about the rain).

thumbnail_IMG_3953.jpg.eeb38152f2fbefb982a12948d94432a5.jpg

The XL cup holder seems much more functional as well.  It has no problems holding my 34oz water bottle or a Yeti style can cooler that were both too big for the standard cup holder.

I'm not sure about the umbrella spacer yet.  It's just a 1" knob that doesn't seem to help all that much now that I also have the angled umbrella holder.  I guess the extra 1" will be nice?

Seems like the angled umbrella holder is a must have if you’re using the umbrella at all. I said in my review that the umbrella holder tube did the job, and it did, but it wasn’t very functional. And with the review of umbrellas that MGS just put out, it sounds like I should be using an umbrella to block UV and keep me a bit cooler. I might have to order that accessory.

I almost made the same joke in my post.  Nicely done.

Angled umbrella holder should be included with the push cart.  It seems like a big upgrade over the standard.

Not sure how I feel about the XL cupholder after one time out.  It only fits wide based bottles/cans, so if you use a normal bottle of water or 12oz can it will slip and possibly fall out.  Maybe I'll start bringing both cup holders with me?

Another successful round out with the Clicgear 4.0 today.  I ended up using the regular cupholder for a 24oz Propel water as the XL holder was a little too big for it.

Getting ready for winter golf? Part way through my round I noticed something on my back left wheel. Went to brush it off and realized it’s half a tee that has lodged itself in the wheel. Still rolls great, just adds a little click sound when rolling in pavement. Does give me some concern on the long term durability of the dense foam wheels.

Might be doing one of my first customizations and ordering some new wheels in the nearish future

Those look very similar to the wheels on the Nitron. Never realized they were so soft.

I have also noted the durability of the wheels may be a long term concern. I think you could easily get multiple seasons out of the wheels (and more if you don't play super often) but I walk the course 4-5 times a week most of the year and I think the wheels will need to be replaced every other year or so due to regular wear on the wheels. BUT, the cool color options on the wheels and availability of them on the site make it no big deal to me!

If I had purchased the clicgear then I may be more upset about it but getting it as part of this testing, definitely helps to soften the blow.

Wow, I wouldn’t have expected a tee to be able to puncture the wheels. At a course I play semi regularly the cart paths are gravel and I’ve never had a stone stuck in the wheels, but maybe it’s just a matter of time. Thanks for the info @dback and @J7Hawkins  and I guess now I’ll be on the lookout for tees.
My only complaint with the wheels is that is seemed like the first 10-15 rounds the grass would just fly off the wheels and basically keep themselves clean. Now the grass is getting caked on and I’m having to clean them after every round to not have a trunk full of grass. I don’t know if something has changed with the wheels because of sun or if the grass is just more wet than it was during the testing period.

It was probably just a flukey thing, but definitely has me keeping a closer eye on the how long they will last.

Usually my walking rounds are a twilight round, so not much mown grass but pretty dewey by the end. Grass clippings stick but usually once I go over some cart path or gravel the grass comes off. However, I have noticed that goose poop sticks to them very well😅

  • GolfSpy_APH changed the title to ClicGear 4.0 Cart - 2023 Forum Review
  • 2 weeks later...

The clicgear 4.0 is still working great for me and opening and closing the cart has now become second nature. Especially since I'm not flip flopping back and forth between pushcarts.

Anyway, I discovered something mildly interesting. The umbrella holder thread is a standard 1/4"-20 thread, which is very common for a multitude of accessories. In a previous life, I was a photographer and I have a boatload of 1/4"-20 adapters and accessories for camera equipment. I was able to mount my tripod ballhead directly to the cart with a little adapter and it works great for my phone mount and as a camera mount.

I was able to get two 18 hole walking rounds in back to back days this week and I enjoyed it thoroughly! The Clicgear 4.0 pushcart is still rock solid for me, but I did have my first lost drink incident. The cart was loaded with a large water bottle in the basket, a Corona in the cup holder, my phone and other golf accessories in the compartment. I parked it on a hill with the front wheel directly up the hill (that was the mistake). I put the brake on and pulled my 6 iron out of the bag. As I was walking towards the tee box, the front wheel came off the ground and it started to roll down the hill. The top heavy handle hit the ground and the cup holder rotated to nicely pour my freshly opened corona onto the wonderfully mowed green grass.
Lesson learned. I will now park it sideways on all hills.

I had a chance this week to get out and walk a round with my Clicgear cart and just felt really happy to have it. I’ve now walked probably 30 rounds with it and aside from some visible wear that makes it look just a bit less “clean” than when I first got it, it has held up really well! I’ve realigned the front wheel once (this summer when I was playing 4/5 times a week) but other than that I’ve done no maintenance on it other than a wipe down every other use or so! I would HIGHLY recommend this cart to anyone in the market this fall or early next spring.

  • 4 weeks later...

Golf season has pretty much come to a close here in West Michigan. Hoping to sneak one more round of walking in this year if my work schedule allows it but after this week nothing but 30s after this weekend. Had to run some final thoughts now that I put pretty close to a full season of use into the clicgrear.

First some quick (and probably not quite exact) stats and thoughts.

  • Around 30 rounds walked, 20ish of them just 9 holes
  • Most the course I'm walking it seems like cart fees are $10ish for 9, $15ish for 18 (though some are higher). Doing some quick math, saved at least $350 on cart fees. Now I had an old crappy pull cart that I used before but the clicgear got me walking even more rounds because it was so much better to use.
    • If having a nice push cart is your biggest reason for not walking and you golf a decent amount, it would come pretty close to paying itself off in a single season. If you don't golf as often or already walk some, then it probably takes 2-3 seasons to pay for itself
  • Even if it takes 2-3 seasons, I don't see any reason why it won't hold up well for this and well beyond. I've walked a lot of munis with beat up cart paths and less than 100% conditions and everything but the wheels are still pristine. Almost no paint chips or scratchs, bag straps haven't stretched or worn, push handle grip is great.
  • Depending on course conditions I could see the wheels really not lasting more than 3 years but they could prove me wrong (I do have one wheel where a tee lodged and I haven't pulled it out yet, hasn't impacted performance)
  • Of the parts I imagine wear first costs aren't crazy for replacement. I will be bummed to have to put out the money to replace the wheels eventually but still cheaper than buying ag used cart on marketplace
    • Wheel Kit $60
    • Handle Bar Foam $15
    • Trim Kit (bag straps part of this) $30

Final thoughts after a season of use: It has found a permanent spot in my car, right next to my golf bag (I know, I know MGS says don't keep your equipment in the car but hey you never know when a chance to sneak 9 in is going to pop up). When golfing solo, I don't even consider riding, the cart has made walking rounds that much more enjoyable. I've even talked my buddies into throwing some walking rounds into the rotation so I can break it out and save a few bucks.

I'll leave you with a quote that speaks for itself from a guy at my local course that just bought another brand of push cart. Gave mine a test and said "Damn, should have gone with the clicgear"

@dbackI like the end of year recap!

Since starting the Test on this pushcart, I've golfed 39 rounds. 10 rounds were on a powered cart (6 - 18 hole rounds and 4 - 9 hole rounds). That means I've have 29 rounds with the pushcart (7 - 18 hole rounds and 22 - 9 hole rounds).

Average score per 9 holes on a powered cart: +7.55

Average score per 9 holes on a pushcart: +5.81

I've always figured my scores were better when walking, but I've never calculated it out before.

I did have my best 18 hole round of the year on a gas cart (+5, 77), but I also had my worst 18 hole round of the year on a gas cart (+22, 94). My best 18 hole round with the pushcart was a +7, 78 (also had a +8 78) and my worst 18 hole round with the pushcart was a +17, 89.

There you have it, if you want to shoot 1.74 strokes better on average per 9 holes, get this pushcart. 😆

I don't have the 4.0, but 3.5+ (I think). It is my second Clicgear and the previous one I only didn't keep due to moving. I find these are built like a tank and even when being a little less gentle with them they just seem to work. Do all of you as testers feel the 4.0 has carried this trend over?

Feels like these will work for as long as you want to keep them. I do know someone who broke part of the brake, but that was their own doing and stupidity.

I definitely think the durability is top notch! Some other testers indicated they would need to buy new wheel kits from worn out wheels before the cart itself breaks! This thing is a tank!
