4.0 held up well for 18 holes tonight.  No issues other than pinching my fingers in the parking lot trying to get it opened up.  I'll get into that more in a different post, but I miss the pull and play aspect of the Caddytek.

I tried a @GolfSpy MPR hill test and it held up well.  I did manage to knock over a tee marker below our tees, but overall the cart rolled straight and true.

Cup Holder Test:

My daughter was very excited for me to take photos of small objects for this cup holder test. She got her doll house all cleaned out so I could take photos in it. So here I am, taking photos for a golf pushcart review, in a doll house. Enjoy!

In summary, every size beverage I would usually have on-course fit in the standard supplied cup holder, except the Yeti 20 oz travel coffee Rambler. Below is a photo of everything I tried:

Clicgear4-IMG_0600.jpg.0694173cc7b6c3f6bc72e4e539f87356.jpg

The seltzer size cans and the tall skinny plastic ICE drinks fit the easiest and best. They didn't require any of the plastic "fingers" of the holder to expand.

Clicgear4-IMG_0601.jpg.a7527bd5cceafac5cbba1fa859b79de0.jpg

I wasn't sure the 16 oz BodyArmor style bottles would fit easily, but it seemed to be no problem!

Clicgear4-IMG_0604.jpg.6eaa0c442d50a4fc1fb35c2889417028.jpg

I even got the courage to try the Yeti stainless can koozie and it did fit an hold nicely, but it was NOT a quick process. I would not go ANY larger than this. I also think after the plastic is in the sun for a while, the fingers will break if using a beverage or beverage holder this size.

Clicgear4-IMG_0606.jpg.3423b4af96ae3570ad660e398524200f.jpg

The only thing that would not work in the holder of the items I tried was the Yeti 20 oz travel coffee mug with handle. The bottom fit just fine, but it would quickly rattle out of the holder.

Clicgear4-IMG_0607.jpg.b4a5640b7172ad8512729d35b6c4ac87.jpg

I didn't think I was going to say this when I first saw the cup holder, but overall I'm satisfied with the supplied cup holder. I anticipated recommending the XL cup holder for everyone, but I think the standard size will fit my personal needs just fine and I can find a different coffee mug (maybe I can put coffee in the red 20 oz Camelbak and keep a different water bottle in the bag). Unless you're hooked on a bottle that won't fit, give the standard cup holder a proper shot.

Nice aim @Bucky CC!! It's been rainy and nasty here since I've gotten the cart, but I'm hoping to get it on the golf course soon!

Congrats guys and I look forward to this one!  I've been a walker for several years and I would have been all over an opportunity to test one of these beauties however not in the cards for me.

Went for an X-ray yesterday and set up for an MRI on the 20th.  Lots of inflammation and pain put this ole boy on a riding cart. I can live through you testers for the remainder of this year.

Wow! I am just impressed you're still getting out to golf at all! Good luck with the recovery!

If you check the reviews on Clicgear's website for the "Plus" (which is actually the normal size), you'll find that they're (ahem) less than congratulatory. (I'm not quite sure how, as I scroll through the reviews, they average out to the 4-star rating at the top of the page.)

So I had a few mins to kill while waiting for my coffee to brew so I did some quick math - it actually has a 3.1 rating. Looks like they very generously rounded up...

Two quick updates:

For the first time, I experimented today with putting my most-used coffee travel mug (Michigan State Police Chaplains!) in the stock cupholder.

20230617_115347.jpg

This was just in my driveway, but my initial impressions are positive. The cup is quite large, and even when I filled it full of water, it was stable, not tipping over in the cupholder. I still may seek to open this up just a little bit with heat, but not much. I also might take a dremel tool or some fine grit sandpaper to the edges of it; there are some sharp ridges.

My second contribution today has to do with cart alignment. As I've mentioned in a couple of posts, my cart has a consistent tendency to pull slightly to the right; the "downhill release" video demonstrated that to an extreme.

For those who don't know: the front wheel on the Clicgear 4.0 is fixed. There are three-wheel carts in which the front wheel pivots freely; this is not one of them. For that reason, then, aligning the front wheel is important if you don't want to be constantly fighting your cart on the course.

My review here is mixed. I was able to get the cart aligned, and I trust the alignment mechanism, because it seems well-engineered to be stable once set. But take a look at this picture:

20230617_120042~2.jpg

In order to adjust the alignment, you need a flat screwdriver, a Phillips screwdriver, and a 3/4" wrench or socket. I'm not an engineer, but I don't get why, even granting that a four-bolt system is ideal, that they need to be three different kinds of bolts.

For my part, after checking the online instructions for alignment, I had to go a bit beyond them. If I turned the flat bolt all the way to the "left" side, the cart retained its slight right pull. I ended up fully removing the nut (which allows the entire wheel to come off) and both Phillips bolts, and then centered the adjustment (flat) bolt. I then re-set the wheel attachment, put back in the two Phillips bolts and then the wheel.

At that point, she rolled straight and true, and now I should have room on either side of the adjustment bolt to tidy up the alignment in the future.

So I'd give the cupholder (for now) an A- or so, and the alignment system a B+.

How does everyone feel about the bag straps so far?  Clicgear uses very long and thick silicone straps that have a notch system similar to a belt.  There are loops to tuck the straps in when not in use to make storage a bit easier considering how far they stick out.  I've heard the straps don't stretch quite far enough for full size cart bags, but I have no issues with my TaylorMade flextech stand bag.

bagstraps.jpg.04b37b64074e4937708b86fb86b55d24.jpgIMG_3862.jpg.f3c88890b71445852b2e05ac1a213540.jpg

How the straps should look when folded down.  Yeah, I'm probably going to be too lazy to keep doing this every time.  Looks nice now though!

thumbnail_IMG_3902.jpg.a2fa7a01cf8994d3918362e3deb017a2.jpg

My 5 year old Caddytek uses a bungie cord attachment system.  It works fairly well, but the cords are starting to fray a bit due to wear and tear.  It's definitely faster to strap a bag in than the Clicgear since you just loop the hook on to the other side.

IMG_3870.jpg.3b19c40e3fbe1da4265ff506c4f7b5a7.jpgIMG_3871.jpg.f4cb260c0fa635baa9a1d1c902b9250d.jpg

My first inclination was to give this round to the Caddytek since the bungie style stretches a lot more and is faster to attach via the hook and loop method, but after a few rounds of on course testing I have to give the win to the Clicgear.  Being able to adjust the tightness to a more snug fit virtually eliminated the bag twisting throughout the round.  Through three rounds I have yet to have my bag move on the Clicgear, even when navigating some pretty severe side hills.

I should also mention the top saddle is fairly adjustable if you want to change how your bag sits in the cart.  I haven't had to mess with it too much but additional adjustability options are always appreciated.  First pic is with the saddle all the way up.  Second is all the way low.  I set mine at the lowest setting right away and haven't moved it since.

I’m really curious to see how the cords hold up on the Nitron cart I’m testing out. I wondered what the life span would be and it sounds like 5-6 years with a lot of use might be the benchmark.

How the straps should look when folded down.  Yeah, I'm probably going to be too lazy to keep doing this every time.  Looks nice now though!

For those keeping score at home I have the Clicgear up 2-0 on my old Caddytek so far.

So far, I’m loving them. Much better hold than the velcro straps from my BagBoy. I have not taken it to the course yet, but even taking it to the range and over to my garden I can tell it’s going to be a better hold. I’m not a huge fan of putting the straps in the holder clip every time I fold the cart.

Alright, here we go! I know I said I would post yesterday but got busy trying to track down a new utility iron to replace my broken Cobra Bio Cell hybrid. Anyway, I’m going to put my thoughts out there after playing 7-8 rounds with the cart over the last few weeks.

Compactness

IMG_0450.jpeg.926bc8d76c906f4867a30c3a737c08a0.jpeg
I am VERY happy with the compactness of the Clicgear 4.0 when folded up. Just yesterday, I picked up a friend and he put his cart in front of mine (pictured above) and his clubs comfortably to the left of my bag and it all fit very well! I am excited that we can now easily fit our clubs in the back of the car with our carts without having to move things around like a giant game of Tetris! The only thing I will say it that it does have a tendency to unfold while in the storage position but other than that I could not be happier with the compactness of the cart. 9.5/10

Set-up

The set up process was challenging at first to figure out but after playing 7-8 rounds it is now pretty simple. It helps that the “tear-down” process is the same but in reverse so you learn the process pretty quickly. Hopefully the video above shows the process and simplicity well.
set up grade: 10/10

Functionality

This cart on the course is unbeatable and I mean it  I was concerned about the 3 wheel set up coming from a 4 wheel Caddytek. BUT, I honestly think this very is just as stable, if no more stable. The course I play on regularly is very angulated and I have TRIED to get it to be unstable or tip over and it won’t. Part of that is because of the large wheels, but I think the back two wheels having a slight inward tilt to them keeps it on balance as well.IMG_0459.jpeg.5638b43b6000d128173927cd3ec64e71.jpeg

The cart rolls well through the fairway and rough and the brake works VERY WELL On grass. I feel confident putting the brake on with the car on a hill, which is new for me with push carts.
The strap system, with its adjustability to change the angle of the top strap to best for your bag and your style is incredible. I very much so prefer the rubber straps over the CaddyTek elastic straps that wore out easily over time.

As I previously mentioned, another element I evaluated was the storage. The best part is that it DOES fit my phone! The storage compartment holds 3 balls, my phone, my rangefinder cleaning cloth, and usually a snack for the course. Below that compartment is a net basket that I have been using as a cup holder for my 32oz hydro flask as it does not fit in the normal cup holder. IMG_0461.jpeg.533430a59098d27b3b1de16e337e8aca.jpeg
The scorecard holder is very nice as well, there’s nothing too special about it but it feels good quality and works well. No complaints!IMG_0462.jpeg.fdf52730254e65614075894935ecd694.jpeg

total functionality score: 9/10

Care

This cart looks fantastic on the course, and I’m super happy with the silver color on the frame. I pushed the cart through the few and fresh grass clippings multiple times and found that it doesn’t pick up a lot of debris in the tires and wheels. Even in wet conditions, the tires stayed pretty clean and picked up limited amounts of mud. This very is easy to care for and keep clean, doing most of the work itself.
One thing I’ve noted is that the inward angle of the back two wheels may cause the tired to wear quicker than other carts. BUT, they do sell replacement wheels and tires on the Clicgear site and even have some other colors. These ($22) orange wheels will end up on my cart before too long!

I'm coming from a cart that uses the polyester/backpack strap style with plastic clips and can say the rubber straps are much more forgiving and easier to use. I don't love clipping them in place each time I fold up, I suppose I don't have to do that but it would increase wear and tear, along with the risk of snagging and breaking. I also have cart bag that I used during the summer because I'm either riding 18 with a group or walking a twilight round for 95% of summer rounds. I haven't tested it yet but my guess is that it should fit that bag still, plenty of wiggle room holding my carry bag in place.

I was admiring @J7Hawkins review and getting jealous that you've been able to take the cart to the course 7-8 times! That's awesome and great review!

I haven't been able to get out yet (my only chances so far have been when it was rainy), but I should be able to give this cart a proper on-course test a couple of times this week/weekend. Until then, here's a photo of the cart with my bag on it. I enjoy the black/white scheme.

Oh man that white and black combo looks great! I live a mile from our club so it’s pretty easy for me to play a last afternoon/early evening round most everyday. My typical week includes at least 5 rounds of golf (most of which I walk). Plus, I’m playing in a tournament Friday and Monday so I need all the practice I can get before then!

I agree with you, I think the cart bag would fit. Since the top strap system can move around you may have to adjust a little bit my guess would be that the cart bag would fit securely.

I will be able to use the push cart Friday since it’s just an MGA (Men’s Golf Association) event at my local club but Monday I’ll have to use a cart since it’s a larger event! I’ll keep you all posted on how they go.

For my 3rd test I wanted to get into the storage of each cart.  I know most people aren't buying a push cart exclusively for the storage options, but having a little extra  can make a big difference on a rainy day or if you need to store some extra water bottles for hot weather.  First up, the Clicgear 4.0.

The only storage you really get is the upper console along with a fairly deep net just below it.  The console works perfectly to store a few extra balls along with my phone (and a Crown Royal bag for scratch protection).  I usually keep my rangefinder in the net.  It's a bit deep, but does the job well enough.

The only thing I worry about here is will my phone overheat in the all black console on hot sunny days?  So far I haven't had warm enough weather to truly test it out, but this was an issue in the past with the Caddytek.  Overall the storage is adequate.

The Caddytek EZ also has console storage and an upper net.  What really pushes it past the Clicgear is a lower compartment along with an insulated zipper pouch near the wheels.  It's great having that lower storage for rain gear, water bottles, or even snacks out on the course.  I do find myself missing this on the Clicgear.

Clicgear does sell both a mesh storage bag and cooler bag (though it doesn't look like you could use both at the same time), but both are extra money and are currently sold out on their website.

Clear winner for me in the storage test is the Caddytek EZ cart.  It comes with more storage right out of the gate and doesn't force you to spend additional money on top of the already pricey cart.

Nice call on that.

Clicgear seems to give you a bare-bones cart and asks you to accessorize to your heart's content vs other carts I've had that don't really make accessories and come with most things already in place.

IMHO the accessories from CG are pretty expensive

It is a bit frustrating that the carts came with no accessories (other than the umbrella holder and small cup holder). Not only that, nearly all are out of stock in their site and I haven’t had any luck finding them elsewhere. At this point, I may look into finding a cooler bag or mesh storage bag that I can modify to fit the 4.0.

On course first impressions post coming soon but I did have to test the “runaway cart” situation like others. Pretty steep hill and made sure to go for a wide spot in case it didn’t go well! Rolled smooth and favored pulling right. Left the driver partially pulled out to see how much bounce there was and it was surprisingly steady. Although, with how well it rolled I’m hopeful I don’t get an accidental runaway bc it had some speed even through the thick grass! Get it on cart path or a burnt out fairway, and that thing could roll forever!

On Course Set-Up

Getting the hang of it, its a bit awkward still but the process is quick. Probably takes a minute or two longer to get fully set-up compared to my old bag but the time and energy it saves me on the course is completely worth that. My first two times setting it up, I noticed my bag was rotating a little bit, nothing tightening up the straps couldn't fix. With the rubber/stretchy straps, it makes sense to make sure it is plenty tight to hold in place. I do love the convenience and simplicity of using these rubber straps and they feel high quality.

On Course Function

It has been an absolute game changer going from a 2-wheel pull cart (that I often pushed rather than pulled anyways). It rolls incredibly smooth and handles multiple terrains well. I have not noticed a huge difference between fairway and rough, obviously the thicker/taller the grass is the more resistance but the big wheels do seem to counteract it a bit. So far I have walked the same course in very dry conditions and the afternoon after a rainstorm and I did not notice much difference in performance other than maybe a touch of sliding on angled parts of the course when wet. As much as the bigger wheels help consistency, the material doesn't have the most grip or grooves for that extra traction.

One of my biggest questions was what will be the difference going up/down hills with this. Going uphill is always more work, but even with being bulky this cart does not require that much extra energy to push up hill. One of my favorite local courses has a huge hill that runs through close to half the holes on course, so this is a huge advantage to the cart. For the steep inclines the bigger handle is nice for putting two hands on it and pushing which gives me major flashbacks to push-mowing my parents yard as a teenager but that's to be expected, hills are hills.

When going downhill, make sure you keep a hand on. Especially when going down dried out fairways or cart paths, it can start to pick up some speed. However, when going downhill and holding onto it, I never felt like I was having to restrain it or that it was pulling me. I tested a few different things with hills and I will probably do another post just around how it handles undulating terrain, there is one course specifically I want to test it on before that.

Something I did not expect but has been a HUGE quality of life improvement is the angle and height of the bag are perfect to grab a club out as I'm walking up to the ball still. Especially if I'm trying to hustle through a round or someone let's me play through, this is really convenient and gives a nice flow to transition from walking to setting up for my shot.

Final Thoughts/On Course Rating after a couple weeks of using

On Course Rating - 4.5 out of 5 stars. This could change but first impression is that it has made walking a round of golf much more enjoyable and conserved energy, all-in-all this has probably saved me a couple strokes on my twilight rounds - less fatigue and cart frustration leads to a better swing and few mental errors.

After multiple rounds I have found that my energy level is higher after both 9 and 18 holes and find myself thinking "I could easily play another 9 or 18." Even went out on a 90+ degree day and noticed my energy level was higher and my shirt was a little less damp. Overall, really impressed with the ease of use (from a convenience and energy standpoint) and how it has fit right into the flow of walking a round of golf and allowing me to feel fresh on the back 9.

Aesthetics Rating - 5 out of 5 stars. It's a push cart, so its all about functionality but they have put it all in a great looking design. It's bigger than other carts but has a sleek look to it still. My eye is always drawn to a three-wheel set-up vs a four-wheel set-up, so I have absolutely zero complaints from an aesthetic point of view.

Kind of a negative day for the Clicgear 4.0 today.

  • My phone went into overheating auto shutdown mode being in the all black center console.  85° day so not ridiculous hot.
  • Cart tipped over twice on the course.  First time was pushing down a smallish sloped hill (maybe 10 feet).  Second time was when I was hitching a ride in a regular cart and pulling my push cart behind.  The top strap came undone on a bump and the whole thing went sideways.
  • And finally I noticed the beverage holder cannot be placed on the lower left side (looking down from behind) as it will hit the wheel when you fold the Clicgear up.

I'm still enjoying the push cart, but today was not the best day for it.
